Vell Paari: Guan Eng must explain relationship with ‘Datuk Seri’ in MACC probe

(The Star) – Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng must explain his relationship with the “Datuk Seri” being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the Penang undersea tunnel project, says Datuk Seri S. Vell Paari (pic).

The MIC treasurer-general said Lim and the DAP have a duty to the Indian community to “explain” their relationship with the suspect.

“Many individuals who are familiar with the suspect have told me that the photo of the Penang Chief Minister with him was taken in the lavish private home of the suspect,” said Vell Paari in a statement on Saturday.

He added that Lim and the DAP must explain “when and why” the Chief Minister had visited the suspect’s house as well as any business dealings with him.

“If the photo was indeed not from the suspect’s house, of which I am certain it was, the Penang CM and DAP is more than welcome to sue me,” said Vell Paari.

The 37-year-old “Datuk Seri” is being investigated for allegedly receiving RM19mil from the main contractor Consortium Zenith Construction (CZS) to help “settle” the MACC’s probe into the RM6.34bil project comprising an undersea tunnel and three main highways in Penang.

It was reported that Lim’s office issued a statement saying that attempts to link the Chief Minister to the Datuk Seri were a “disgusting smear attempt”.
