Wan Azizah to remain DPM regardless of PKR election outcome

(The Star) – Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will remain the Deputy Prime Minister regardless of the outcome of the PKR election, said party secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

“The consensus reached by Pakatan Harapan in its National Convention on Jan 6 was that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would be Prime Minister, Dr Wan Azizah the Deputy Prime Minister, and  that Anwar would assume the Prime Minister’s post later,” said Saifuddin.

“This means that Dr Wan Azizah is holding the DPM post based on the consensus made by Pakatan,” he told reporters after briefing Sabah PKR members on the upcoming party elections at a hotel here on Sunday (July 22).

Saifuddin said should Anwar be voted as PKR president, he would remain in that position without holding any government post.

“Being the president, Anwar does not have the standing to hold any post in the Government. He has to contest to become an MP, but we have yet to reach that stage.

“That is why Dr Wan Azizah will remain as the  Deputy Prime Minister during that time, which is in line with the consensus reached by Pakatan,” he explained.
