Mass rallies possible after Mahathir resignation
Posted by labisman

Written by Kazi Mahmood

In the event there is no massive resignation of the party base and MP’s from the party, Mahathir will be left with one final option, that of rallying the Malay voters and organize possible street protests to attract further attention.

Local observers who spoke to WorldFutures on the political development in Malaysia after the resignation of Mahathir Mohamad from the United Malays National Organization (Umno) said they expect the former PM to gather the crowds and start his own ‘reformasi’.

The move to resign from Umno is to put pressure on the party to oust the current Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi before the December 2008 party polls. There are signs that the PM will hold sway in December and might win the challenge against his leadership if he is associated with the deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak who is also the Defense Minister.

The only way left for Mahathir to see the end of the rule of Abdullah Badawi – which is the ultimate struggle for the former PM now – will be to rally all the anti-Abdullah forces under him and to press the party for a change of leadership well before December, the observers said.

Mahathir seems to have found the ‘holy-grail’ in the possible loss of political power by Muslims in Malaysia after the 12th General Elections. He will use this as the horse battle to bring the Malays to gather forces and try end the leadership of Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. Mahathir is turning a major development project in southern Malaysia called the Iskandar project into a political and racial battle, involving neighboring Singapore and Malaysian Malays.

With his sudden move, he might rally a large section of the blogging community, who played a vital role in the near downfall of the Abdullah Badawi regime in March this year. Mahathir blamed the Prime Minister for the poor showing – expected by large sections of the blogging community and predicted by Raja Petra Kamaruddin on his website Malaysia-Today.

In the interest of civil peace and fair and consistent police action, the rakyat demands that if mass street protests are organized by UMNO zealots, water canon, batons, tear gas be used against the protestors.

We also demand that ISA be used against the top people suspected to be behind such mass rallies, including the one who make all this happen in the first place.

Hey, hey, the blogging community is not all against Pak lah, don't get it so wrong. Between Pak Lah and Mahatir, give us Pak lah anytime.

Don't hope to see many following mahatir out of UMNO.

Don't even dream about a mass rally because there is no real cause unlike the hindraf and bersih.

Malaysia for malaysians and not for UMNO has beens. Give them water cannon and put them into jail under ISA. Malaysia should not be a lawless country.

If Dr. M organize any rally, the police will come out with water cannons, dogs, sheilds, pepper sprays, handcuffs, black marias and thousands of police. The first person going inside the Black Maria will be Dr. M.

We can all petition for Pak Lah to resign. Don't waste time following the unemployed Dr. M around.

He has wasted 20 years of Raayats'time. At this old age when the coffin is more welcome than anything, Dr. M still wants to waste the Raayat's time.

Dr. M can you go and fly a wau in Kelantan?

You still want the Raayat to pay and play your Folly?

Wise up, Dr. M, heaven and hell you can choose. Choose wisely now!

Personally I do not subscirbe to mass rallies of any sort as this may lead to other unwarranted disasters and casulaties. If there are others who feel that the present UMNO has failed in many ways, resign if you wish and proceed with your current line of thinking. There will be better results that way rather than joining mass rallies and disrupting the daily lives of the rakyat. The PRU-12 results the rakyat has provided says for itself but apparently the current losers are still adamant that they are the favourable lot and that clearly shows the lack of intelligent. 4 years ahead maybe be a short time for many but it is definetely the better way for PR to improve themselves to govern the country better. Many may think that 4 years is a long time to wait but rest be assured that practice makes it perfect and the next government will be a more responsible one.

Interestingly enough, the blogging community will apparently side with AAB rather than with Tun if things go awry. That is good news for the PM. Perhaps at the end of the struggle, Malaysians will realize that AAB is doing the right thing just like www.worldfutures.info has reported before elections on how many good things the PM has done.
This including the release of Anwar, the freeing up of blogosfere and the diverting of the economy from a simple recipient of investment to that of a pro-active one with foreign investors participating fully in the development process and the diversification of the investment source (from US and Japan under Mahathir to the UAE-India-Russia under AAB). Futile to elaborate here but keep scores up. So far I see in the comments a large majority in favor of Badwi rather than Mahathir.
This is what made Badwi the right choice after the reformasi and today, he seem to be able to turn the tide if Mahathir goes head on in a collision course against Badwi.

So now that this supposed puppet AAB did not obey the puppet master (TDM), the angry puppet master wants to destroy the puppet he has made !. And replace it with another puppet !.

Why would we want to rally for someone who incite Fellow Malaysians against each other and that I have surrendered my rights/freedom since my fore-fathers signed our Rights away in a Social Contract? If this is for BERSIH/MAKKAL SAKTI/Toll-Hike/Human Rights/Abolishment of ISA, no problem, these are Good Causes, but for someone's Ego and selfishness???

Sorry Tun, we, Non-Malays as you described in your HATE blog article and speech are 'always challenging & questioning your Special Rights' or 'Disrespecting You', so we'll take a raincheck and watch from the roadside-lar because we all here memang tak patut 'question your Ketuanan'. Adapted from the Bangkok Post:

I have always said Dr Mahathir is a menace to his own people. Now only you can see the effects of his foolishness when the ringgit has halved its value overnight and your economy goes kaput. Single handedly you have caused hardship to millions of your own people. You have built useless mega projects at tremendous cost to the country. The Telecoms tower in Kuala Lumpur and the highest building in the world show how stupid you are. Not only does it cause massive traffic jam, it has totally no purpose. If you need high ground for telecoms antennae a nearby mountain is there for free. This tower has no purpose from the ground up to 300 metres. Satellites make this totally unnecessary.....

