KUALA LUMPUR: Residents of Bandar Mahkota Cheras have torn down a barricade rebuilt by Grand Saga Sdn Bhd that prevented access into the housing area of some 38,000 residents.

Using mallets, car jacks and steel bars, the residents broke down the foundations of the barricade made of large boulders and forced the stones to the ground.

The boulders were then chained to lorries and dragged away to the side of the underpass of the Cheras-Kajang Highway, which leads into the neighbourhood.

By 7.15pm, the first vehicle had managed to inch its way through the two-lane access road, amidst the cheers and loud blaring of vehicle horns from onlookers and residents alike.

Police and Light Strike Force personnel monitored the crowds, which swelled to a few hundred.

More roars of support ensued later when Selangor CPO Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar, who visited the spot, told the residents that he had advised Grand Saga to stop any construction of barricades in the area.

He said the public would be inconvenienced each time Grand Saga built the barricade. DCP Khalid also urged the Malaysian Highway Authority and the Public Works Department to settle the matter and come up with an amicable solution.

He also urged the elected representative not to incite the residents.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Shakaruddin Che Mood, who was also present, was hoisted up by several residents who lauded his support for their cause.

He also persuaded residents to remove several toppled boulders that were blocking cars going into the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn access road.

Several residents then pooled together RM900 to get the job done, saying that a third of the sum would be for the lorry’s petrol while the rest would be used to buy food.

Earlier, two photographers from Sin Chew Daily and China Press were attacked by two unidentified men, who had threatened to beat them if they did not stop taking pictures.

By 10pm, all boulders had been cleared.

By now, many Malaysians realised that erecting that barrier & forcing residents to drive extra 7km distance & pay toll is "extortion" - a snap polls? Hey, bn is going to lose big. This gov't must go.

To the police who support the people, Hooray to you

I was right to defend your dignity when a group of kids playing cooking and want to cook shit for the police to eat. Now I don't feel like the biggest fool in the world when I defend the police dignity. I feel better now!

I hope the kids whom i spoke to last night will grow up to love the police force.

What if he managed to catch the thugs, shall we hoist him higher?

Fat hopes!

In fact I cannot see the justification for the toll. It was politicians coming to gether to cheat the people. Not just the SAGA toll, the other toll as well.

What did the tol operator do to help improve traffic congestion? No,they just widen the road to build toll booth to collect tolls.

The greatest ripoff of the century.

Brothers & sisters, the co. named "Grand Saga" suggest something fishy. No wonder we have a pile of bad apples hemming the organisation. I strongly believe they are the culprit who hired thugs to beat people up.

Even if the laws may be on your side, resolve the issues with a little charity and fair play to the residents who are all affected by the blockade. Not all matters need to be calculated in ringgit and sen. Win a little, lose a little. Some decent sense and conscience go a long way to earn the respect and credibility which any Institution would need for the long-term success. Not by provoking the anger and antagonism of the rakyat.

We all know cops take orders from their boss but do we want to give credit to their political masters?

Let's give these good cops a little praise and incentive for them to open up their hearts to see that People Power is greater than bad politicians greed!

The Rakyat wins!

The OCPD did not stick his neck out and stand up alone for the people. He obviously got orders from the top that the earlier Police action was not legal and to back down for the time being. If he put his job on the line and stood up for the people when the FRU were beating them, then it would be a different story.

They have done this to quell public anger because they have beaten up unarmed civilians like the thugs they are. We should publish the photos of those 30 thugs and see if anyone can name them. I'm interested to see if they are from any govt. agency, political party, mat rempits, etc. No reason for them to be there defending a public structure unless they have a vested interest or are Pro-Toll!

The people's anger stems from a combination of no confidence in the courts, police (esp. when an ex-cop is on the Board of the company), government; plus a totally ridiculous route that forces people to use the toll. If people had legitimate avenues to resolve grievances, then they may be more ready to accept the umpire's decision. BN governments don't offer this - in fact even if the government or PRDM were conciliatory, people would view this as some sort of tactical maneuver to screw them over another way.

Bravo and well done to the people of BMC. At last, your perseverance paid off. But guys, please refrain from using the "toyol" word. The son is without doubt a useless piece of turd but the father was a decent being.

CPO Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar is absolutely right. The Malaysian Highway Authority and the Public Works Department should have settled the matter and come up with an amicable solution before any construction or road diversion is implemented.

The duty of the police is to ensure that any diversion or construction works will not impeded vehicular movement or worse cause accidents. I am not sure if a permit for road closure had been applied to the traffic police. In fact the police should have issued a summon to the contractor to stop work, as the barriers constitute major hazard and danger to road users. They do not need to be so polite as to advise the contractor to stop any construction of barricades in the area. Perhaps a lawyer can advise on the Traffic Regulation here.

The police are here to implement the law without Fear or Favour. They are not here to do us any favour.

Please make sure that those who assaulted Mr Chang are brought to book. They disgraced the uniform they wear. Nothing more than vigilantes, taking the law into their own hands instead of upholding it. Now who can believe the police when they tell you not to take the law into your own hands?

What Khalid Ibrahim dis is something amat dipujikan.bolehlah dikatakan you did something that makes us feel very proud of you..and Yes!..tangkap semua muka bapok dan bacul tue that was hired by the Khir Toyol spinoff as Grand Saga and put them behind bars. At least there's someone in the state level is prying open day by day to see what Anak Indon Toyol has done to the state of Selangor. Mampuslah kamu Toyol kerana your time is coming, and you can slide off saying I've nothing to do with Grand Saga, but Khalid got his sleeves rolled up, and he's prying everything you got carted off as though you'll not be caught.
