Bruno Manser Fund offers to share evidence of Taib Mahmud’s alleged corruption

(The Star) – The Switzerland-based Bruno Manser Fund (BMF) is willing to share evidence of corrupt practices by Sarawak’s former Chief Minister Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud.

The non-governmental organisation said in a statement on Thursday (May 17) that it is responding to the call of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to show evidence on the corrupt practices of Taib, who is now Sarawak Governor.

“We are happy that Dr Mahathir is willing to look into Taib’s corruption again and are hoping that MACC and the Attorney General’s Chambers will soon be reopening the Taib case”, said BMF executive director Lukas Straumann.

He added that the investigation should focus on the allocation of state lands to Taib family members and on the unexplained wealth the family holds overseas.

In the course of its Stop Timber Corruption campaign, the Bruno Manser Fund has, since 2011, identified over 400 companies in 25 jurisdictions (countries) with links to the Taib family.
