My wife is very touched with the support shown and the solidarity demonstrated by friends, bloggers and readers of Malaysia Today. In such a situation words can never really explain how one feels. To all Malaysians, on behalf of my wife and my entire family, I would like to express our most sincere gratitude. And this comes from the bottom of our hearts.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

When the police came to my home last Friday to confiscate my computers, I was not at all shocked or perturbed. I had half-expected that to happen considering the response to my 25 April 2008 article in this same column, Let’s send the Altantuya murderers to hell (read the article here). And the response I am talking about is the public statement by the wife of the Deputy Prime Minister plus the letter from the Deputy Prime Minister’s Press Secretary (read the letter here).

As the police left my house, they issued me a Section 111 order to report to the Cyber Crime Division of Bukit Aman at 11.00am the following morning for my statement to be recorded. However, at 3.15pm that same day, they phoned me and asked whether I could go there at 4.00pm instead, that means in 45 minutes time, rather than the following day at 11.00am as originally ordered.

I phoned Sam, my lawyer, and he told me I need not comply to this ‘request’ as the Section 111 order had stipulated 11.00am, Saturday, 3 May 2008 and not 4.00pm, Friday, 2 May 2008. Since the order said 11.00am Saturday, then that is the date and time I should report to Bukit Aman and I can legally refuse to their request to come in a day earlier.

Nevertheless, I decided to consent to this request although I had legal grounds to refuse to do so. The police then told me that a police report had been made against me on the article mentioned above so they have to take my statement. I asked to see a copy of the police report plus the statement from the person who had lodged the report but they admitted they did not have it nor has the police officer who was to take my statement seen it yet. For all intents and purposes it did not exist. (Read the full story here: Towering Malays and the ‘hush’ on Peace Hill)

On Monday, at about 9.15pm, I received a phone call from the same police officer who raided my house three days earlier and he wanted to know if I could go to the Jalan Duta magistrates court at 9.30am the following morning, Tuesday, 6 May 2008. He asked me to look for DSP Mahfuz and said that they will be charging me. I asked what they were charging me for and he replied that he does not know. I then said if he knows that I am supposed to report to the Jalan Duta magistrates court and what time and day I am supposed to report there, surely he must know what I am going to be charged for. He replied maybe it is for sedition but he is not sure.

I called the police officer back five minutes later and he confirmed that it will be for sedition after all. But there are so many courts in Jalan Duta. Which court am I supposed to go to? He did not know. He said just hang around the lobby and they will come find me and escort me to the correct court.

I arrived in Jalan Duta at 8.45am, 45 minutes ahead of schedule. By 10.15am I was still hanging around and no DSP Mahfuz came to see me. One of my lawyers then went upstairs to try to find out which court my case was going to be held in and he came back to inform me that there is no case registered yet in the Jalan Duta magistrates court.

At 10.30am, I received a phone call from DSP Mahfuz asking me to go to the PJ sessions court. We all rushed to PJ and arrived there at 11.00am as instructed only to find out that there is no case registered there as well. In fact, the magistrate was on medical leave. Furthermore, no charges against me had been prepared yet.

I was asked to sit down and wait while they phone the magistrate to come back to work. They also needed to prepare the charge and register my case. It appears like they had decided to charge me first and then prepared the charge and decided which court to charge me in as an afterthought.

Under the Sedition Act they need to arrest me or at the very least issue me a summons. A summons under the Sedition Act is bailable but not compoundable like in a traffic summons. The maximum fine is RM5,000 or a jail term of three years or both. In my case, they had not served any summons, nor had they served a warrant of arrest, and my case was not even registered nor the charges prepared. For all intents and purposes, I was in court on my own free will and I need not have gone there if I did not want to.

After a lot of last minute preparing the charge, registering my case, and the magistrate on sick leave finally coming back to work, etc., they charged me, to which I pleaded not guilty. They then set the maximum bail of RM5,000.

This RM5,000 bail was absolutely unnecessary. I need not even have gone to court. There was no legal obligation on my part to do so. They just phoned me to ask whether I could go to court and I agreed to do so. I did so willingly, demonstrating full cooperation, and without forcing them to follow proper procedures. After all, how do I know who was on the other line? How do I know that this was a legitimate and not a crank call? They produced no evidence that I was to be charged and they did ask whether I could come to court -- and a question like that is open to a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer. They did not say I must go to court. They asked whether I could go to court.

