Can't survive even on RM3,000 a month PDF Print E-mail

(The Star) - K. Navin, 25, a customer service analyst from Penang working in Petaling Jaya, says it's impossible for anyone to make ends meet even with a RM3,000-monthly salary.

“I usually go back on weekends twice a month, but I think I can only drive back once in three months. And now it seems I will be forced to take buses.”

Father of two Lawrence Rayappen, 40, says he spends most of his RM3,000 salary on food.

The teacher adds that the cost for his transportation is still manageable. He is now cutting down on entertainment and eating out.

Lawyer Ruth Garnet Maran, 26, spends more than half of her RM3,000 salary on food and entertainment every month.

“I am staying with my parents so I get to save on rent. And I plan to reduce my entertainment expenses.”

Lawyer Choo Dee Wei, 26, says he will cut down on his food bill by cutting down on trips to posh restaurants.

Teacher Zakiah Omar, 42, prioritises her spending according to necessity.

“Give priority to the important things,” says Zakiah.

While Rakyat continue to suffer, UMNOputras continue to spend and waste our tax money lavishly. Do you think the BN/UMNO government cares about your plight? The country's economy is at stake in the hands of a stupid PM cum finance minister that failed maths in high school.

Change lifestyle by living in jungle or change government, you decide come GE13!!

UMNOputras who do nothing all day, just laze around, get contracts and jobs as handout, drive posh cars, have big houses, dine in expensive restaurants while we, the hardworking public, without the connections - we are made to suffer!

Looks like Mahsuri's curse has come early for Malaysians....or is it belated.....but with a diffrence.....

The curse is not Mahsuri's .....it is Altantunya's... for blowing her up to bits and that too while she may have been alive........Indiana Jones says the curse can be broken by only one way....by hanging Najib AND Rosmah high........until then God will make certain Malaysians pay....

Not only insufficient take home pay! What about safety net when you retires? If you don't save for old age you are a living dead with little left from EPF to pull you through for the rest of your retirement.
So guys/gals it's time for proactive actions to rid the useless Barisan before all our national treasures & egg nests are depleted by their slimy hands. Our cry for Anwar to move to the fore......

With all the worries abt not making enough, why not search for solutions? It makes more sense to act instead of just gripe/whine abt it.
I'd like to share I read recently from the book entitled: The 5 Lessons A Millionaire Taught Me About Life and Wealth by Richard Paul Evans
Lesson 1: Decide to be wealthy
Lesson 2: Take Responsibility For Your Money
Lesson 3: Keep a portion of everything you earn
Lesson 4: Win in the margins - with extra income & savings
Lesson 5: Give back

Semut,
Yes, there are infact more people falling under this category and a lot more having less than a thousand income . We have the right to blame the govt. As I said many time,we Malaysian should be drawing a good income and having a much more comfortable life. We are a rich nation with so much resources and having good mother nature. Blame it on the govt who squander everything until all the rakyat are left high and dry. In the meantime, we need to seriously control our budget and save whereever we can. Those who have millions in their bank, they dont know what it is like trying to beat day to day needs. But remember, money is not everything. Health and happiness is more important. Remember too,you are not alone. Compare those behind you and not infront of you. They possibly get much less and suffer more. God bless.

Change of govt may not improve our lot but I will risk it just for the joy or thrill of it.

So basically what they want for us Rakyat to do is to just work , work , work, then go home. Full stop. WHY should we cut down on our little perks in life just so that they can steal more from us? While they use our hard earned money to bring their families for free holidays and claim fake entertainment allowance.

If u think this is worse, watch out the economists of the world are predicting a worse scenario. However some remark that asia can lead the way for a better economic perspective. My suggestion is simple. If we rakyaat, can save money by:-
1. not going for holidays and travel less to see our relatives etc.....the mp's and the gov servants ought to do the same...
2. by stopping the children's tuition, or scrimping on textbooks etc...the gov should do the same...in fact if the education in school is good we need not send our children for tuition...so improve the school education..enough talk on this matter....
3. by eating less....they should reduce all allowances for the higher salaried civil servants and mp's as well
4. if we have to stop our renovation plans...gov. should do the same unless the rakyaat necessarily need it,
5. if floating the petrol price is necessary...than the gov. should abolish corruption with every which ever method is demanded by the situation, only have mega projects on the same float method lah (open tender lah....not nego)...etc

I used to earned RM 3800 back in 2005 and I am already barely make it.

Salary RM 3800
EPF/Tax/Sosco RM 600
Petrol RM 300 (my office is in Shah Alam and I stay in Bandar Utama)
Toll RM 60 (RM 40 for 5 working days, RM 20 to travel out to places)
Parking RM 40
Car Service RM 100
Food RM 500 (working days - 20 days in a month, breakfast 5, lunch 8 and dinner 12)
Food RM 200 (weekends)
Car InstallmentRM 700 (I am driving Proton Wira manual 1.3cc)
Parents RM 200
Sister RM 100
Insurance RM 300 (car and medical insurance)

I only left RM 100 for entertainment or maybe RM 300 if I eat less or cook at home.

I stay with parent because I got no more money for rental.
I cannot even buy a house unless I eat 2 meals a day, no entertainment and drive a motorcycle to work.
I cannot get marry because it will take me 4 years (200 every month) to save enough for an average wedding of RM 10000.

Due to poor transportation in the capital of Malaysia, I need to spend RM 1300 which is 34% of my salary on car. (car loan, insurance, maintainance, petrol, toll and parking). If I don't drive, I cannot go to work.

I stay in Bandar Utama and my office is in Shah Alam Glenmarie. NO DIRECT BUS and if really need to take bus. It will take me 3 hrs to get to work for a distance of 15km.

