Wife of Attorney General lodges police report over RPK article

(NST) – Puan Sri Faridah Begum Abdullah, the wife of Attorney General Tan Sri Apandi Ali, has lodged a police report over an article penned by blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin.

She lodged the report on Tuesday (Feb 13) at the Desa Sri Hartamas police station.

“I am lodging a police report based on an article that Raja Petra Kamarudin wrote on me. Any more than that I can’t say; I am leaving the matter to the police,” she was quoted as saying.

Raja Petra, through the Malaysia Today portal, had written a series of articles in which he had alleged that Apandi was being influenced by outsiders in his decision-making process.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur CID chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Rusdi Mohd Isa said police were investigating the report. He said police did not discount the possibility of recording statements from witnesses if the need arose.

He said the case was also being handled by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit of Bukit Aman under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Meanwhile, Pertubuhan Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) yesterday submitted 40 additional documents to facilitate police investigations into the finances of news portal The Malaysian Insight (TMI).

Faridah’s brother Jahabar Sadiq is TMI’s chief executive officer and editor.

The pressure group president Datuk Azwanddin Hamzah said police took almost two hours to record his statement concerning the matter from 11am yesterday.

He said the case was being handled by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit of Bukit Aman as it involved certain high profile individuals.

“I am satisfied with the commitment shown by the police and they have shown extreme efficiency in handling this case.

“They have assured me that the investigations would be completed soon,” he said after handing over the documents concerning the transfer of about RM3 million into the news portal account to the police.

JMM had on Feb 4 lodged a report alleging the the news portal had received foreign funding to topple the government.
