Malaysian blogs didn't lead to opposition votes PDF Print E-mail

(Asia One) - A STUDY of the Internet's influence on the 2008 Malaysian general election found no evidence that those who read blogs and other online political content were inclined to vote for opposition parties.

The study, by four academics from Universiti Teknologi Mara's Communications and Media Studies Faculty, showed that 80 per cent of respondents were aware of blogs, which were popular with the middle class and
below.

"After making the cross matching, we found that there was no strong evidence that supports the notion that the Internet content had moved people to vote for the opposition," Professor Madya Baharuddin Aziz told Bernama.

Instead, the study showed that the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition, which were thrashed at the election, failed to adequately address issues raised online.

The survey of 1,100 voters in four zones - north (28 per cent), south (22 per cent), east coast (19 per cent) and central (31 per cent) - showed that blogs were popular because they discussed issues in a different way from mainstream media.

When ministers and politicians also hop into this phenomenon, they give clout to blogs and online journalism, said Prof Baharuddin.

Among the popular blogs and websites were Malaysiakini, Suara Keadilan, SPR, Harakah Online, Berita Harian Online, Utusan Malaysia Online, Malaysia Today, The Star Online and those of news agencies.

Prof Baharuddin said "digital media warfare" and the preference of the younger generation should be given serious thought, particularly with 1.8 million new voters in the next election in 2012 or 2013.

When you have a reputation of being a cheat, arrogant, cruel etc, it does not matter about blogs etc.
Your time to come to come to your knees will come by divine ordaination - sometimes soon, sometimes not. But it comes eventually.

I hate to say it but the Prof is an idiot! He completely misses the key point that the internet and blogging and reading blogs is an active act. The connection is real and immediate. The Prof thinks its illusory. No wonder BN lost. What a load of rubbish! The academics & govt in S'pore seems to think the blogger threat is very real, indeed. http://ctchoolaw.blogspot.com/

Oh oh, I beg to differ with the finding. Wonder who are these respondents that they interviewed. Under 18yrs or those who dont ever vote in the life time ? I alone for one is definately the culprit here and not to mention my family and friends. Do a better survey next time !

If you can't get news from main stream media, you can get it here.
All can blog, esp BN can blog here too.
But remember, after reading & blogging here,

Professor from UiTM? A race based university? As far as the academic concern, this is the only university in the world using race card criteria to enroll. At one time only one race can study here for free!

Never let anyone tell you that you are too young, too old, too immature, too naive, too stupid, etc. etc. to CHANGE THE WORLD !!

Barisan Najis had to come up with an excuse as to why they lost so much ground in the GE, so they blame the Internet and the blogs & bloggers ! Actually, Barisan Najis has lost all credibility amongst the voters !! It is that simple !!

Let me clarify Professor Madya(PM), is a given title. While Dr ie with PhD, is something you really have to struggle to achieve. In the literati circle this PM is classified as Professor Kangkong. You dont need to have PhD, Papers. What is important you must be good at bodek those people at the top.

So this 'Permanent Headamage Professor' claimed that BLOGGing wasnt the Weapon that defeated BARISAN NASIONAL with shame of loosing 5 States & the Federal Territory...

Allow me to clearify...

A Blogger is just like a MILITIA ( a fighter without formal army training..they are also called 'Freedom Fighter '...coz they dont wear an army camouflage outfit }...they re very brave FIGHTER..'voluntrous Fighter'

They carried arms coz their love ones had been bullied & 'killed'
They mingled around the Kopitaim..warung..gerai...pasar..etc
They ll put into the BLOGs whatever they had spoken to the people
....or what they heard at the 'premises'..they ll channel them thru' the BLOGs

That Professor doesnt understand the ' Militia Warfare tactics'

The Kopitiam & Warung are most Effective weapons that had put Barisan Nasional to shame...the Militia-Bloggers were just a CHANNEL

Barisan Nasional has the whole TV Channels....expensively advertised their Propaganda.... P O N D E R

After reading all the 'expose' and abuse of power hightlighted in blogsphere and if you still vote BN, you are either a dumbo, die hard fan or you have vested interest in BN's continual survival.

