What’s really behind the Mahathir gambit?

On 28 June 2002, that’s almost six years ago, I wrote the following piece. That was soon after Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad suddenly announced his resignation as Prime Minister halfway though his speech at the Umno General Assembly. Mahathir certainly took everyone by surprise, as he did on Sunday when he announced his resignation from Umno. Maybe we can recap what I wrote six years ago.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Defence Minister Najib Tun Razak and not Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is Dr Mahathir’s real choice as successor, said an extremely nervous UMNO insider whom I met at a secluded coffee shop on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. And Mahathir had really intended to go at the end of this year, not next year.

“You sure you were not followed?” asked the UMNO insider, glancing over his shoulders.

“Of course not!” I replied. “Why should I be followed?”

“Who knows? You are an ex-ISA detainee. I am sure the Special Branch is monitoring your movements.”

“Don’t worry,” I assured him. “I made sure I went round and round on my bike to shake off any possible tails.”

“And make sure you don’t mention my name,” he stressed, yet again. “When you made that report on ABIM you said, ‘someone close to the previous Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’. That’s dangerous. Everyone can suspect who you mean though you never mentioned his name.”

“Don’t worry,” I assured him again. “I will not make that mistake again.”

“Mahathir did not intend to retire after October 2003,” said the UMNO insider after he had calmed down. “He was never given a chance to finish his closing speech. They quickly surrounded him and escorted him off the stage. If Mahathir had been allowed to finish his speech, he would have announced that he planned to retire at the end of this year, not the end of next year.”

“Why would Mahathir want a long transition period? He already said in an interview once that this would make him a lame duck.”

“You think Mahathir’s announcement to resign was impromptu? He was reading from his prepared speech when he announced this. The announcement was already planned beforehand. It was written into his speech.”

“They published his opening speech in full. But they did not publish his closing speech. Why? Because this would show that his resignation announcement was already written into his speech and was not spontaneous. His family was aware of it. So was Daim.”

“Hmm. How do you know?” I was now really intrigued.

“Daim came for the opening isn’t it? But he was not there for the closing when Mahathir was supposed to announce his resignation. Daim knew Mahathir was going to make this announcement. That’s why he did not turn up. It was all planned.”

“And that’s why Daim left the government. He was not sacked by Mahathir, as everyone believes. He just wanted to get out before Mahathir does.”

“People think that Daim’s people suffered after he got sacked by Mahathir. His people did not suffer. Daim bailed them out. The government took over all their companies, not to punish them because they are Daim’s people, but to help them clear their debts.”

“Before the government took over their companies, they owed the banks billions which they could not repay. Now, they are sitting on hundreds of millions in hard cash. They were not punished, they were rewarded. They did not lose their companies. They lost their debts.”

“Mahathir and Daim made sure they bailed out all their friends and family before Mahathir retires. Daim went first. Then all their cronies got saved. And, now that everyone is safe, Mahathir too retires.”

“Didn’t Mahathir himself say that he had been thinking of retiring for some time? He said this when they all rushed up to him as soon as he announced his resignation. He said he had made up his mind long ago. It was not a sudden or spontaneous move.”

“Mahathir’s son also said that his father’s resignation is for real and that there is no turning back. Even Ku Li was told. Mahathir wanted Ku Li to support his choice of successor. But Pak Lah and the rest were not told.”

“That night they had an emergency meeting and Mahathir scolded Pak Lah for announcing that he had agreed to retire after 25 October next year. First Pak Lah told the press that it would be on 25 October. Then, he said the actual date had not been fixed yet but it will be some time after 25 October. This is inconsistent and shows that the date had never been agreed upon.”

“Mahathir has been disgusted with the UMNO Malays for a long time now. His entire speech at the recent General Assembly was lambasting the UMNO Malays.”

“He wasn’t running down the PAS Malays. He was talking about the Malays who got contracts, projects and permits and sold them for quick money. Which Malays are these? UMNO Malays! PAS Malays cannot get contacts, projects or permits from the government. Only UMNO Malays can. He was disgusted with the UMNO Malays.”

“Mahathir was not trying to give the UMNO Malays a wake-up call. He was giving them his farewell speech and telling them why he is abandoning them. He is telling them he is so disgusted with them and is leaving them. He wants nothing more to do with the UMNO Malays.”

