Anyone who can prove the yacht was not purchased with stolen money can claim it

Malaysian government need not prove the yacht was purchased with stolen money, the owner must prove it was not

(Sun Daily) – Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has today expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards the Indonesian government, particularly its President Joko Widodo, for returning the US$250 million (RM1 billion) super yacht Equanimity, which purportedly belonged to fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low.

It is learnt that the yacht received its port clearance from the Batam Marine Department at 2.30pm today, indicating that its next port of call is Port Klang.

“I would like to give thanks to the Indonesian government especially to Widodo for being very cooperative with us. They understood our problem well.

“About the yacht, if there are parties with the opinion that the yacht was purchased with valid money and not the money that was stolen from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), they have the right to claim the yacht,” Mahathir said via a video posting on his official Facebook page today.

He posted the video from Fukuoka, Japan, where Mahathir is currently on a working visit to from today until Aug 9.
