Pardons Board to meet on Anwar’s release tomorrow – Nurul Izzah

(NST) – The Pardons Board committee will meet at 5 pm tomorrow to discuss the application for royal pardon for PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

His daughter Nurul Izzah who is PKR vice-president said she was informed of the 5pm meeting by Anwar’s lawyer, R. Sivarasa.

“5pm is only the beginning of the Pardons Board committee session, it will have consideration time and you have to wait…we are tight with procedure matters,” she told reporters after visiting her father at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital here.

Asked if Anwar would be released tomorrow, Nurul Izzah said: “God willing, tomorrow.”

In 2015, Anwar was sentenced to five years’ jail after the Federal Court upheld his guilty verdict.

On Friday, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V had expressed his willingness to grant an immediate pardon to Anwar.

“It is a full pardon, which means he is not only given pardon but will also be immediately released,” said Dr Mahathir.

Meanwhile, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail declined to elobrate on the matter.

“There has been no progress, I have not seen him (Anwar) yet.

“InsyaAllah (Anwar) will speak tomorrow Happy Ramadan,” she told reporters at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital, today.

It was also reported that PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said a brief talk by Anwar will be held Wednesday night to appreciate his supporters over the years.

“I understand that his supporters have come from all over the country so I believe the PKR Youth wing may organise the right program for party supporters.

“The highlight of his release is that we will arrange a programme to welcome Anwar’s release, at the moment we have planned that he will give a brief talk to address his supporters at Padang Timur Amcorp Mall Petaling Jaya.

“The celebration maybe held either in the evening or at night because Muslims have started Tarawih prayers for fasting the next day,” he said.