“Maybe Dr Mahathir wanted to give Abdullah Badawi ample time to slip into the job,” I said. “That’s why he decided to have a long transition period of 16 months.”

“Who said Mahathir wants Pak Lah to replace him?”

“Come again!” This one really took me by surprise. “Then who does he want as his successor?”

“Najib!”

“Najib?” I could not believe I was hearing this. “What makes you say this? Isn’t Abdullah Badawi the number two? By tradition, this makes him the likely choice.”

“Since when does Mahathir abide to tradition? Look, after he had announced his resignation, he summoned Najib and had a private word with him. He chased everyone else out of the room and spent 40 minutes alone with Najib. Why should he do this? This is Mahathir’s way of saying that he is in favour of Najib.”

“If this is so, why then did Mahathir not just announce Najib as his choice of successor?” I asked. “Why drop hints?”

“Mahathir cannot openly say this. UMNO will never be able to accept this. If he does, he would be lining Najib up for the kill. He does not want to kill Najib. He wants Najib to take over.”

“Pak Lah would not be easily accepted by the rest. Rais Yatim, who imagines himself as an intellectual, would never accept Pak Lah as his boss. He looks down on Pak Lah. He thinks Pah Lah is a nincompoop.”

“But Mahathir himself chose Abdullah Badawi as his number two. Why would Mahathir now not want him to be the successor?” I asked, not quite sure this whole thing made sense.

“Mahathir chose Pak Lah because he was the safest. Mahathir did not consider him a threat. He knows Pak Lah would not try to push him aside or try to take over before he was ready to go. But Pak Lah did not win the post. He was not elected. He was appointed by Mahathir. That’s why it would be difficult for them to accept Pak Lah.”

“But Mahathir now realises that Pak Lah cannot handle the job. You know or not, he never even reads his Cabinet papers. Most of the time he does not even know what is happening in his own Ministry.”

“Do you remember when you, Ezam, and all the rest were arrested under ISA last year? Pak Lah was asked in Parliament whether you were all arrested under the ISA and he denied it. He said if you were then he would know about it, as he would have to sign the papers. Since he did not sign any papers, then there could not have been any ISA arrests.”

“Pak Lah was not lying or trying to hide anything. He really didn’t know. As the Minister, how come he does not know he need not sign any papers? He only needs to sign the papers after the 60 days when the detainee is sent to Kamunting. He does not need to sign anything to arrest someone under the ISA. It is all up to the police. He does not even know this.”

“Pak Lah has not been much support to Mahathir these last four years. When Anwar was his number two, Mahathir hardly had any problems. Anwar took care of everything. Anwar solved all the problems. Now, these last four years, all the problems are on Mahathir’s shoulders.”

“When he was number two, Anwar would spend at least 15 or 20 minutes every morning with Mahathir. He would brief Mahathir on what was going on and what action he had taken or would take. Mahathir was able to leave everything to Anwar to handle. Even when Mahathir was overseas, Anwar would phone him and talk to him for an hour. Mahathir would be told what was going on back home. Mahathir knew the country was in safe hands.”

“But this has not been so in Pak Lah’s case. Mahathir has to do everything himself. Pak Lah cannot even run his own Ministry let alone take care of Mahathir’s problems.”

“Mahathir knows Pak Lah is not capable of taking over. But he cannot push Pak Lah aside and put Najib in charge. So he gives a transition period and leaves it to UMNO to choose, just like what he did between Ku Li and Musa. He did not choose Musa as his number two. He left it to UMNO to make this decision. But he secretly supported Musa to make sure Musa wins.”

“He will do the same here. He will let UMNO decide on his successor but he will send signals that he wants Najib and not Pak Lah. That way, UMNO decides and not him. UMNO knows that Mahathir wants Najib and not Pak Lah. So there will now be heavy jostling for the top two posts.”

“It would have been safer for Pak Lah if UMNO had put a shorter transition period for the takeover like how Mahathir had intended. Now, with so much time, Pak Lah’s position becomes shakier. UMNO has given Najib more time to plan his moves. This long transition period is not to Pak Lah’s advantage. It helps Najib.”

Hmm, this is certainly a new twist to the Mahathir resignation drama. And, if what this UMNO insider tells me is true, then UMNO politics would be most interesting to watch over the next 16 months or so.