So, when they imposed the maximum RM5,000 bail I refused to pay it and instead chose to be remanded until the day of the hearing in October 2008. When they asked me why, I replied that they could have posed bail on personal bond seeing how I was very cooperative and did not offer any resistance. I did not even insist they follow proper procedures but was quite willing to respond to mere phone calls.

When I arrived in Sungai Buloh Prison, something happened that put the entire prison on full alert. Sirul and Azilah, who were in the same block as me, Blok Damai, shouted for me to watch my back and that they will get me. I was quickly whisked out of the block. It seems they were angry that the Altantuya murder trial, which had disappeared from the radar screens, has now, again, been given the spotlight. Why should that upset them? Why the need for the Altantuya murder trial to disappear from the radar screens?

I was then assigned to my own cell, cell 8, and was not allowed to come into contact with any of the other prisoners. My cell door was permanently locked and whenever I had to leave my cell they would assign two or three Special Forces personnel, UPK, as my bodyguards. As further precautions, I refused to touch any drink or food as I remembered very well the arsenic poisoning that Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim suffered when he too was in the same prison.

So, from the time I entered prison until the time I walked out four days later, I did not eat or drink, which of course the prison interpreted as a hunger strike. They told me that a hunger strike is a serious crime and they could charge me for that. But that was the least of my worries at that point of time.

I met no less than five or six senior officers at different points of time who all insisted that I agree to meet my wife and lawyers so that they could arrange bail for me. I made it very clear that I refuse to see anyone because I do not want them to start crying and begging me to agree to bail as that would weaken me. If I shut myself out from the rest of the world that would make it easier to stand firm.

The head of the Special Forces and someone from the Intelligence Unit also met me to explain that they will try their best to keep me safe. Nevertheless, they can’t watch over me 100% of the time so my continued presence in prison is a great burden to the entire staff. We are on full alert and we have to report to the ministry every hour on the hour. No one can sleep because of you, they said, so please agree to bail and leave.

One of the Special Forces chaps told me to never trust anyone. Don’t even trust the men in uniform, not even if they wear this same uniform, he tugged on his shirt to emphasis the point. Your life here is worth a packet of tobacco. Prisoners will kill just for that. And Sirul (or was it Azilah?) is very intelligent, he added. He knows which prisoners can be bought and he has many on his payroll. He can always get someone to do his job for him.

Whenever I was brought out they made sure that Sirul and Azilah, and the other 18 or so police officers that are in their same block, were locked up. Once, when they brought me out, and someone in the walktie-talkie said that the two were in the hospital, they quickly locked me up and only brought me out again after the two were safely locked up. I could see that they were not merely trying to frighten me but were genuinely worried.

Look, they told me, we have only 600 men against more than 5,000 inmates. And not all 600 are on shift at the same time. This prison was built for only 2,500 inmates so we are grossly overcapacity. If anything does happen, our personnel are grossly outnumbered. And with you here the potential for something happening is very great. Please, they appealed, consider your stand of not agreeing to bail. If not for your sake at least for ours. Whether you wish to live or die is your decision. But whatever happens to you will affect all our careers as well.

Anyway, to cut a long story even longer, I finally agreed to meet my wife and agreed to my wife’s appeal that she be allowed to pay the bail. After all, a knife in my stomach would not exactly be what the doctor would recommend.

I made many friends in my very short stay in the Sungai Buloh Prison: the Indian chap who was on trial for kidnapping who kept peeping into my cell to ask whether I needed everything, the Indonesian transvestite across from my cell who kept calling me ‘sayang’ and offered to massage my aching back, the Chinese man on trial for money laundering who asked for my autograph, the air force pilot who searched all over prison for reading glasses so that I could read my books, and all the guards and Special Forces chaps who smiled and gave me the thumbs-up when I greeted them with ‘Makkal Sakhti’. And they all wanted just one thing. They wanted me home so that I can continue to write and so that they can continue to find out the truth as to what is happening in this country.

Yes, I was touched. I was touched that alleged kidnappers and murderers and those we would normally consider the scum of the earth, and all those who are guarding them in prison, know about Makkal Sakhti and want the message of Makkal Sakhti to continue through Malaysia Today. To those who are on the outside looking in, these people are the forgotten people. These people no longer exist. You do not have names in prison. You are just a number and a statistic. But when you are amongst them, you can see that they have chosen a life different from yours -- theirs is a life of crime -- but their aspirations and ideals are the same as we on the outside looking in. They too want justice, equality, democracy, freedom of speech and a better Malaysia for all.

