BY BOB TEOH, MYSINCHEW

On the tragic night of May 13, thirty nine years ago, scores of us lost a bit of our blood but for a different reason. We are trying to fill up the fast depleting blood bank at the University Hospital in Petaling Jaya.

In the ensuing confusion, it didn’t occur to us to enquire whether our blood would go to a Malay, or to an Indian, or to a Chinese. Neither did it bother us. So long as it would help save a life, it was worth the while to give our blood. Among us were also Ibans, Kenyahs, Dusuns “dan lain lain lagi” or others. The funny thing is that all our blood had the same colour.

We were all freshmen then at the Campus next to the teaching hospital and had just checked into our respective hostels the day before. On the fateful evening, in the midst of the welcoming party at our hostel, students’ union officials suddenly stormed in and stopped the partying. It was only then that we realised what had just happened. Many of us rushed to the hospital to donate blood. Some joked that there’s too much beer from the party in their blood and wondered if it would be of any use.

At the blood bank it was a riot of a scene as overworked nurses and staff were trying desperately to organise the blood donation in some orderly fashion. As most of the staff were caught by the curfew imposed following the riots, the hospital was acutely short of workers, so again we went there the following day to help out in any that we could; at the laundry, the kitchen, or some janitorial work that had to be done.

As I sit and stare at my blood donation card from the hospital dated 13 May 1969, I wonder if we could ever learn anything from May 13.

Thirty nine years on we still hear blood curling screams of racism in the name of one’s race. They sound ever so self-righteous.

Sadder still is when I hear such racist slurs uttered by those who were not yet even born in 1969 and thus did not experience the trauma of the tragedy. There is the suggestion from some quarters that May 13 was engineered by power-crazed people to seize political power regardless of how many innocent lives that had to be sacrificed on the altars of their political agenda.

Thirty nine years on, there still exists in our midst racists screaming blue murder to the adulation of their blood thirsty mobs.

Thirty nine years ago this day, some of us had the opportunity to donate a few drops of our blood only because precious lives depended on them. Each life is precious in the sight of God. Only the ungodly would endanger such lives by their continued racist outbursts.

A very touching recollection. There were many of us like that. We only thought of saving lives.

When will we ever learn to love all God created things without exception.

BobTeo,
All our blood had the same colour. What happens when a Kayan or Iban blood is pumped into a Malay body? Let’s not get religious and talk about halal here, but I want to draw the attention as Bob Teo said, beneath all that skin, there is nothing that separates us? NOTHING. Is that loud enough?

But the resurrection of May 13 is not from the people. It is
the bogeyman of politicians, a tool of fear and even brutality. Parliament is in progress now – won’t it be time pass the law to stop all politicians retrieving that May 13 again and again? Thank you sir.

Thirty-nine years ago people were taunting each other, calling names, looking for blood and the demise of another party.

Thirty-nine years today, the same taunting, name calling, looking for blood and demise of another is still happening. So what's else is new?

Dear All,

A poignant reminder of those who died because of the colour of their skin. The same goes to the story about a Malay man trying hard to safe his Chinese wife from the mob.

To you all it was the shedding of your blood that one day surely Malaysia will come to pass where we are all Malaysians not Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban, Penans, Dusan, Kadazan, Kenyahs and many others. Umno excluded!

Thank you for sharing a poignant moment with us. For me it serves as a reminder that we are all God's children, His creation.

As I send my children and their friends to school this morning, I am happy to say that Bangsa Malaysia hopes are burning bright with them. When I look in the rear view mirror, I am happy to see an Indian, a Malay and my Chinese children all getting along so well. They are all skin colour blind. They only see each other as their friends, all Malaysians and so it is with the parents. This is the only guarantee Malaysia remains peaceful and harmonious.

May 13 to me has to be remembered as a Malaysian mistake, an immatured event that we have more than paid the price. The mistake was first made by Chinese elite who took for granted the dangerous mix of ambitions and immaturity of their clansmen and underestimated their Malay political counterparts. The Malays made a mistake of putting in place short-term programs without making sure there was an end to it.

So mistakes was made by everyone. The issue really is to put behind it and move on for the longer term.

Rememberence,yes. Closure, definite NO.

The Nuremberg Trial tried the Nazis for their atrocities. We must have a May 13 Trial to try those culprits from our neighbourhood Nazis, UMNO, who had perpetrated the mass killings of innocents on that day of infamy. TDM must of course be fully investigated for his role in May 13 which had resulted in him being sacked from the party.

