My bank account was frozen in the past too, Dr M tells Najib’s daughter

(The Star) – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says the freezing of accounts belonging to former premier Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his family had nothing to do with revenge.

He said the same thing had happened to him previously but he did not complain.

“My friends were not allowed to be acquainted with me, their accounts were also frozen.

“But we didn’t complain,” he said when asked about the issue.

Najib’s daughter Nooryana Najwa had claimed that her personal bank account was frozen after she posted bail for her father.

She wrote on a closed Facebook group “Malaysians for Civil Liberty” that her bank had informed her that they had received instructions to freeze not only her bank account, but also that of her son.

However, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) denied freezing Najib’s grandson’s bank account.

On Thursday, Najib’s son Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin Najib also hit out at the Pakatan Harapan government, saying that that new administration was not any different from that during Dr Mahathir’s previous tenure as prime minister.

He also described the charges against his father as an example of “selective prosecution” and that it all reeked of “vengeance”.

Najib on Wednesday (July 3) claimed trial to three counts of criminal breach of trust and another charge of abuse of power involving RM42 million linked to SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

The High Court set a bail amount of RM1mil and allowed him to pay the first half of RM500,000 on Wednesday, with the balance to be settled by next Monday (July 9).
