Shahrir: ‘Malay tsunami’ a strategy to destroy Malay institutions

Felda chairman Shahrir Abdul Samad accuses the opposition of attacking bodies which have Malay interests.

(Bernama) – Felda chairman Shahrir Abdul Samad says the “Malay tsunami” being bandied about by the opposition is intended to destroy the Malay institutions in the country.

The Johor Bahru incumbent said it was a long-term strategy which had in fact begun after the 2013 general election with an attack on important bodies for the Malays such as Tabung Haji, Tabung Angkatan Tentera and Felda.

“The opposition attacked Tabung Angkatan Tentera, an institution that is also close to the hearts of the Malays as many Malays served in the Armed Forces, (then), attacked Felda, made numerous allegations, saying Felda is bankrupt and so forth.

“They (the opposition) attack bodies which have Malay interests, meaning that the so-called tsunami is not just during the general election but had been planned in a manner to strike and destroy the confidence of the Malays in the existing government by first attacking Malay bodies or institutions,” he told reporters after a walkabout at Larkin Sentral here yesterday.

Shahrir, who is also Johor Bahru Umno division chief, is defending his seat against PKR candidate Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.
