Wanita PKR has become ‘yes man’, says PKR veep

Fuziah Salleh says she hopes to change the culture if she wins the Wanita PKR chief post.

(FMT) – Candidate for Wanita PKR chief Fuziah Salleh says she decides to contest the post because the wing has become a “yes man” and dared not question the leadership.

She hoped to change this if elected in the coming party polls.

“Currently, the women can’t question (the leadership) or say no. We shouldn’t be afraid of reprimanding the leaders.

“We must be vocal and not become a ‘yes man’,” the PKR vice-president said at the PKR headquarters here.

The wing is currently led by Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin who will not be defending her post in the coming party elections.

Fuziah, who is also a deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, had previously said she was prepared to let go of a higher post to lead the women’s wing in line with reforms the party had fought for since 20 years ago.

Fuziah, 59, had previously led Wanita PKR from 2000 to 2007.

Fuziah’s challenger, Haniza Talha, meanwhile, denied the women’s wing had become a “yes man”.

Haniza, who is currently the wing’s deputy, said Wanita PKR was among the first to support Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the candidate for prime minister prior to the May 9 polls.

“We were not afraid to state our stand. Does that make us a ‘yes man’?” she asked, after submitting her form to contest the Wanita chief post.