My company is very generous of giving at least 10% increase every year but when GOVERNMENT increase petrol 40% which will leads to everything else to increase minimum 20%.

They just "kill" an average tax payer like myself.

I earned RM 3800 and I dun have wife or children and I cannot even think of marry or have children back in 2005. I cannot imagine what happen to me now in 2008 and in the coming future.

That is why I decided to leave Malaysia for a better future.

change of lifestyle, no need "great" advice from Govt, you have no choice bcs circumstances force you to.
corruption in malaysia have puncture a big hole in our economy, we did not grow the economy with strong fundamentals.

It seems that all BN MPs are overnight millionaires once they are elected even though they have no skill. Just look at Zakaria, Close 1 eye, the MP who pepper spray our old man, teacher turned politician, dentist turned politician, riches unemployed politician and many more. They are not afraid to show off their wealth. It is so clear cut that with their normal MP salary, they can't afford such luxuries. If this is not plain corruption working, I don't know what it is. Do you see them change life style now? No, they travel around in big cars, eat at expensive restaurant and be entertained. Yet the Govt has the cheek to ask the rakyat to do otherwise.

For your info, the starting salary of a graduate in the 80s is around RM1,800 and today the starting salary of a graduate is around RM2,000. So how do we expect all our graduates to survive. Better work overseas as SGD2,000 UK2,000 pounds EUR2,000 or USD2,000 will have a better life style than RM2,000 in Malaysia. We are going to be African state where one loaf of bread will cost us RM10 in a few years time. All of us will be millionaires. BN can claim that they have made the rakyat all millionaires like Indonesia.

If a person can't survive on RM3000 in Klang Valley then we are all up shit creek. What about those production workers earning about RM1500 to RM2000 per month and this is including heavy overtime. Imagine these line workers have to literally work 7 days a week to earn the OT to make RM2k per month, What kind of life is that.. Its a daily struggle for them and the BN under Badawi just made it a lot more shitty. Don't even talk about entertainment etc. I know as I used to work in a factory in management and have to force workers to stop doing OT so that they can rest. Situation is kinda like some 19th century sweatshop. Meanwhile we can see Umnoputras driving around in new Merc and Beemeers and oh, I am also seeing more Porsche Cayenne around. The fuel hike is not even going to bother them, just a minor irritation. So what if increase fuel by 40% after all the waste and leakages? Malaysia Boleh dan Gemilang? I don't think so. Time to change. Our conscience and social justice demands it.

Our Tuans from "Ketuanan Melayu" are paid half what you get for their GREAT civil service job that you and I cry discrimination for!!!

We all, including the Tuans have UMNO and *****Kutty to thank that for. Instead of competing with Singapore, Taiwan and Korea in the last 25 years based on meritocracy and hard work - they preached the NEP drug dependency program, Bumiputraism, Ketuananism, White Elephantism, Corruptionism, Cronyism. If we had competed hard we may still be behind all these 3 guys - but not THAT FAR BEHIND!! You would be complaining about your $5K income and out Tuans may be complaining about their $3K per mth private sector income!

Adjustment means=Only way to survive is going back to history for all those projects Bodowi and Tahi Dalam Mahadeal and scale back 30% of the contracts value.
We can all see at least 200 to 300 billions in saving that sum will bring down cost of living in Malaysia.

Second Adjustment means=send all those corrupted leaders to jail.

Third Adjustment means=restore judicial

Fourth Adjustment means= cleanse Enforcement personnel

Fifth Adjustment means a Permanent Adjustment= don't ever vote for race based party and must terminate BN and UMNO at all costs in order to realize the 1st to 4th Adjustments peacefully and effectively and constructively.

Whoa! This is giving a totally wrong impression about lawyers. At 26, we have two lawyers earning RM3000 - they are probably in the big firms if it is their first year or they probably return from overseas and started earlier. Cutting down on entertainment expenses or going to "posh" restaurant - that's no pain at all. The author should have picked better examples of lawyers struggling with bills, having to support their family etc.

BN, insaf la sikit, the rakyat are people like you and me. Kalau tak makan mati la kita. We're not immortals.

You younger guys with a 3K salary and you are complaining like babies. What about us older fellas who have worked hard all our life, saving whatever we have then to find out now that what we had saved for the past thirty years henceforth amounts to almost nothing? You guys still have an opportunity to earn more whilst us fellas approaching retirement can't even determine if our savings can cover our funeral costs!!!

The way I look at it, there is only one way out for now. That is to change the present government. We are already at the lowest point now so how bad can a new government be?

PM Badawi said, "Change your lifestyle"

As the PM of Malaysia, he should lead by example. He should stop using the private Airbus jet and start travelling on Air Asia. Maybe that will jatuh standard too much, he can then fly MAS.

It is NOT petrol subsidies that bankrupt Malaysia. It is wastage of Petronas funds and corruption that will bankrupt us. It is BN's racist policies of "Ketuanan Melayu" that stifles our competitive edge. Today, our best brains have migrated to overseas; those left behind are still working out their scholarship bonds; probably frustrated and demotivated.

Here in UK, we pay high taxes but we know money has been used to fund a welfare state. Highways are toll-free except for one - Dartford tunnel. Minimum wage is about GBP6.00 per hour and after working for one hour, we can buy 2 fat chicken in TESCO for dinner. Can u do that in Malaysia?

Of course we know where the money goes - it goes into someone's pockets and his wife has been seen shopping in Harrods of London recently.

In my work place there are no increment for the past three years due to the bad economy but oil and other essential have increase 3 to 5 times already. Pak Lah said we must change our lifestyle but I don't know what's that mean. Is he telling us to live like a begger and start harassing tourist for their money as our lives are bad already and deteriorating.
