Daim: ‘Sugar King’ bound for Malaysia next week

(MMO) – Tun Daim Zainuddin said billionaire Robert Kuok will arrive in Malaysia next week to participate directly in the Council of Eminent Persons.

According to media reports, the former finance minister said the magnate, who built his fortune on the sugar trade in Malaysia and earned himself the nickname of “Sugar King”, could provide valuable insight on business and finance here.

Among others, he said Kuok was intimately familiar with commodities, real estate, hotels, and tourism.

Kuok and Daim are both part of the five-man Council that advises Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s administration.

Others in the Council include former Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Petronas chief Tan Sri Hasan Marican and economist Jomo Kwama Sundaram.
