Kapar MP apologises to Dr M over alleged plot against Anwar
Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid says his claim was not true and that he now understands the transition of power between Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim.
(FMT) – Kapar MP Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid has apologised for his claim of an alleged plot to stop PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim from becoming the next prime minister.
He said he had apologised to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and sent a letter to him explaining the situation.
“I raised (the issue) until it dragged down Mahathir’s good name.
“The statement was not true,” he said at a press conference here today.
He said Anwar had explained the matter to him, and that he now understood the power transition between the two leaders.
He voiced hope however that there would not be any conspiracy over the Pakatan Harapan consensus to appoint Anwar as the eighth prime minister.
“Outsiders should not attempt to stop this transition.”
He said there seemed to be elements attempting to stop Anwar from becoming the next prime minister after Putrajaya’s adviser Daim Zainuddin was reported as saying it would be foolish to make the PKR leader prime minister as soon as he returns to Parliament.
Daim, who heads the Council of Eminent Persons, had panned the notion of an immediate change in leadership, saying any transition should be mid-term.
Abdullah said after a 40-minute phone conversation with Anwar, he was happy to know that there was no plot against him.
This follows Anwar’s statement yesterday that he had asked Abdullah to correct his claim and that such allegations were baseless.
When asked if he was apologising to avoid disciplinary action, Abdullah said no.
“I believed the matter was correct,” he said, adding however that he would accept any disciplinary measures from PKR’s Complaints, Appeal and Discipline Committee.
The committee’s chairman Syed Husin Ali yesterday censured two PKR members for “going overboard” and “making wild allegations” in campaigning for the party election.
He did not name the duo, but Abdullah was believed to be one of them.