This is certainly most interesting. I can't believe it. Mahathir's retirement speech was pre-scripted by someone else? Woah, can't wait for RPK to reveal more. My eyes are wide open. Nice post, RPK!

Abang Pete,

When a person has evil intentions it's always backfire on him so the reason why Mahathir selected Badawi as his successor since he thought that he can bungkus the latter but instead came back and bit him. That's why Mahathir is so very pissed off which explains the rants & tandrum the last few days.

Badawi has proven to be so incompetent that Pakatan Rakyat came to take prominence thanks to him. So the rest is history!

Btw think you are a marked man so try some disguise Abang, maybe a toopee for instance! Stay save & healthy Abang.

As they say...and the rest is history. So is Mahathir. He should quit creating chaos for his own personal agenda. We will suffer as a result of his actions. However I may do the same thing if I am a wounded tiger. If AAB stays on he is in deep shite. If DSAI takes over he is in deeper shite. Can u see where its all heading to? He is shiting in his pants unless Najib takes over pronto!

What an exact account of the truth. RPK, imagine what ever that Insider told you 6 years ago was nothing but the truth! Well, Mahathir has lost. He chased out all his capable leaders and opted for buffoons that he could control. Sources say AAB is just telling UMNO that he will handover to Najis but the truth is that he doesn't want him. UMNO repeating itself. But this time round, the man Mahathir hates will take over. Deep down Mahathir regrets that he fell out with Anwar but you know he is always unrepentant. That's why God punished him with AAB. Poetic justice indeed.

but after talking to some grassroot UMNO, they internally feel that there are just to many scandals surrounding najib and not comfortable in supporting him to be the number one. they might not want him to be in number 2 too.

is interesting to see how najib can become number one when his own team ppl are not in favor of him. they said it will be disastrous if the rumour appears to be true. then the whole of UMNO will be in trouble ......

That TDM had played an active role to bail ot Daim and all other cronies of his time to the tune of billions during the Asian Financial crisis makes me sick on the stomach. When all others are down and out, these cronies sit out comfortably through the tough times with a generous helping hand from the Nation's coffers. TDM is not a saint as many would like to paint him out to be. Badawi may be inept and lack the qualities of a leader but he sure learn through what his predecessor had taught him. If Malaysia keeps producing these leaders on the forefront, we can bid goodbye to this blessed country. If the rakyat has to go down, we gonna drag the whole bunch in Putrajaya and all the dirty politicians along with us. Not the other way round. It's payback time.

RPK has been right all along when he lambasted the UMNO leaders who walks the corridor of power. Most of them are corrupt and is only interested to look after themselves, family, cronies and their business interest throught their associates.

Diam is the most corrupt of all. The goverment seeks FDIs and this guy took money to invest in South Africa.

Dr. M has used the country's resources to bail out many of his cronies, family and friends. He treats the Treasury like his own bank accountlah.

If UMNO collapse, who is going to bail out incompetent Bumi businesses? That is why UMNO cannot disintegrate. There are still many BUMIS relying on the good fortune of UMNO and the influence to take care of their livelihood and businesses.

Without UMNO, most of them will Kaput. It will happen. It is a matter of time only.

That is why many UMNO leaders are willing to play the racial card game to safeguad their selfish interests.

My advise is for them to work hard to earn a living like everybody else. The HALAL way. Don't just go for halal restaurants when our lifestyle is not halal.

Park Lah.

UMNO people still can't see the bigger picture here. UMNO is not relevant anymore. The rakyat has abandoned them since 8 Mac 08. They are now fighting against each other onboard a sinking ship. They are busy saving their Cash Cow without giving any thought about the Rakyat's message to them.

As rakyat, let us all enjoy the show and let them sink the ship faster. A new Malaysia will emerged from it. A new beginning for a better country shared by everyone. Let's put Malaysia in the Global Hall of Fame again. Let our children remember the era when the racist ship sinked.

How trustworthy is your insider? Sometimes information and misinformation come in one package.

The resignation of TDM did not surprise me one bit. The poker game is over for him. He has revealed the closed card. There was nothing left for him to do.

It is the cards of the other players in the game that interest me.

Only those within UMNO matter. That is why the MP's backed the PM.

This is consistent with the perception the public has on AAB. It also confirm that Mahathir's action against Anwar was purely personal, and charges made-up.

For Mahathir, redeem himself by helping Anwar to take that rightful place as PM. It is also for the well-being of our country.

