Report: Veteran newsman Kadir appointed as PM’s media adviser

He reportedly received his appointment letter in July.

(FMT) – Veteran newsman A Kadir Jasin has reportedly been appointed as a media and communications adviser in the Prime Minister’s Office.

News portal Malaysiakini said Kadir, who was previously the spokesman for the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP), received his appointment letter last month. An official announcement is expected to be made soon, the report added.

Kadir was editor-in-chief of the New Straits Times Press in the 1980s and 1990s.

The PPBM Supreme Council member resigned from his post as the CEP communications chief in June, following a blog post he had written which was seen as critical of the Malay rulers.

He said his decision was to prevent further confusion among members of the public regarding his role in the CEP.
