Pakatan has not provided strategy to solve country’s woes: PSM

(The Sun Daily) – Pakatan Harapan has not demonstrated that the alliance has the political will or solutions to effectively govern the country in the long term, said Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s (PSM) sole parliamentarian Dr Michael Xavier Jeyakumar Devaraj.

The Sungai Siput MP said that while principally, PSM agrees with Pakatan that the ruling coalition – Barisan Nasional (BN) needs to go because it has overstayed, the Opposition in itself has yet to provide a refined strategy to show Malaysians that it can provide sustainable solutions to the country’s woes.

There is a glaring absence in providing a sustainable model to address the real issues in the country, which is not just about corruption but about a culture of patronage in the private and public sectors.

There is also no emphasis given to showcasing one’s ideology to the voters, he said in reference to how he felt about BN and Pakatan’s chances in view of the 14th general election.

Speaking after launching a party service centre in Jelutong, Jeyakumar said Pakatan may have compromised too much in its quest for power.

He said in terms of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), it should have been communicated that the federal government had no choice but to impose the GST as it could not raise the corporate tax for fear of losing out on foreign direct investments.

“That is the reason. And why Malaysia cannot hike up the corporate tax is because Thailand, Vietnam or other Asean nations may lower it instead,” he said.