It makes out Mahathir to be a man of integrity. Look at how he handles himself and play the race card after all he preached about a Malaysian Malaysia. Now he is backing Melayu Ketuan. If he was sick of UMNO Malays and their corrupt ways, then why did he choose Najib whom many say is most corrupt. Mahathir really wanted someone to help his children to continue making money through UMNO. Najib would fit the bill as Mahathir has his balls in his hands just as Badawi now has his balls in a vice. I do not know how RPK can trust this guy which is obviously Mahathir's PR agent.

Mahathir is piling the pressure on Badawi. He feels he has nothing to lose. He says umno MPs are for the money and position..all of them. He probably feels umno has it is must be destroyed even at the cost of Anwar becoming PM.

The good thing about this is that BN will not call for snap elections, not with Mahathir on the outside speaking out against umno. BN cannot take the risk of Mahathir speaking to malays all over the country against umno.

Dear RPK,

If your UMNO informer was correct in his evaluation, then Dr.M has a very strange sense of honour (humour, perhaps?). Why did he made sure that his family members, friends and cronies were bailed out with the nation's money while at the same time he claims to be thoroughly fedup with the UMNO Malays?

Seems like the 'facts' do not match.

And if Dr.M is so caring about the country and the Malays in particular, then why did he try to diminish the importance of the Malay royalty?

In the same vein, why did he destroy the credibility of our Judicial system when in some distant past, our Judiciary was one of the finest in the world? At least thats the impression the rakyat has from the way the Commission has reported about Dr.M's implied involvement in manipulating the Judiciary?

I could go on and on with more history of this recalcitrant ex-PM's misbehaviour, but the above would suffice to illustrate my point.

Now, anyone of you still think the NEP is helping the Malays?
No wonder Malaysia under Malay Umno leadership can never progress because their intention is nothing but to enrich themselves and their cronies.

What's all the subsidies that the govt gave to poor Malaysians as compared to the billions of ringgit in bailouts to former PMs and Badawi's cronies?

Umno Malay leaders i.e Tun Mahathir, Tun Hussien, Badawi and Razak failed to make Malaysia into a strong and vibrant economic country despite our rich natural resources.

Time to let other non-Malay Malaysians do the job.

If TDM was happy with Anwar's performance, why was DSAI framed and thrown out?
Why TDM chose or approved AAB to be his successor?
Why, Why?
And why Najib, of all the people, is it as a gratitude to Tun Abdul Razak who allowed Dr M then to reenter UMNO?
A lot of unanswered questions!!

I prefer DSAI over AAB and certainly Najib!
Unless of course if Shahrir or Zaid Ibrahim is able to rise up to the post fast enough to be considered!

Dollah pun tersengih!

That ToonDogM is just looking for someone who can protect him and his family from any form of prosecution. His gambit is just a desperado attempt to keep his closet of skeletons with its loosening door hinges from bursting open for the whole world to see. Who else can give him that sort of protection other than Najis, whose also own an overpacked closet of skeletons which could likewise burst open but is currently being held back firmly by his go-men?

Does anyone remember if and when Mahathir ever say anything nice about anyone, or remark that he held in esteem or admiration? I myself (57th birthday 2 days ago) cannot remember he ever did so. Never once!!! This man probably believed he is the greatest human being alive, if not the greatest human being ever. If you understand this fact, then it should not be difficult to understand why he did what he did.

Looking back at TDM's past records in his acts and words, you can see his scorn and disdain for lawyers and the laws, including the Federal Constitution. That much speaks of a man and a so-called leader who has had no respect for the laws of the land. When you confer him the political and executive powers, you are giving him a blank cheque. By all means if this nation and the rakyat trusts him to that extent, give him undivided support for all you want. For me, the dangers and his records of abuses, deceit and betrayal of the mandate say all for his integrity and credibility. Your choice. Your decision.