Yes, they might be criminals. And they may be criminals out of choice. But life never really gave them too many choices. Some turn to crime out of greed. But many turn to crime out of sheer need and desperation. And these are the faces I saw in prison, faces of people whom life offered not many choices. But then one of these faces may be the last face I see. One of these faces may be that of the one sent to do the evil deed of those who feel I have brought the spotlight back onto a murder trial that was almost buried and forgotten if not for the article I had written.

My wife knows I can be very stubborn and I seldom back down once I have made my resolution. She also knows that I can marah nyamuk and bakar kelambu, which can be considered irrational to most. But the support from all and sundry kept her strong and allowed her the will to fight. She is very touched with the support shown and the solidarity demonstrated by friends, bloggers and readers of Malaysia Today. In such a situation words can never really explain how one feels. To all Malaysians, on behalf of my wife and my entire family, I would like to express our most sincere gratitude. And this comes from the bottom of our hearts.

And to all Malaysians, I also want to say that I am sorry for allowing myself to be persuaded in agreeing to accept bail. I feel like I have let you down after earlier rejecting bail and instead choosing to stay in jail until my hearing in October. Under the circumstances, why should I allow my adversaries to finish me off like a cornered rat? At least if one has to go down let it be one goes down fighting.

On the money collected thus far, if all you donors can agree to it, I am going to propose that the surplus be put into a BLOGGERS DEFENCE FUND so that any blogger who may in future suffer persecution from the powers-that-be will have financial support to stand and fight. The bail is of course refundable and can be put back into the fund for future use. And the fund can also be used for legal costs whenever we can’t find lawyers who will defend bloggers on a pro bono basis.

That is all for today. I am still slightly disoriented and my aching back is not allowing me to focus that well -- so sorry if my piece today is slightly below par.

RPK, the irony is you are getting more open support pouring all over when you are inside rather than out! If not for the threats coming from within Sungai Buloh prison, you can expect this support to swell for each day you continue to be in. Oh, what the heck, that's not supposed to be how it works. The odour of your pipe would stale the prison air and be rather unhealthy to your inmates. You bet the Malaysian rakyat welcomes you what they'd say 'Welcome, home sweet home'. BTW, your wife held up well with your daughter and we are all proud of them too. What a family.

RPK's brief detention has got it's upside too, ie the outpouring of sympathy and support, not only in words, but in action and in kind. If I were Najib, I'll be very scared, especially when the likelihood of BN being toppled at federal level is very real. I think we will only know the truth once the BN is no more the govt.

I'm touched when you relate your experience about the prisoners and prison guards inside there. You are right, some people do things out of sheer desperation and need. The guards and special force are doing as they're commanded because they still need to feed themselves and their family. Deep in their heart I'm sure they know that what RPK is done is nothing compared to what some of the politicians are doing outside the prison under the name of 'racial integration' or 'national security'. We need a brave-leader from the police force to rise against the real criminals of the country.

Secondly, I think you might be the first in Malaysia to be evicted from prison! Welcome back to the outside world.

Dear RPK,
Hey, Good chap! You didn't let us down! I posted my wish that you come to your senses to come out as soon as possible! but its good to be in there for a few days! To your beautiful idea of BLOGGERS DEFEND FUND may have certain implication! Hopefully will be good on all points! A 'CRY FOR FREEDOM OF SPEECH' or blogging campaign should be the next step to encourage whistle blowers to blog.

Expecting you to take a rest and back to your usual writing self in a few days but didn't expect it so soon.

Dear RPK,

I speak for myself here, but thanks is certainly not necessary. You may not know the majority of us here (and perhaps can't stand half of us here), but in a bizarre way, we're sorta family. And family does what it can, no strings attached.

OK, that's the first and last time I am going to be soppy...back to busting nuts.

You have my vote for the Blogger's Defense Fund. I sense a terrible storm is approaching. Perhaps we can start by helping out Syed Akbar Ali, a fellow MT comments section junkie, who is also presently being persecuted.

As for your stint at Sungai Buloh, seems to me that it was an act of attempted murder orchestrated by someone who has a LOT to lose.

And in no particular way related to the above statement, everybody please go to Toyol's website and look at his poll for who is the most likely candidate to replace Badawi:

Now go get some rest.

