MACC to interview Najib at home Tuesday, says lawyer

(MMO) – Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will meet officials from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at his Taman Duta home here Tuesday, his lawyer said today.

Najib’s lawyer Datuk Harpal Singh Grewal said his client has to make a statement to the MACC investigating the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case.

“They have kindly agreed to come here, and we will see what they want to know,” he told reporters waiting outside Najib’s mansion at Jalan Langgak Duta.

The MACC investigators are expected to arrive late on Tuesday morning, but the lawyer said the meeting can only be confirmed on Monday.

Harpal said no investigator had taken Najib’s statement to date.

The lawyer clarified that Najib’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor is currently not under investigation.

He added that the police have ended their search of Najib’s private residence.

“The police here now have nothing to with the raids. They are here for security and all that.

“As far as we are concerned, the raids are all over,” Harpal said.

He also said it was likely that Najib will be appointing more lawyers, but did not elaborate.

MACC has confirmed that Najib has been served a notice to give a statement in relation to their probe on SRC International, a former unit of sovereign investment fund 1MDB that had been established by the Pekan MP.

A member of a panel that reviewed the MACC’s files on 1MDB said the commission had evidence that Najib received US$10.5 million (RM42.1 million) from SRC.

Najib has denied wrongdoing.

The investigations started barely a week after Najib’s ruling coalition suffered a spectacular loss to the Pakatan Harapan coalition led by his former mentor, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, 92, the first change of government since Malaysia gained independence from Britain in 1957.