So we can assume that when TDM announced that he is leaving the party, he had the intention but the prompt from the floor made him retort that he would. Liking the scenario he played along and invited everyone to resign too. So now he is again in the limelight. Interesting. Applying what beloved RPK stated in his article in 2002, najib was always the successor and still is in TDM's mind as they are all related and najib would certainly take care of his uncle's legacy, including all of TDM cronies. As these cronies would still provide the food wagon for najib and vice versa. Interesting. The person who broke the camels back is AAB. So he is seen as a serpant. Who wouldn't be. TDM is utterly furious. What a drama in real life. Interesting. AAB is going to have the fight of his life then. For now, it is no turning back, TDM will use everything against AAB. And AAb with 4th floor and his sil will have to fight against everything, DSAi, parties in BN, TDM and perhaps najib too. Wow. Gajah dan Gajah berlawan. we semuts should not be trampled. So, I suggest to AAB please clean the whole government remove all the baggage in umno and component parties and bring in new blood, go on an exercise to get new members. Forget about TDM trying to bring members to his side. Then open up everything possible, you have started, let everyone know everything. Than sit and watch.

It's so disgusting to hear from TDM's mouth that what he is doing now is good for UMNO and that he always worked for the Natioan as a whole! In actual fact, he worked in contrary to his words and all he was doing were mainly to benefit his own family and the cronies group! He was outspoken to gain great fame for himself without a damn concerned of the Nation being isolated by the world family!

If what was told by the informer was real, TDM had praised Anuar so much on his capability and that's supposed a good testament to Anuar's capability to be his successor and being wise in cerebral thinking of the Nation, Anuar should be the one be promoted but then why again resort to character assassinate him and preferred to pick AAB knowing very well he is lousy?! Just because he is a lame duck, easy to be maneuvred?

Now that he is stung by the hornet and whatever he is planning can hardly gain any resonant from the hyenas which had switched over to a master who can give them meat! TDM should understand much better the characters of these political animals and if he's still wise in thinking, he should retire to his kampung and play with his grand children and enjoy the remaining of his life before the next stroke of his heart! He may not be that lucky again to sruvive the last call to hell!.................

Truly it is ironic. TDM plans so much to do things his way i.e " My Way". However it is all in vain as Man proposes and God disposes. TDM got rid of DSAI and settled down to plan his succession. Unfortunately by picking AAB to temporarily stand in for Najib, the master planner TDM has unknowingly set the scene for the return of Anwar Ibrahim from the ashes. From the ashes shall rise the phoenix. Who would have realised that all the present shitty circumstances UMNO leaders and judges are embroiled in, are actually in favour of DSAI.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim may yet become the next Prime Minister of Malaysia if God wills it. I guess DSAI will have the divine blessings of Almighty to steer our beloved Malaysia out of troubled waters both politically and economically. I truly hope that DSAI is a reformed man and has the interest of the rakyat in his heart. Otherwise we would have put our trust and confidence in vain in Pakatan Rakyat and especially our high calibre Anwar Ibrahim. Long live DSAI.

Do not underestimate Abdullah Badawi 'lembik' character. Indecisive leader like him actually will expose true color of those people around him by creating 'unconcious' infighting among his subordinate. There he will pick his weakest prey and oust them one by one. The best strategy is to keep quiet and follow instruction. This type of leader only can be brought down by majority - commoner.Believe it or not, those UMNO leader that show their ugly head too early will never achieve anything in the end.

From the remarks, i can see many MT readers not reading the article properly....
This article is nearly 6 years old and the conversation happened back then.

I think there was no misinformation there by the informant. When Pak Lah came to power as DPM, he was chosen because he was a neutral and would not piss too many people off after getting rid of the highly popular anwar.

I think in the four years before his retirement, TDM had realise his mistake in making him a deputy but couldn't throw the book on Pak Lah for any scandals or mistakes, since all he did was sleeping on the job. Given incompetency is not an acceptable reason to terminate people's services in our malaysian government, he realise he had to step down, given his gamble of not taking the IMF loan didn't really work (many would disagree but with IMF coming in, we could have open our books and moved ahead with greater transperancy, and in the long run be better off, look at Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia,etc....) To go through the struggle by ourselves, we have to spend more, create greater budget deficits, spend money we don't have, spent extra on imports, etc....)

So who better to take the fall when the can of worms is open than Pak Lah? Then his choice of successor Najib takes over in time. But Pak Lah got smart, he won over the people with his "clean cut" image. He put a stop to all mahathirs extravagant projects to piss him and his cronies off further, but slowly to heal the economy. But by spending less, he piss off a lot of hungry umno wolves (u think they enter politics and UMNO to serve the rakyat?).... these wolves are then pacified by Najib, who promise them great winfall once he get to power.

