Actually the NS is one of the way BN government is skimming this country dried. RM500 millions every years goes to the BN supporters who get the contract to run this NS program from laundry to food catering etc, everything has been grossly inflated to rich a few lucky fella.

My qualm about this NS thingie is that if you want to have NS, then do it properly like Spore. Not some half past six work.

I think the problem is with the objectives of the NS. What are they trying to achieve?

- Military reserves?
Then you need proper training and more time to carry it out. This needs to be justified on the national threat perception.

- Living skills for teens?
Commendable but this is something that should be done in schools, in the community and at home.

- National unity?
Commendable but again, something that should be addressed in schools, in the community and at home.

So what is the real reasons for these camps??? The NS should not be used to address the failures of the education system. The NS should not be used to address the failures of policies in fostering national harmony. It should have a clear and an exclusive main objective to warrant the cost and effort put in.

The Star reported that the girl died of constipation.Maybe the authorities really expect us to be so dumb as to believe that.I don't think any autopsy was done so the actual cause of death will never be known.In January this year there was a girl doing the NS near Ipoh.She had fever and stomachache for 2 days and the camp warden thought she was trying to shirk her training.Miraculously she managed to reach her parents who rushed from PJ and brought her for treatment.She underwent emergency surgery for a rotten appendix .She could have died in the camp,perhaps also diagnosed as due to constipation or "wind".That was what the poor girl who died was treated for.Not every trainee can reach their family members when they need to and certainly not every parent can rush 200 km to rescue their child.I think its high time we stop this nonsense which cost us more than 500 million annualy.Maybe just let the government distribute the money to whoever they like.We still have to spend the money but at least no parents will need to grief over the unexpected death of their loved ones.

Can you change 19years of paradigm in 1-3 months? The answer is yes only during the program...

Nothing good is gonna happen in bolehland as long as this govt remains in power. The people in charge do not have the will or desire to be better. To me, I see the NS enriches a small group of suppliers month after month, year after year - they go through the motion(s) called national service and at the end of the day, a small group of people are fat and happy with their bank balances.

aiya.. how to make money from scouting?? this is Malaysia. politicians only do things which can line their pockets. i used to stitch my scout badges on my own uniforms paid for from saving my pocket money and doing errands! i packed my own food and necessities for camping trips and learned the hard way if i forgot to bring anything. so i learned what it meant to "be prepared"

1. All opposition MPs to demand all BN MPs to show proof that they have also sent their children to the NS.. no matter what age. or demand that they do

2. If BN refuses, then all 81 BN MPs campaign for all parents who are called up for the next session simply to refuse to sent their children in.
Surely they cant find a place to jail say 2000 youths.

3. All youths called up from one state instead gather and pool their resources to sue the govt to demand proof of the benefits and demand to see the accounts and a list of contractors who are given contracts to run the camps..

4. Parents to start a campaign to demand that BN YBs kids are to be sent alongside their children to the camp and see that they participate in all programs without exemption.

5. Failure of BN to response they we threaten a campaign to oust BN from the govt without having to wait for the next elections....

NATIONAL SERVICE in MALAYSIA is a bloody stupid idea and waste of time. I am totally disagreed with how the program is managed from the people who faciliated the training (ex-army??? what a joke!, No insult, but why it always has to be ex-army?. Can't they do service not the ala-army that has caused so many accidents? Another, hiring fresh university gr*** as training facilitators? What sort of trainers are these? Why are most of the training tools and uniforms were made compulsory to source from same suppliers at a price that even at pasar malam, you can purchase at same quality and lower price?

Where are the medical assistant? Why when such accident happened, trainees are frequently sent to general hospital and discharge immediately with 'panadol' description and later ended in bad shape? Isn't that telling the whole NS management is so damned efficient even too the so-called NS advisor? How many more casualties do we need before govt gets to think that this is a small incident? Just scrap the whole money sucking NS and replace by National Community Service where trainees don't stay at camp, but at home.

Dear all MT Readers, All Malaysian specially parents...

Please support this motion. We should replace NS with something more useful like Human Resource or vocational and technical traning/courses/classes. I believe there is still "some good" in the idea of NS but the current military/police like program is not everybody's cup of tea.

If our children want to get jobs next time, do you think the future employer care if they are an excellent trainee in the NS Camp? I believe the employer will be more interested in their education achievement, experience (if any), communication and interpersonal skills.

PR / PKR / DAP / PAS - Please do something about this, please voice out this matter strongly in parliment, I dont expect any MPs from BN to voice out this matter... you (MPs of PR) are our only hope.

National is all not bad. The group concern shoul do a post-mortem.
Perhaps study from our neighbour (Singapore) what went wrong?
Was it because the food suppliers were only thinking of making big bucks and negelect or overloook the cleaniness and the hygiene and the quality.
What went into the food or foods? The freshness of the chicken, fish, prawns and etc....
Perhaps the govt should employ dietitians.
Health check should be done weekly.
I recall the story of a passenger in a taxi and he compliement the driver for his good and safe driving and asked how and why?
The taxi driver replied that he has to drive very carefully because the lives of the passengers are in his hand.