The conclusion is as simple as that, Professor Madya Baharuddin Aziz.

Your professorship is memalukan!

100 days after losing 5 States UMNO still sees it as business as usual, not willing to confront themselves as to why they lost the 5 States. They still wouldn't not accept the fact public see them thick as thieves and even the makchik in the Malay heartland has begun to ask "Apa tu C-Empat ?"

And speak of the devil, Kastam DiRaja, please station more personnels at port of entry to welcome Najib and Rosmah. Do take note those baubles in her posession are not costume pieces but the real stuff from The House of Cartier. Bet you she had a fun time terrorising Oxford St having gained access to millions fritted away through *Razak Baginda.
* Mrs.RB, again I'll say it, you are bloody stupid if you believe the lies your husband sells you. Believe me when I say Najib and wife were visiting money your husband help plunder while in London - money that partially should belong to you too. Why should that fat cow(and getting bigger) spend the loot while you fret over your husbands welfare ? BODOH.

I have high distaste for corrupt fat ****s/cunts getting morbidly obese at the expense of public welfare. Yesterday over lunch in Sentul, I came across an Indian boy picking a tiny wing off a pile of discarded bones from the chicken rice seller. Heartbreaking sight my friends, having seen how the urban poor get by.

Most of us still get by, others attempt amazing contortions stretching the ringgit and still many others like the Indian boy, never had anything to begin with BUT all the while we have UMNO fella's taking us all for a ride. How not to get angry when we hear news there is a new AP King in the making - 20 something Dato' getting rich at the expense of our labour.

I'm not too rigid or religious but GOD and the stars above us, please help us get rid of this UMNO menace. Take care all.

Casper

Proffessor ! Ah~... that's a wonderful and influential title.

It reminds me of HongKong, where there's a greedy professor who exposed a China Company selling luncheon pork meat that contain harmful preservatives & tainted with some sort of chemical that may cause cancer. The gigantic company which had been supplying its canned pork to the whole world just went bankrupt after the news break-out and its products rejected by the world. This is how they make money by certifying your products are safe for a hefty fees. Otherwise, face my wrath !

In Malaysia, very often we see these kind of scumbag professors / Professor Madyas being paid by the government to comment (lie) on our Malaysian economic situation, future & prospects. Yes ! For a fee and a datukship, what do you want me to say ? No problem.

Professor B : I am influential, bloggers & blogs are not !

The survey of 1,100 voters in four zones - north (28 per cent), south (22 per cent), east coast (19 per cent) and central (31 per cent)

I am ashamed that a Prof. is behind a study so badly designed. Market Research companies had better be careful about hiring UITM students. Prof, why are you doing this? You are literally turning your students into idiots like yourself!

Your sampling is absurd - if this is not a stratified random sampling-based study, don't publish the report -- malunya!

How can Central represent only 31% of the sample? Did you even check the population breakdown properly, or is it the Department of Statistic's data is wrong?

For the sake of your students, retract the report and make a public apology. You ingat semua orang Malaysia bodoh ke?

Prof Baharuddin? NEVER HEARD OF THE BUGGER...

Must be another cheaply produced Phd...

U know the joke of UTM bumiputra only university? They produce tonnes of crap research papers....

One find day, other PHD students form Denmark and European countries come over to these cheap university hoping to further research their papers... and LO what do they find?

they said, malaysian professors,,, ha ha ha, Doctors on Paper only... ha ha ha ha

why.....?

Because on following up their published thesis, they found that not only their research data are not real but manufactured or artificial, and even their quoted references or bibliography are fictitious.... does not exist..

so all their thesis are worthless pieces.. not even worth considering as fiction....

hence clearly proven here that the study by the Prof mayat bahar.... is only figures he churned out from his laptop..... not actual figures from interviewing the voters on how they vote or whether the young voters voted based on reports from internet..

ha hha ha ha, its proven to me..

the fact that hundreds of thousands attended rallies in KL based on campaign here by RPK was already the power of the blogs....