RPK,
Firstly its nice to read your articles again. Thanks for the first hand insight of what its like in the Sg Buloh Prison.
Secondly, you need not feel sorry for accepting bail. We didn't actually want you to stay for even a day in that kind of place. When they said the hearing date is Oct 08, it is subject to postponement as you know (something Msian authorities often use to frustrate those involved) and so, you may end up being in prison longer than expected. So, its a good move to be out.
Lastly, yes, I for one, agree to the BLOGGERS DEFENCE FUND.

Have a good rest, and then, let's continue the fight together! Makkal Sakti!!

The murderers are hoping that the case's spotlight will eventually die down. Now it's all about Altantuya...

YM RPK, perhaps many other cases, not just the Altantuya's case needs the attention of all Malaysians, some and many other cases involving the high profile, the rich & organized crime Taikos have cases which were put aside when the court proceedings are dragged too long and just died down.

People like Sirul & Azilah should not get away from the gallows, there's many who still walks free when our Kangaroo Court Judges, AG & the police are in cahoot with the big crooks !

The IGP Musang has links with underground tri*** that supported him to go up to the top. Remember that IGP Musang picked on one of the chinese triad heavenly king after the latter was realeased from Emergency Ordinance detention ? Many more to be mention and not just one case.

And with you here the potential for something happening is very great. Please, they appealed, consider your stand of not agreeing to bail. If not for your sake at least for ours. Whether you wish to live or die is your decision. But whatever happens to you will affect all our careers as well

But then I have 'known' you only 3 mths now, so when i read the comments from your seasoned readers that you must have your own reasons for your refusal, I decided to wait and see the outcome.

Its so good to 'see' you back on MT. I wish I had 'discovered' MT 3 yrs ago!! So much I've missed.

Nothing can describe the anguish you must have felt with RPK in jail. One 'good' outcome out of this dreadful ordeal is, now you know that you have a whole lot of rakyat behind you and RPK.

Good to see you sound and home.

I maintain that refusing bail would be a better choice if it is not for your own safety. Reading through your report, the situation there is worse than what I initially thought of. So, it good you are home and in your family's sight.

I begin to wonder what if you did not go th the PJ magistrate? Looks like they are actually making a fool out of you. No summonses, no fixed time, no court number and the best of all the magistrate is on leave and has to be recalled. What a circus, and a laughing stock to the international judiciary justice.

Looking at the protection you received at Sungai Buloh, I am also wondering what is actually up. You are actually having a special escort to ensure your safety against the prisoners and 18 police (prison?) officer on the block you were in. Someone ordered a special protection task on you isn't it? What's cooking, Pak Engku? A big game is brewing?

Anyway, have a good rest and write us more "saucy" stories.

What kind of lawless country is this? That a policeman could just call up someone’s home, to report to the police station without a summons and then ordered to be at court the following day, without probable cause and worst of all, without a judge's approval and no judge in attendance. RPK’s rights were violated and it is our responsibility to make sure that it does not happen again, not just to RPK but to each and every citizen of Malaysia as well!

RPK,

Your apology only make us more ashamed as I believe that none of us would do what you had done. But you had started the ball rolling and we will follow.

Contribution to Bloggers Fund should be periodically since once the gov't started their clampdowns, they will target the leaders and scapegoats. Fortunately their actions (even before this had led other countries' freedom of speech supporters to say that their countries are following Malaysia's actions) will easily backfire as their increased actions (which are exactly the opposite of their speeches) and abuses of power will only get more highlights in other countries again. Has the BN gov't no shame?

Btw, welcome back.

Dear Raja Petra,

Take comfort from these words of Winston Churchill:

"You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police. Yet in their hearts there is unspoken – unspeakable! – fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts! Words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home, all the more powerful because they are forbidden. These terrify them. A little mouse – a little tiny mouse! – of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic."

Dear RPK,

No need for apologies at all. You have done much more than your fair share for those of us less brave and less enlightened. In fact, we should be the ones to apologise to you (and your family) - for not being able to walk our talk 100% at times, for whatever reason.

We are just immensely happy and relieved that you've finally removed yourself from the jaws of such danger, and are back in the safe bosom of your loving family and trusted friends. I'm sure countless Malaysians had been extremely concerned while you had been incarcerated in Sg Buloh.

And not to bodek you or anything, but you are - most sincerely - my hero. Nobody has ever measured up enough to claim that 'title'! Thank you so very much for your unswerving commitment to integrity, truth, justice and equality for all. You are a superb role model and a true champion of the rakyat; no two ways about it!

