Mahathir's Desperate Strike Back
Posted by Super Admin
Wednesday, 21 May 2008 18:08

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is desperate. He even doesn't want his party membership. His only purpose is to force Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to step down.

Mahathir has sixty years of political experience, and he makes every move only after mature deliberation. He goes everywhere smoothly with his toughness and strategies.

However, this time, it seems that Mahathir misjudged the situation. He may lose it all.

No one expected that he will use his resignation to force Abdullah to step down. Probably his favourite successor, Dato' Mukhriz Mahathir had not expected this outcome, too.

"Mahathir's resignation is, in fact, voluntarily helping Abdullah solve a thorny problem."

Perhaps, he is in extreme desperation. Even though he has been forcing Abdullah to step down, but he had failed thus far. Furthermore, timing and resources are not at his side. Therefore, he can only strike back desperately.

However, this near self-destructive blow has very little effect.

Mahathir's decision to quit the party is none other than using his veteran status and his remaining prestige to arouse the discontent of the party members towards Abdullah, and in return to create pressure within the party to force Abdullah to resign.

However, Mahathir isn't as powerful as old days. He doesn't have supporters as he doesn't have power. This is the political reality.

At the moment, his resignation can't create waves of defection. Even if a small number of supporters responded to quit the party, it still won't create great impact.

Only when many Umno MPs and state assemblymen quit the party, which would threaten Umno and the BN, can the pressure on Abdullah be effective.

However, the majority of the Umno MPs and state assemblymen are beneficiaries and also the followers of the people in power. It would be impossible for them to ruin their future for Mahathir.

Moreover, the Umno branches and regional branches are going to hold their respective elections. Grassroots and middle-level cadres have prepared themselves to compete for positions. Who cares about Mahathir's desperate cries?

Perhaps there will be some sympathy voices from within Umno in short term. However, it will count for nothing.

Mahathir's resignation is, in fact, voluntarily helping Abdullah solve a thorny problem. (By TAY TIAN YAN/ Translated by LEE MEI NYEE/ Sin Chew Daily)

It is amazing when I read opinions in MT and other blogs which states that Mahathir will fail!!! Hello.. never discount TDM. He is a stategist and plans his moves very well.. His actions are calculated and I am sure he will bring in more surprises that will boggle the minds of the man on the street, like us.

He will get rid of Pak Lah... and that is coming soon.

"However, Mahathir isn't as powerful as old days. He doesn't have supporters as he doesn't have power. This is the political reality."

The real political reality is Mahathir does not hold the magic pen and his pocket is not deep. It all depends on how much contact and how much the money flow.

whether his resignation solves AAB's "thorny problem" or not, depends on whether he will continue his attacks from outside the party. but either way, i dont see how he can win this "war"... unless, AAB himself decides to resign, which i hope not (i dont want najis taking the helm)

If only he is still in power, we could see more 'tilam' being brought to court.

I wonder where has all the tilam gone?

I'm sure TDM will have one tilam belonging to AAB

The old fox was outfoxed. He was tricked into acting impetuously by a PAS man to resign in bravado. He never thought it thru and thru apparently. Now all his scheming genius avails nothing.

Dear Dr Mahathir,
Come off it lah, most of the UMNOputras are sitting pretty on the gravy train why would they get off for you? What would they get? This is a miscalculation on your part and you might as well retire gracefully and let Pak Lah do whatever he's supposed to do.

My half sen worth.

Scuttling the boat to kill a rat, may appeal to a senile simpleton. To quote his favourite line, "there are many ways to skin a cat", so this one last act may be in desperation. To get rid of AAB by destroying the very party he formed, shows his draconian streak and meanness.
If he wants to destroy UMNO, should it affect all the other rakyat? I say, do it TDM, you are doing the rest of us a big favour!!

I think this is TM's last try to force changes in Umno so that his choice of next PM is supported thru. And if Najib is still have no guts to move forward, that will spelt the end of AB and Najib and Umno too.
Why? I think Anwar is almost there on the numbers and TM is trying to pre-empt it by forcing changes in Umno now before it is too late.
Problem is that AB is not that smart and still think he is great. He is living on farts' support and have been ignorant since he came on board. If he is that smart, you think he can a chance to replace TM? Many people I know in Umno said PM is "blinded" by wrong infos and reports by his SIL. When he go to Umno functions, people are forced to salute him but try walking the streets and see. I think a lot of 4 letters words will be thrown at him, thats why many said he is ignorant of ground conditions and his SIL is no experienced or "old cock" of politics.

Its TDM own undoing, that he has ruled like a dictator in his party and the country for the past 22 years that he has allowed this "dictatorial" system to be so entrenched that the mechanism to set democratic reforms in the ruling party just failed. Further he has manipulated the judiciary to be subservient to him that cause the collapsed of the system of justice and fairness in Malaysia. Both his party, the judicial system and the economic policies (NEP) became so corrupted that wrongs doing kept on surfacing unabated and the AAB government just stood by and does nothing because all the administrative arms of the government are powerless to act in unison as they also become inefficient and corrupted too. TDM must be remmembered as the man who lay the ground work for the collapse of the malaysian democratic system.

