Sorry, I am busy with my course in Cambridge

The Nazis used ‘Rebirth’ or ‘Reawakening’ as its slogan for the ‘New Germany’, which included ideas of movement, growth, hope, progress, and youth. The Nazis believed that the people are swayed by irrational hopes, fears, and prejudices.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

I have been receiving a lot of messages from people asking me as to why I have been so quiet the last month or so. One person even asked me today whether I have switched sides.

No, I have not switched sides. I am still supporting PAS as I have been doing so for the last 41 years since 1977 when I moved to Taman Purnama in Kuala Ibai, Kuala Terengganu.

Actually, last year I signed up for a course in Cambridge, which started last month. The course is called ‘Hitler and Nazi Germany’. So, I am busy doing that course. Anyway, I have said what I want to say over the three years of 2015 till Polling Day of 9th May 2018 so what more is there to say? I have said it all and the general election is over, is it not?

Hitler believed mass politics must appeal to and make use of the irrational, such as hope, fear and prejudice

In the first week of the course we learned about Hitler’s early life, how his father physically abused him, and that he was not born with the name Hitler but changed it later in life. We also focused on the aftermath of the First World War, which resulted in the breakup of the Habsburg, Hohenzollern, Romanov and Ottoman Empires (a subject I have talked about many times before).

One of the results of WWI was the increase in state power and a curtailing of civil liberties in Germany. There was also an increase in government control of the economy. The government also used the mass media to launch a program of political propaganda to ‘educate’ the population.

The Nazis used ‘Rebirth’ or ‘Reawakening’ as its slogan for the ‘New Germany’, which included ideas of movement, growth, hope, progress, and youth. The Nazis believed that the people are swayed by irrational hopes, fears, and prejudices.

An entire population was moved by clever propaganda and lies

There was also a blending of ideas from both the right and the left so that nationalism, socialism, capitalism, religionism, etc., could exist side by side. The national identity must be one based on ‘shared blood’ and that Germany is above self.

The carrot-and-the-stick approach was used and if you could not be bribed into cooperating then you would be intimidated into doing so.

Anyway, that is what we learned so far and if you are interested to know more then maybe I can write about it as we go along these next few months. But no politics. Just about what happened 100 years ago back in Nazi Germany under Hitler.
