Johor MCA leaders rubbish Kempas rep’s accusations

(Berita Daily) – Johor MCA leaders have brushed off accusations by Kempas assemblyman Tengku Putra Haron Aminurrashid Tengku Hamid Jumat (pic) that MCA was being racist and was not doing its fair share of work to win support for BN.

“Talk such as that is sheer nonsense. We have been independent for 60 years now. We should all be speaking up as Malaysians, not as Malay, Chinese and Indians,” Tanjung Piai MP Wee Jeck Seng told Berita Daily today.

“We are in the government, so why raise it as a racial issue? We are not the opposition to raise racial issues, and we are helping all Malaysians,” added Wee, who is also Tanjung Piai MCA division chief.

Yesterday Tengku Putra Haron Aminurrashid of Umno urged Prime Minister Najib Razak not to give cabinet positions to MCA leaders who fail to retain seats which were by and large won on the backs of Malay votes.

He also claimed that MCA was being racist in its defence of tycoon Robert Kuok, who has been heavily criticised by Umno leaders for his alleged funding of DAP.

“One thing good has come out of this on the brink of the general election. We finally get to see who is the wolf in the sheepskin among the herd of the BN coalition.

“No one is untouchable in Malaysia, and if MCA makes a fuss over the attacks on Kuok not because of its offensiveness to Malaysians but just because he is a Chinese tycoon, then we are witnessing the racist antics of this party,” he said, as reported by Malaysiakini.

Tengku Putra Haron Aminurrashid also alleged that MCA was not doing work to pull in the support of the Chinese community for BN.

“MCA doesn’t have to worry about statements made by Umno leaders that might hurt the feelings of the Chinese and affect BN’s performance in the coming elections. Instead, they might do better by getting off their backsides and start contributing to the preparations of the BN machinery.

“In Johor, MCA was the only party that didn’t submit their numbers from their groundwork to the state BN for analysis. Instead, they kept on giving positive percentages plucked from the sky without justification,” the Umno leader claimed.

Wee also denied the accusation against Johor MCA.

“That never happened. Do you think we are so stupid not to do our work on the ground?”

Gelang Patah MCA division chief Jason Teoh Sew Hock reflected on his work in his constituency to rebut the Kempas assemblyman’s claim.

“In Gelang Patah we started work since the 13th general election. My team has given its full cooperation to BN. None of my war rooms have been closed down since then,” said Teoh, who is MCA’s candidate for Gelang Patah.

“There is a feel-good factor here. The environment is good from the Chinese and other communities. My work is continuously reported to the menteri besar,” he said, in reference to Johor Menteri Besar Khaled Nordin.

“Anyone can come and audit my work,” Teoh told Berita Daily.