Disaster. This word doesn’t applies to Myanmar’s cyclone and China’s earth quake alone, it applies to Malaysia… Politically. UMNO in particular. To put it straight, I personally agree with Tun Mahathir’s move. His resignation is a right thing to do considering UMNO had deviated from its initial objectives. At least, to his point of view. However, the fact is, UMNO had long deviated. The changes happen slowly and gradually over the course of 2 decades of Tun’s leadership and we as the rakyat did not feel. Much. He’d been doing a fine job, making sure he (and his followers) ‘wipe clean his (their) hands after each job’. No doubt, he’s not ‘clean’, but at least he made an effort to keep it hidden and most importantly, he brought tremendous change to the country. These are the ‘art’ that not many are able to master. Certainly not for the ‘sleeping beauty’.. ops.. typo error.. it’s ‘sleeping beast’.

Alright, lets come back to Tun’s resignation before I deviate further. It’s a right thing to do for anyone with dignity or intend to retain his/her dignity. One thing is, he is not able to change anything but to watch UMNO rot. Instead of helplessly clinging on a rotting and deviated party, ‘chopping off’ the relationship seems to be a way out with dignity. Honestly, there isn’t anyone in UMNO that’s worth my respect. Of course, with their arrogance, they don’t even care if I respect them. The reason for me not respecting any one of them is the fact that all of them are fat cats but yet, hunger for more. More power, more money. There may be some individuals in UMNO who thinks they can still ‘save’ UMNO by staying with it. My word for you, good luck! But I believe for most of them, they are still hoping to get something out of UMNO. As a Chinese sayings goes “a wrecked ship would still have some nails left worth hanging on”. Leaving UMNO is a definite end to their hunger. It’s like jumping off the ship! Don’t you agree? Who would leave UMNO? Obviously, those who has the same thinking with Tun and most importantly, has nothing to lose leaving UMNO. I have never agreed that the act of resigning (either political party or simply a company) equals to disloyal. In this case, loyalty is out of question. Anyone who observes wisely can tell, this is a matter of principle.

One may be saying. If UMNO members are of what I say, monetary hungry and power greedy, they might as well leave this rotting party and join the strengthening opposition to further their pursue. My opinion is, if they were to do this, then they are darn silly. The act is like suicidal. Why? Only an innocent thinking rakyat would vote for them again. They’ll be left forgotten sooner then anyone can imagine. Penniless and powerless. Secondly, after many attacks they launch to the opposition, they are now ‘embracing’ the opposition? How conflicting this would sound? To be on a safer side, they choose to cling on with UMNO, praying for it to make a come back, rather then joining the opposition which is seen as a weak collaboration by far. At the same time, they are either too comfortable with their position or too chicken to jump over. Or both. UMNO is now completely paralysed. Anything done is seen as desperate attempts to win the malays heart, but at the same time, irks the non-malays further.

TDM took a very risky gamble, which by hindsight he may realise but the question is why even consider such a risk. To even think in such a manner suggests that either does not want his legacy eroded (but if you notice carefully AAB did not disturb TDm's legacy until TDM disturbed AAB's "slumber") or TDM is being prodded by too many people so much so he has to do something for the sake of this prodders. The third think I can think of is that he has too many skeletons which he is hiding in his cabinet. Maybe the cabinet we know is small. Only TDM knows, I suppose, the size of his cabinet. Anyway high stakes. BTW does he play poker?

Umno lawmakers will only support the person who holds the power as that person has access to the wealth of the nation. TDM has nothing to offer - no influential ministerial or state posts. He is irrelevent except his "legacy"

Rafidah Aziz went down to her knees to beg TDM not to resign at one time. She may loose her control of the lucrative APs. Dato' Hishamudin shed his tears to beg TDM to stay. But when TDM became irrelevent as he has no control over the wealth of the nation, every UMNO stalwards abandon him.

AAB is still the factor in the equation of money. It is safer to hang on and wait and see. If Ku Li succeed, a mass exodus will occur and AAB become irrelevent. That goes to Muhyudin or even Mukhris. But if Anwar manage to obtain the crossovers every UMNO stalwards wants to join PR. It is all the same. TDM has created the culture of MONEY for those in power where he of course benefitted. AAB just follow his footsteps. Cannot be blamed as what he saw during Mahathir's time either as a minister or DPM, it's all manipulation, scheming and twisting.

The show must end. Honeymoon over and justice must prevail. The raayat is no longer sleeping. BN has awaken the giant - the common masses.

All these while,Malaysians are proud of Mahathir because of his achievements for the country and robust economic growth under his leadership not knowing that all these development could be achieved by anyone who is not stupid. Now we know the real capability of this old man when he decided to quit UMNO just to force Pak Lah to step down.Pak Lah doesn't step down as Prime Minister of course but it is Mahathir who is out of UMNO.

As far as the non-bumiputeras are concerned, who cares who becomes the President of UMNO? They are all racists and ultras(else they won't have climbed that political so fast). But, still between the two evils, the non-Malays will stick with AAB. He did not cry for the keris to be bathed in Chinese blood. And Najis was the one who extended the NEP till forever.

Remember, when the constitution was first promulgated, it was supposed to be for 15 years after independence to give some preferential treatment to the Malays in the areas of education and economy to allow them to catch up. But UMNO has extended it twice, and its now been 50 years, and still counting.

That was the only "social contract" agreed upon. In fact, the term "social contract" was coined by UMNO ultras. There never was any social contract. The only "contract" was the one stated in para. 1 above.

As we all know, once you give a spoilt child too much of a good thing, you can never stop giving him, otherwise he will bawl and throw a tantrum.

And this Mahathir's constant screaming concerns Mahathir and his pride only. After all, he was the one who set the basis of dictatorial power in the hands of the President in UMNO. He was the one who set the quota rule for election of the President in UMNO. So what the f**k is he complaining about? In fact, he is the cause of all the ills now going on in our country, from discrimination, racism, to cronyism.
