Najib: Two possible scenarios if Dr M returns as PM

(The Star) – Pakatan Harapan’s choice of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime ministerial candidate and Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as his deputy will result in two possible scenarios, says Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic).

“The Opposition’s choice of candidates shows how fragile its leadership is if left to rule the country because its prime minister candidate is only temporary,” the Prime Minister wrote on his blog on Friday (Feb 23).

Najib said in the first scenario, the former prime minister would break his promise to hand the coveted position to Pakatan de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim once the latter is released from jail.

Najib said this scenario is possible as in 2016, Dr Mahathir said he would never allow a man with poor morals to lead the country and had once said Anwar was too old to lead the country.

If Dr Mahathir breaks his promise, Najib foresees that PKR would revolt against Dr Mahathir to take power.

In the likelihood that Dr Mahathir honours his promise, Najib said the second scenario would lead to the most critical case of nepotism in Malaysia.

He said this is because the country’s prime minister and deputy prime minister would be helmed by a husband and wife team – Anwar and Dr Wan Azizah.

Najib said this would likely lead to the rakyat rebelling against the leadership structure.

“We can predict that if the Opposition wins the upcoming election, it will be busy fighting over the prime minister’s post for two to three years before it can begin work to serve the people,” Najib added.
