I met with rulers, ministers over 1MDB but got nothing, says MACC chief

(FMT) – Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Mohd Shukri Abdull today claimed he and his chief at the time, Abu Kassim Mohamad, had met with the Council of Rulers to ask for their help to remove Najib Razak from office but to no avail.

“We told them the scandals involving 1MDB were more than just rumours, and that for the good of the country, Najib had to be removed. But our pleas were not entertained,” he said at a press conference at the MACC headquarters today.

Shukri also claimed they had gone to ministers prior to meeting the Council of Rulers for the same objective.

“But only three dared to speak up then: Muhyiddin Yassin, Shafie Apdal and Husni Hanadzlah.”

Shukri said he had been approached by an MP who had tried to pay him to let the matter go.

He did not name the MP but said that he came from the north and was known for the adage “cash is king”.

“Twice, he came to me wanting to bribe me to let the investigation go.

“The second time, I told him he had better leave me alone or I’d arrest him.”