Only when these guilty bastards are hung would there be any proper closure.

But, my friend, there is blood and there is blood.
In UMNO we recognize only halal blood we blessed
We would rather die now than to eventually land in hell
Than use kafir's blood unblessed by UMNO’s holy spell

We use only blood truly disseminated via official AP
Or those given a stamp of approval by an authorized crony
We need 30% bloody share to adhere to dictates to NEP
Anything less will make the receivers rather unhappy.

The blood of cina kwee can only be drawn by our trusty kris
And we would rather give the blood of the kelings a miss
How else can we maintain our racial supremacy?
If we just get our blood simply from every body?

The love of money is the root of all evils.

In Malaysia, what better way to make easy money by politically linked corruption. Money comes from Power. Easy money comes from absolute power. I seriously doubt that most of the BN politicians are in the struggle for the betterment of the country, but for their own pockets mainly.

Other statements, are tailored for this aim, political support to get more money or secure their income.

To all honest, hardworking, law abiding and peaceful Malaysians, we must by all means removed OMNOPUTRAS from governing power.

This is a regime of power-craze moronic individuals that secretly practice racist-corruptive governing system within thier close door assemblies.

They propagate hatred and racist culture in the name of patriotism but the truth is, they Omnoputras , unshamely preached narrow-minded ultra ethno blind nationalism. This twisted unholy tactics are meant for certain upper strata of the Omnoputra ruling class to suck this country wealth via corruptive misamanagement , while at the same time give out scraps to their blind supporters.

Racist-corruptive policies is thier secretive paramount objectives against innocent discriminated minorities to win a few votes from their supporter and at the same time provide power grab among its warlords.

This was the formula that fail the whole country in 1969, and may their sould burn in hell for all eternity.

A dear dear friend of mine once told me a awhile back of how while she was growing up as a child alongside her siblings during the racial riots back then. They were in primary school and were almost stoned and taunted by the 'others' while walking home - just because their skin was of a different colour. She is now a very senior director in a private firm. But to this day she never forgot the trauma and she breaks down everytime she talks about it. Very sad. I hope our future generations will never have to go through this.

The country & its people got to move forward & we need to be united to do so. While I was on overseas assignments, I learnt about being human first thereafter I never look back. The whites respect & treat me as their equal while I was working overseas. However the same can't be said of my own countryman in Malaysia, worst being the govt. This is very sad. It is surely the work of UMNO , with Harun idris as the leader.
How to get back power.
It was not the rakyat who did these, but engineered by some of the leaders in UMNO.
They incited racial enmity and got their UMNO goons to do it.

Don't be suprised they do it again to take back power.
You can see it rearing its ugly head again and again from statements given by present UMNO leaders.

They won't hesistate to do it again. They are very capable of doing it.

I remember... we heard the requests for blood over the TV so my sister and I decided we should donate. The curfew was still on but we boldly drove over to the Section 8 Police Station in PJ to ask where we could go to donate blood.

We were severely scolded, told to sit on the benches there and, some 30 minutes later, a patrol car going our way escorted us back home. We were admonished for breaking the curfew and warned to stay at home.

Many days later, my cousin, who was then with the Marine Police in Sabah, dropped by. When he heard what we had done, he too scolded us. He told us the situation was very serious and not something to play about with.

13 May was a terrible tragedy perpetrated on this nation by extremists seeking to cling to power. They should be chased to hell, where they belong.

2. A few politicians who cannot take election losses democratically and took the evil route of blaming one race for their losses with unforgivable actions (they will surely go to hell).

BISIK-BISIK AWANG SELAMAT

Awang – Ambil iktibar 13 Mei.

what i really want to see is: as some suggested, closure of this event, when DSAI comes into power, may be he could acknowledge it or something, bring those culprits (if they are still alive)into judgement, let rakyat knows the truth, and then we can leave this behind us and let Malaysia begins it's healing & move on.... so that this "hantu" will not come back & haunt us.

How painful we are when we got to know the so called racial riot in KL was well planned by certain people in umno to secure the power from Tunku.

I was born 3 years before the may 13 tragedy in sg pelek, selangor, the state which had crisis after election, with equal seats of both parties and only one seat of independent (sg pelek seat).