Anyway, TDM is pissed because AAB like Anwar betrayed TDM, who as Finance Minister then refuse to work with him in his policies of "save my cronies". Pak Lah did worse,...he release Anwar and allowed the Lingam case to be pursued. Unfortunately, TDM do not control the ISA, police, or Judges anymore, and can't get rid of AAB by some cooked up charges and a stained mattress. So, he had to resign now and create dissention among the ranks, since he can't even get an invite to the UMNO general assembly in December.

Good try TDM..... I hope AAB stay long enough to get you locked up first, if that is the last thing he does as PM.

After Lal Bahdur Shastri died, the Congress Party picked Indira Gandhi to be PM. The party bigwigs thought she could be easily manipulated. In the end, she turned the tables on them and made mincemeat of all of them. She split Congress into two. Later, her faction split into two again. Through all this she survived. The splits resulted in the Opposition emerging as a credible force and even ruling India for a spell. Now, the Congress is back in power again in coalition with smaller parties.

I believe that the more you hit out at Badawi, the stronger he will become. In the end, he will get rid of Najib too. There is nothing to prevent Badawi from splitting Umno into two and forming a coalition with the Opposition Alliance.

Hussein Onn picked Mahathir because Razak told him to do so. Both men, Razak and Hussein Onn, thought that Mahathir was a loner with no grassroots support. In the end, Mahathir pushed out Hussein Onn and became PM. He used the unopposed strategy to remain in power. The only time that someone contested against him, i.e. Razaleigh, Mahathir almost lost. Had 22 votes shifted, Mahathir would have lost by one vote.

The politics of Malaysia mirrors the politics of India and that's because Malay politics is dominated by Ketuanan Kaka, Mamak and Arab. For another, Malaysia as the microcosm of the British Empire, is the granddaughter of India.

Simple comparison of Malaysia to Singapore - with Malaysia under BN for 50 years

Malaysia
Big land , rich natural resources, abundance of agricultural produce, bright people willing to work and excel but no opportunity .
Bad politicians holding the office with NEP , many quotas and cronies, happily forcing brain drain to its neighbours.
Poor country rating in many aspects , few foreign investment, sliding backwards compare to neighbours.

Singapore
Miniature land, no natural resources,no agriculturall produce, bright people willing to excel, abundance of opportunities base on merit.
Good politicians and leaders ,no NEP, transparent, and happily receive brain drains from Malaysia.
Top rating in all aspects, overflowing foreign investments, beat all its neighbours flat economically.

I think BN should just resign en-bloc ..... of course Mahathir has to get lost .

Readers should be asking questions such as.

1. Is there actually a so-called "UMNO insider", or is it simply RPK bullshitting here and giving Mahathir dues, he do not deserve.

2. Do we need to believe stories such as this, and allow Mahathir to shit on us all over again.

Dear Yang Mulia Raja Petra,

This may seems stupid but the way i see it, Tun Dr.Mahathir works best when he is outside UMNO. No hold bars for him.

Tun Dr. Mahathir wants Pak Lah to step down which Pak Lah refused. So, now Tun wants him to be kicked out of office. This is the ultimate objective. Kicked Pak Lah out of office! [b]The big question is HOW? Tun tried to do it from the inside UMNO but it doesn't seem to work. Somebody got to do it from the outside but the question is who will and can do it effectively? I think who else if not Tun himself. No hold bars from the outside. Tun is free to critique.Tun is free to do what he wants. Tun is free to form another party. Something like UMNO SEJATI or PARTI MELAYU BERSATU or whatever. There are so many options. The ultimate objective, the target, the goal is TO KICK PAK LAH OUT OF OFFICE.

However Tun is short of naming the replacement PM. I am quite optimistic that in a few days he will name someone. Probably Najib, maybe Muhyiddin. Or for some electric shock, Tun may name someone that is accepted by majority of the warlords like Tengku Razaleigh. I wish i know what was discuss between Tun and Najib recently.

Now both DSAI and Tun is out of UMNO. They both want Pak Lah to be kicked out. How? DSAI has shown all and sundries his chess game. Now it's Tun's turn.

Yes, the power game within and outside UMNO is getting very interesting.

