Wave of cyber attacks coming, Nacsa warns Malaysian organisations

(MMO) – All private and government organisations in the country have been advised to tighten their virtual networks to protect against a wave of crippling cyber attacks.

The National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa) said it has detected various attack attempts that would affect their operating systems, web servers and online services.

“Based on our monitoring for the past few days, we noticed significant increment of cyber attacks towards Malaysian organisations both in the government and private sectors.

“The attacks were in the form of web defacement, email phishing and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS),” it said in a statement today.

The cyber attacks could cause information leakage, information loss, service disruption and integrity of information compromised.

Nacsa urged the organisations and individuals to take necessary measures in ensuring they did not fall victim to the attacks.

Among their recommendations, Nacsa said that organisations should update their assets with the latest security patches and updates, this on top of ensuring that their anti-virus and anti-malware signatures were up to date and functioning.

They also advised against opening or clicking on unsolicited mail or links.

As a final measure, it said those who suspected that their virtual credentials have been compromised should reset all usernames and passwords.
