Shukri Abdull clocks in as new MACC chief, promises tell-all to media tomorrow

(MMO) – Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull made his return to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as its chief commissioner today, clocking in for duty at 10.25am.

Formerly its chief commissioner of operations before retiring in 2016, the 58-year-old told reporters here that he would provide insights on “interesting issues” in a media briefing slated for tomorrow.

“It is going to be a tough one,” he said of his return to the commission.

“But I will brief the media tomorrow on numerous issues, including some of my past experiences,” he added, before rushing off to a meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

Mohd Shukri was named the new MACC chief by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad last week, replacing Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad who had resigned from his position, and returned for duty at the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Mohd Shukri is expected to take up investigations into former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s role over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal.

Najib is scheduled to meet the MACC at its headquarters here tomorrow for officials to record his statement into the alleged sovereign investment fund misappropriation scandal.

Chief Secretary Tan Sri Ali Hamsa later released a statement saying the Yang diPertuan Agong consented to Shukri’s appointment effective May 18 and in accordance with the MACC Act 2009.

He said Sultan Muhammad V also consented to the termination of Dzulkifli’s term effective May 14.
