Pakatan never intended to abolish toll charges

It is bad enough they steal the oil money from Sabah, Sarawak, Terengganu and Kelantan and use the money to develop the West Coast of West Malaysia. Now they want to use the money to allow people from the West Coast of West Malaysia to drive on the highways free of charge as well.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Pakatan Harapan says the government is not going to abolish toll charges because it would cost the government RM400 billion in compensation to the highway concessionaires.

Is this something they just found out? For years we have been saying it is not viable for the government to abolish toll charges because it would cost RM400 billion in compensation. For so long we have been telling Pakatan Harapan it would cost RM400 billion to abolish toll charges and now they turn around and tell us what we have been telling them for so many years.

What is wrong with these Pakatan Harapan people?

Rich Malaysians use the highways free of charge but poor Malaysians will pay for it

Another reason we were opposed to the abolishing of toll charges is because currently only those who use the highways have to pay. Once you abolish toll charges and pay the highway concessionaires RM400 billion in compensation, those who do not use the highway have to pay.

For example, Malaysians in Sabah, Sarawak, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, etc., will be paying for the highway so that Malaysians in Selangor and the Kelang Valley can enjoy driving on the highways free of charge.

It is bad enough they steal the oil money from Sabah, Sarawak, Terengganu and Kelantan and use the money to develop the West Coast of West Malaysia. Now they want to use the money to allow people from the West Coast of West Malaysia to drive on the highways free of charge as well.

On top of that there will be the hundreds of billions they need to spend to maintain the highways. Highways need maintenance and this costs money, which highway users will no longer need to pay. So, who pays? The taxpayers who do not use the highways and the oil money from Sabah, Sarawak, Terengganu and Kelantan will be paying.

Blame Najib Tun Razak when Pakatan cannot deliver its election promises

Why should poor Malaysians pay so that rich Malaysians can drive on the highways free of charge?

Then thousands of staff who are no longer needed will have to be retrenched since the highways are now toll-free. That will increase unemployment and thousands of Malaysians will be out of work and will face hardship.

The Pakatan Harapan government knows it would be a disaster if they abolish toll charges and make all highways toll-free. In fact, they knew that even before GE14 on 9th May 2018. But they promised it anyway just like all those other promises that now cannot be delivered.

To justify not delivering their promises they blame in on the country’s financial status and say these promises would be revisited once the country has paid off its debts.

Malaysia is going bankrupt, says Pakatan Harapan, so Mahathir needs to go begging to Japan

But when will that be? Malaysia has been in debt since before Merdeka and will always be in debts unless the government stops building hospitals, schools, roads and so on. There are only five countries in the world that are debt-free (Macau, British Virgin Islands, Brunei, Liechtenstein and Palao).

Malaysia’s debt is 75% of GDP (even though the government is lying and is telling Malaysians it is 100% of GDP) and at best it can go down to about 50% of GDP. It will never be below that.

The US is 98% of GDP, UK is 313%, France is 213%, Germany is 141%, Holland is 522%, Japan is 74% (the same as Malaysia), Switzerland is 269%, Australia is 126%, Singapore is 453%, Sweden is 177%, etc.

So, even the ‘top’ countries or the more advanced countries than Malaysia are worse-off than Malaysia. Hence it is a stupid excuse to say the government needs to postpone or abandon so many things because of Malaysia’s debts. If you want to wait until Malaysia has no debts then you will have to wait till the end of time.

China’s debt to GDP ratio is only 14% while Japan’s is 74%, the same as Malaysia’s, which is 75%

And another thing, China’s debt to GDP ratio is only 14% while Japan’s is 74% and yet Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad wants to turn his back on China and look towards Japan. If Malaysia’s debt at 75% of GDP is terrible then Japan is also terrible so we should be business partners with China and not Japan.

The trouble is not so much that Mahathir and the Pakatan Harapan government are lying to us and are taking us for a ride. It is that Malaysians, in particular the Chinese, swallow all these lies hook, line and sinker.
