‘Why isn’t Kit Siang going after scandals linked to Dr M?’

(NST) – Umno wants to know why DAP party adviser Lim Kit Siang, while defending his son for exposing alleged scandals linked to the previous government, did not want to pursue those allegedly linked to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The party’s strategic communications unit in a statement today said Kit Siang did not even make a move to broach the formation of a royal commission of inquiry into the Memali incident, issues stemming from the foreign exchange controversy in the 1990s, Dr Mahathir’s purported large stash of cash overseas and his children’s wealth.

“It is also ironic that (Kit Siang’s son) Lim Guan Eng’s corruption case is deemed as a ‘non-case’ and a political trap by BN government. Why is the case not being fully investigated like the one involving (former Selangor menteri besar) Dr Khir Toyo?

“Will the case be dropped after they (Pakatan Harapan government) hold power over the judiciary system, following the sacking of the chief justice, federal and appeals court judges and the replacement of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission head, among others?”

The unit also questioned Guan Eng’s role as finance minister.

“Is it not his job to provide suggestions to the cabinet, instead of solely exposing the ‘faults’ of the previous government under the instruction of the prime minister?

“A finance minister should instead work for an effective formula which can revitalise the country’s economy and investors’ confidence.”

The unit cited the loss of Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) investment value in 10 companies which amounted to about RM6 billion.

“With such a loss recorded following the formation of the new government two months ago, is it worthwhile to focus on the scandal behind 1Malaysia Development Bhd?

“What is the effort being put in by Guan Eng and his ministry adviser Tony Pua to see a rebound at the stock market in Bursa Malaysia (which recently) saw the pulling out of foreign capital and the depreciation of the ringgit which has passed RM4 per US$1?”

The unit also questioned the feasibility of the Tabung Harapan fund to repay the country’s debts.

“Economically, can the money donated to the fund be used to repay the government’s debts which it claims to be more than RM1 trillion?”