TDM is trying to avoid the investigation on him on Lingam's scandal..he knows that Pak Lah in his natural fashion will allow the investigation to follow...thus exposing him and his evil deeds to the whole world. TDM wants to die as LEGEND...he fears the loss of his SO CALLED LEGENDARY REIGN ...than death..he knows that his Najib can do better than Pak lah to eliminate all evidence, cases, and filth of his past administration. he has purposely forgotten the proverb: takut kerana salah...berani kerana benar. if he is so self righteous and always project that others are so corrupted and himself NOT- then why should he fear...let the due process continue...UMNO DOESNT crash because of Pak Lah...it is GOD'S WILL...and now the time to empower the rakyat to rise ...TDM thought he can play GOD...he just couldnt believe what has happenned this year and he is now doing so many ridiculous things that seem to embarass us Malaysians to the rest of the WORLD...what a joke. IF TDM thinks he is clean in the Lingam Gate matter...then relax...BUT THE FACT HE IS THE ROOT OF THE LINGAM GATE MATTER- now he blames others and even made one opposition leader to say that it is not right to investigate TDM because it is the fault of the JUDGES that kept pressing on TDM ...but the fact is that this isnt so - AS TDM already sworn and said...no one influences him on JUDICIARY matters...he makes his own DECISION....REALLY HOPE THAT TDM BE EXPOSED FOR HIS CRIMES...in fact the whole of UMNO AND ITS COALITION PARTNERS started from Day one and overstayed for so long ...WORLD RECORD- that corrupted them so much that corruption became like an OLYMPIC competition- where politicians compete with themselves to see who got the BIGGEST SLICE OF THE MALAYSIAN / RAKYAT'S WEALTH- smaller | bigger

I would not underestimate the former premier.

He is offering a highly appealing future to an 'elite class of followers':
- unfettered cost-free entitlement to all the assets and resources of the nation,
- tiered supreme rights for his supporters,
- all peoples of malaysia to serve this elite crew's interests,
- all rules laws policies to protect their status and position and wealth,
- full immunity to any wrong-doings (passport for any crime, extortion, C4, licensing racket that you can imagine)
- free cash flow of the nation's oil reserves, and socializing all risks and costs over the entire
- strategic exclusion of all other races and peoples for sharing and participating in the malaysia's success, growth, and opportunities

Damn - that's a pretty strong value proposition if you ask me.

So how is the "majority" who have never ever seen a whisker of the above, going to compete ?

Mahathir is a Muslim and in Malaysia all Muslims are
considered Malays if they habitually speak the Malay
language and practice Malay culture and customs.

True, that Mahathir wrote Indian Muslim as his race
when entering the University of Singapore to do
medicine. This was revealed by Lee Kuan Yew himself.

But this should not detract from the constitutional
definition of a Malay. Hence, Mahathir is a
constitutional Malay.

Also, it must be remembered that the great majority of
the Malays in Peninsular Malaysia are in fact not
Malays but Bugis, Minang, Javanese, Achenese etc etc
It was the British who called them Malays. In fact,
USM has done a study on this.

Malay nationalism was something invented in Singapore
by the Kakas and the Jawi Peranakan (children of Kaka
fathers and Malay mothers) and not the other groups
from Nusantara who now call themselves Malays. That's
why Malay politics is dominated by kakas, followed by
mamaks and Arabs and not the other groups from
Nusantara who call themselves Malays.

What demonstration? Don't forget, the Tun laid the groundwork for any UMNO President to behave almost like God, e.g. the 30% nomination rule, and being able to appoint senators as he likes, and appoint whom he likes to succeed him. This is UMNO's politics, and it was the Tun who made all this possible.

So why is he grumbling about his handiwork? There is actually no democracy in UMNO. What can the ordinary members, or branch leaders do to change things? Absolutely nothing. All the power is concentrated in the hands of one person.

If Tun Mahathir thinks the recent election loss by BN is solely due to the fault of Abdullah Badawi and nobody else then he got it all WRONG.

Recent election results are due to a cummulation of NOACTION or WRONG ACTIONS by the rulling parties over the years. We are angry because of the following;

1) Judiciary issues and scandals
2) Education policy and mess created over the years. We use to be recognise by the world and an education system we can proud off. Now we have an education system which Malaysians at large are frustration and embarass to talk about.
3) AP issues. This is something should not have created. It create inefficiency, encouraged corruption and make the public to pay for it.
4) Racist. Malaysia is harmony until unscrupulous politicians play up racial issue for their own benefits and no action from government.
5) Altantuya murder. A classic case of coverup by people in power.
6) Submarine and other arms deals. Corruptions and malpractices.
7) Security issues. What many cities such as KL and JB are so unsafe?
smilies/cool.gif Corruptions. No action. Just look at what happened in Selangor?
9) Port Klang scandals. What happened to the billion of Ringgits.
10) Mix politic with religions. Why can't people be left alone to decide what they wish to believe?
11) Unfair and non transparency of scholarship disbursement, university allocations, usage of Petronas money.
12) Transportation systems that sucks in spite of billion spent.

and many many more.

These did not happen in the last five years. It was there for many years starting from Tun era. Badawi is equally responsible for no action taken when he came to power. Many former and current chief ministers, Menteri Besar and Ministers are responsible for the above.

So please do not think Malaysians are a bunch of goons that do not know what happened and who are responsible.