After the riots, it was known that finally the independent state assemblyman (lim tuan siong) in sg pelek had jumped over to perikatan (then bn) and they form the state government.

if not because of the foul play, selangor would be in the opponent party's hand...

My mum told me at that difficult time, the malays around Batu 4 and Bukit Bangkong had assured the chinese in sg pelek that there will not let riots to happened in sg pelek. thanks to god, they were really friends of chinese and we were safe...

This fact had again confirmed that the racial riots was only organised by harun, razak and other umno goons...who had rotten in the history of malaysia. smilies/angry.gif

nanakassim,

Of course there has been some change and confidence has improved, especially after the makkal sakti wave.

But the spectre of it remains and which can only be removed when there is transparency in the police, investigations of such incidences and charging those who commit these race-hate crimes. We also need to see that the police force is more multiracial, and neutral in politics. The same applies to the armed forces. Right now it looks like like one race on one side, and other races on the other side. Thats bad posturing and does not instill confidence.

How can we bring closure to this tragic episode if BN Govt does not allow the truth to be told without any varnish?? My heart bleeds for the innocent lives lost that day. Howeverr, I am NOT intimidated by UNMO's frequent reference to this black day to reign in the voters.

We are all here to save each other and our country from being desecrated by racist politicians who are only interest to save their own pockets.

I totally agree that we should bury the ghost of May 13 forever. Malaysia has no place for racist politicians and policy. Those politicians who continue to bring up the May 13 ghost will be see an abrupt termination in their political career in the next GE.

We in Sabah never knew about racism, 'ketuanan Melayu', and May 13 until Umno came to force these kind of politics on us and destroyed the sanctity of our peace loving multi-culture, multi-racial and multi-religious community.

Perhaps, many of you were there when it happened...and many were not yet born. For the latter, pls reserve your racist comments and wild allegations. I was there. I remembered. Stoking fires of hatred here or elsewhere is not the way to go. At the height of the burnings and pillaging i saw many malay families helping the other races and many chinese helping malays stranded in the streets. It is not one incident we ever want to see again.

I turned 12 years old then and you can work it out that I am those born in 1957. I remember 13 May 1957, My late father walked me to the National Registration office, to apply for my first I.C. I never knew what difference a Malay, an Indian even or for that matter a Hokkein and Cantonese meant. WE ARE MALAYSIAN. It is not how many had died and who is behind all those awful action, let GOD judge them. 39 years is a long time, NO NEED TO BRING HURT TO EVERYBODY EVEN WE DAMN KNOW UMNO WAS BEHIND THIS. The system in Malaysia NOW needs to be FIXED. Get rid of all policies that separate us, we are one. When I donate blood does matter if a Malay or an Indian or a Chinese gets it? Vice versa I have no problem. UMNO continue from the British rule by dividing the people: It continue to use all the acts of law which the British had used on us and then proudly say MERDEKA, How are we become free continue when we use the weapon the coloniser used on our forefathers. GET RID OF THE ISA,NEP,OSA and let build bridges, let build BANGSAR MALAYSIA otherwise we are nothing but BANGSAT MALAYSIA. HIDUP MALAYSIA, HIDUP RPK smilies/smiley.gif

As I send my children and their friends to school this morning, I am happy to say that Bangsa Malaysia hopes are burning bright with them. When I look in the rear view mirror, I am happy to see an Indian, a Malay and my Chinese children all getting along so well.

======

Yes, yes, until the point in time when they become aware that their friends of a different colour start getting "special" treatment and go to "special" schools then they will start asking , why, why .

Then their friends of a different colour will also slowly avoid them because some Ustaz or Ustazah had started brainwashing them.

So, one can see that all the divisiveness is started by the politicians. Little children are oblivious to all the divisive antics of the adults.

Dear readers....we must nver again accept racist-corruptive extreme ultra ethno nationalism.

The flag of Omnoputras is of blood(red) and dagger ...they have proof their evil doin in 69 and almost again in 1987 (b4 ops lalang). Rmbr, if u see this symbol...stay away...its extreme evil from the bottomless pit of hell.

May 13 of 1969 is the "darkest day" in the history of our country and it all happened because of "power", the power that some political people wanted so badly that spilling the blood of a thousand innocent lives was never a factor.

We cannot change what had happened.
But let us all Malaysians, who believe in living together in peace & harmony ( among all the races) remind ourselves and to declare that another day like May 13 must not be allowed to recur. May 13 must not also be allowed to be used as a tool of threat.