Tun's game plan was "to be Malaysia's Prime Minister perpetually" that is why he chosed a weak person to succeed him so he could still have control from behind the scene. He didn't realise that Badawi coud be a smart one.
This Badawi quickly took control.
He cut all influence of his mentor.
And ever since, Tun has been on a war-path.
Like the saying, "Manusia merancang.... Tuhan menentukan"

Dear RPK

At the forum on Monday 19 May in ALor Star, Tun was asked who would be suitable to lead the country? AAB has been called a destroyer of BN, Najib a 'penakut' or coward. Tunku Rezaleigh had been labelled as too old. Then who???

His answer is was

a. There sgould be a council of elders to advice (and check) the Predident of UMNO

b. There should also be a council of elders to acvice (and check) the Prime Minister.

This idea had never been proposed before. This could be the political panacea not just for today but for generations to come. Someone should interview Tun Mahathir and obtain from him details on hiw he proposed to make this work.

I guess no leaders appointed will be perfect. It's either they are corrupted or unintellectual or they just have a plain ugly face. These are traits of imperfections.

Nevertheless, to be a leader, humility, self sacrificing, conscientous, and love (and a whole lot more) are traits that they need to embrace as well while overcoming their imperfections.

Neither TDM, AAB, NJ, nor even DSAI will be perfect. BUT, just as long as one's intention is clear and know to whom they serve, then rakyats will be more forgiving and understanding.

Anwar knows what is happening, the good, bad and ugly! He's been in the oven and if he has changed, some would like him to be, some would like to believe and most importantly some believe he had. That said, is what really matters to the country, change for a credible government and the Rakyat voted March 08 2008 for change albeit done with the GE12 election, is waiting for this 'aspiring' GREATER LEADERSHIP CHANGE in the whole government!

Mahathir is gone and panicky. Let's forget about him, there's no good in him. The man who ruined the country for 22 years and still not having enough?
Some see some good in him but many see many bad done by him. This country belongs to the Rakyat, not him but to all Malaysians.

Why do you think America president can only run for 4 years, no matter how good one president might be. There could be no other future people being better leader than any present one?

Perhaps one day Malaysia changes its Top ministers' policies on the race while the machineries of the government services are placed first for the Rakyat above race and religion, then there is lesser fear of the Malays being sidelined. No one race should be sidelined and this achievable when these government machineries works on that blueprint of true, fair policies for all people, irrespective of races.

Let Mahathir go, we don't want him or his influence of his era, the past.

We don't need him. We don't owe him, he owes us, billions to the Rakyat!

Hoping for some drippings from PM on rebound?

Surely, this is slightly less than resounding mass support
When we have at least one Madhatter offspring short
Why Mukhriz sticks around might not be as clear as day
But one thing is certain, Madhatter’s decision doesn’t seem semua-nya OK!

Slightly off-topic. Mahathir was reported to be disgusted with the UMNO Malays. Those UMNO Malays that took contracts and projects and turned it around quickly by selling-off for quick money. But he did not lambast the PAS Malays.

So, are the PAS Malays more hardworking and may be more successful and may be have the same work ethics as the Chinese and Indian Malaysians with respect to running their businesses and projects? Anyone care to shed some light on this?

TUN, you ruled for 22 years and with such a long period of time, you cannot change the Malay, who is to be blame for that?

Since you cannot change the Malay to what you want, it is noble for you to stepdown and let someone run. You choses AAB. Then you told us he was the right person. Several years later you said the opposite. Who is to be blame? How are we going to trust what you say now?

You said Najib was your choice but recently you said Najib is a coward and not suitable to be PM. Now you want someone else. When this is going to end?

How would we know that you would not change your mind again?

Tun, we use to love you and we still love you in spite of what you have done. We tried to think of the positive things you have done and try to forgive the negative things. Lately, you are tearing the country apart. You have made your point and that is good enough. Please enjoy your retirement and complete your memoir so that we all can read it. WE MEAN IT, TON.

It is not that we like AAB, but like yourself AAB is not perfect. Like yourself we want to focus on the positive things AAB has done. What is more important to us now is the need for the country to reform such as;

1) we need to reform our judiciary
2) we need to reform our security
3) we need to reform our anti corruption agency
4) we need to reform our education
5) we need to reform our government administration
6) we need to get rid of those pro-corruption and pro-inefficient APs system
7) we need to get rid of all those corrupted politicians and replaced them with those who genuinely want to make Malaysia a better place
