Intervene in ‘dubious’ KL land sales, Teresa Kok urges Chief Secretary

(Bernama) – Seputeh MP Teresa Kok today urged the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Ali Hamsa, to intervene in the suspected dubious sale of 64 lots of land in Kuala Lumpur.

She said only the Chief Secretary had the authority to issue instructions to the Land Office not to approve any land deals.

“Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) cannot do anything because it has no authority to ensure a review of the land sale; it is better to have direct orders from the Chief Secretary,” she told a press conference after the 11 Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur MPs had a meeting with Kuala Lumpur mayor Tan Sri Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz here.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng had lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on the sale of 64 lots of land involving an area of 171.7 hectares estimated to be worth RM4.28 billion between 2014 and 2018.

Lim and two other Kuala Lumpur MPs also met with Mhd Amin Nordin to obtain a detailed report on the project of the previous government.

The report included the sale of 64 lots of land by DBKL to a foundation where only 30 lots were used to build affordable homes while the rest were for commercial purposes and construction of condominiums.

Lim, at a press conference today, said 10 of the 64 land lots had been identified to be still under the name of the landlord, namely DBKL.

“I was notified by the mayor that if the Chief Secretary issued instructions to the Land Office not to approve any land sale, DBKL will terminate the sale and purchase for the 10 lots of land and we can get back the land,” he said.

Wangsa Maju MP Datin Paduka Tan Yee Kew said she had requested City Hall to provide a list of old and new projects dated seven years ago which had been approved for detailed information about the project including how it was approved and the status of the project.

“The mayor has agreed to consider the request and is willing to give full cooperation regarding the issue,” she said.
