PAS: Petron’s appointment reminds Malaysia of its nepotistic past

(The Star) – The recent appointment of Petron as the fuel provider for government-owned vehicles harkens back to the time when nepotism was rampant in the previous administration, says PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

“It only reminds Malaysians of nepotism and the Pakatan Harapan government should not repeat this because Petron is connected to his (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s) son.

Tuan Ibrahim questioned if notions of anti-nepotism by Pakatan were merely political rhetoric.

He also questioned how many shares Mirzan owned in Petron.

On Thursday (Aug 30), a letter of appointment addressed to Petron went viral on social media, with many questioning and pointing out that Dr Mahathir’s son, Mirzan, is a director in Petron Corporation.

Mirzan, a director of the Filipino-based company since 2010, is reportedly a shareholder.

However, the Finance Ministry in a statement on Thursday (Aug 30), clarified that Petron was not the sole petrol and diesel supplier for federal government vehicles, with Petronas and Shell remaining as suppliers as well.
