KUALA LUMPUR: Businessman and former Youth wing treasurer Datuk Mokhzani Mahathir announced Wednesday that he was quitting Umno.

His announcement comes two days after his father Dr Mahathir resigned from the party.

On Tuesday, Umno Youth exco member and Jerlun MP Datuk Mukhriz, who is also Mokhzani's brother, had announced that he will not quit the party.

He however called on Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to resign.

Notice how those who resigned don't have any positions.

Mahathir concentrated so much power in the federal executive so that he held all the carrots to command the loyalty of everyone.

Yet, he now thinks he can oppose the same system he created.

Those who are reaping the privileges of power will not resign.

Malaysia is not falling apart because the ex PM has resigned his membership of UMNO.
Please grow up UMNO. Many PMs in the world has resigned and the world is still ticking on. Goes for this one too. Malaysians have joined with their fellow citizens worldwide and have matured, while UMNO is still behaving like a baby.

Get him a milk bottle so that he can sulk in the corner.

UMNO members care a damn about love of party or president or past president. They will support whoever can assure them of benefits, privileges, contracts or positions.
UMNO Baru was not founded on any strong moral foundation or Malay sovereignty. It was founded on patronage, perks and a bit of fear.

Taufique is right. Let's stop racist name calling. Deal with the issues. Dr.M is a pot calling the kettle black. He is more cornered by the day n may face further enquiries, possibly prosecution soon due to Lingamgate. If Anwar takes over as PM then he is doomed. That's why a wounded tiger has to fight back. Dr.M is using his last bullet.

As I've commented before, anyone who has a lot to lose by quiting UMNO will not quit, including his own son. His wife n other son quit because he's neither a MP or fighting for any position in UMNO. This, saudara saudari, is UMNO (or MCA or MIC) in its truest unadultared and purest tradition.

Hey folks, You may be angry like hell, you can condamn in whichever way, but please refrain from touching ethnic origins and religions.

We are all fighting for fair tretment, equal rights, equal ooportunities, and equal privileges.

I do not condon the segregation of bumiputra/non-bumiputra cause that clearly saying 1st class and 2nd class citizens and non-bumi are treated like dirt. I do not support special rights/privileges for Malays alone cause that clearly planting the idea that Malays are not able to be independent and need spoon fed. I believe we all are much stronger than that.
