DAP man takes aim at his party’s own anti-Najib ‘propaganda’

(Malaysiakini) – A DAP man has come forth to decry his own party’s efforts in spreading “propaganda” against the government and caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

At a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today, Amran Ahmad Nor – a lifetime DAP member and part of its publicity team – took aim at DAP’s recent videos and posters.

“These (video and posters) are all planned accusations and malicious propaganda by DAP using the name of Pakatan Harapan.

“These are aimed at government leaders and the (caretaker) prime minister… They talk about the him, his wife and many other government leaders.

“To me this is malicious propaganda carried out so they can win elections,” he said.

Amran fingered DAP national publicity secretary Tony Pua and his assistant Yeo Bee Yin as those primarily responsible for crafting the media content, with secretary-general Lim Guan Eng giving the publicity team instructions on occasion.

He claimed to have been ignored by Pua when he previously tried voicing his concerns.

‘Don’t vote for Harapan’

Amran insisted that he no longer wanted to “conspire” with DAP to spread what he deemed as false information.

He also urged Malaysians not to vote for Harapan in GE14.

“As a lifetime DAP member, I ask all Malaysians especially the Malays to not support Harapan, to not vote PKR.

“Because your vote will be a vote for DAP,” he said.

Amran maintained he was not paid for today’s revelations, and said he was ready to face backlash for his actions.

“I know I will be called all sorts of things for doing this, that I makan dedak (received bribes). I have not received any payment to do this,” he said.

When pressed why he was making his revelation four days from polling day on May 9, he replied “now is the best time, the final lap is the most important.”

‘Police must take action’

Amran pointed out that he lodged a report earlier today – which has been sighted by Malaysiakini – urging police to take “immediate action” to put a halt to the party’s propaganda activities.

Amran is the son of late DAP vice president and former Bayan Baru MP Ahmad Nor.

Prior to working with DAP, he was a journalist at Umno-owned daily Utusan Malaysia, and served as deputy secretary-general of the National Union of Journalists.

Amran also previously sued Utusan Malaysia over alleged wrongful dismissal.

He also briefly worked for Lim Guan Eng in 2010, and as a sub-editor at Malaysiakini.

DAP has been contacted for comment.