P.S. I'm sure everyone will agree that we have yet to read any 'sub-par' pieces from you. Do have a good rest, stay safe and keep up your excellent work! smilies/wink.gif

Dear YM RPK

The very fact that not many people have seen the two murderers face sets me thinking . Everytime when they are brought to court they are covered head to toe such that nobody will ever recognise them . Further to this as you said they were very angry that because of you , the Altantuya case is now back in the limelight .

My Analysis :
There is this possibility , which I have wanted to write and share wiyh you people . Is there this program like in the USA where the Govt changes your identity completely , gives you a new face thru plastic surgery , new identity card , new passport , such that the person under that old name is completely NON- EXISTENCE . This is under the witness protection program whereby these people testify against the Mafia , etc .
But here in Malaysia , there is this distinct possibility that even though they are found guilty , sentenced to be hanged , could it also that they would be replaced by a fall guy representing them , since they are hooded , hanged inside the prison without anyone really knowing whether its them or not since no one has seen their faces . In fact all can be arranged knowing them very well , to also coincide with the execution of two others . Then these two with a miilion bucks each will quietly slipped out of the country to reside in some foreign country living a happy life all arranged , and here we think they have both gone to hell .

What say you ?? YM if not why wear the Ninja costumes in and out of court !!!

Dear RPK,

Appologies Not Accepted

You have been a burning inpiration to all Malaysians regardless of status, race or religion. We are all very relieved that you are not harmed by the evil ones. Please do not appologize for agreeing to accept bail. Your life is much too precious to be put at risk. We desperately need leaders like you to bring Malaysia forward.

The worst problem facing our resource rich country (top producer of palm oil and a big exporter of crude oil) is that the Bodohwee Najis leaders are serving their OWN interests instead of serving the people.

I believe the greatest leaders are those leaders that despite their status, they r still humble and has the interests of the people at heart. Hence they
earned the respect and the love of the people they represent. We can see this servanthood traits in good leaders like Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi and your royal highness, RPK.

smilies/smiley.gif smilies/smiley.gif smilies/smiley.gif

On the other hand, the worst leaders are those who serve their own interests such as Phillipine's ex-president Marcos, the Juntas in Myanmar, Indonesia's Suharto and the present Malaysian government & corrupted police officers. They r hated by the people and will go to hell one day smilies/angry.gif smilies/angry.gif smilies/angry.gif And I say that again, Let's send them to hell!

My dear RPK,
Your apology is NOT ACCEPTED. Why?? Because it is NOT REQUIRED!!! Nor do you have to thank us. We are the ones indebted to you. You have done us such a great service which neither I nor many/any of us could even contemplate. You are an extra-ordinary person with a great gift and you have chosen to give yourself to a rightful cause without reserve.

For me personally, your decision to post bail is not a let down. In fact, you'll be letting me down by NOT posting bail. Yes, I am a selfish arse. But, when all you have is one candle in the midst of darkness, wouldn't you do the same?

My dear RPK,
To me, you are the rallying call for us Malaysians looking for a better future for the country. Though I have given 24 years of my life to the Service, I felt so small when I saw your sacrifice and dedication and selflessness. You must prevail and continue to be our guiding beacon. Can you blame me for selfishly wanting you to be out here with us? My humble wish is for you to be there to guide us towards a better tomorrow. And, God forbid to be languishing in a prison just for not posting bail!!!

I hope and pray for you and your family to be under Allah's protection and blessing always.

Dear RPK,

To all of us, you by staying in jail has, for a while, dim the beacon of light and hope when this great nation is shrouded in darkness. However, your sacrifice is not in vain because by going in, even for a day or two, your light has outshine the entire YOU-KNOW-WHO who is shrouded in darkness.

I will also not salute you because to do so would confine my deepest admiration, trust and belief in you to mere salutation. Instead, I will tell my children and grand children who you are, what you are and what you do. Let the future generations know that we have RPK and his deeds. Soldiers just fade away but a True and Great Beacon of Hope and Justice like you, RPK, the True Hero would go down in history as the person who changed Malaysia and the rakyat. RPK, do take care of yourself in future and not succumb to scumbag tactics.

Dear God,

Watch over RPK who stands up for justice without fear or favour. Forbid it that evil will overcome him. For you are a just God. A God that hates evil. We ask that you, O God, cause those who have done evil to tremble knowing that their days are numbered. Smite them with Your mighty Hand and remove them from this land. Yes, their days are numbered for no evil shall prosper before you O God. Bring justice back to this land of ours.

May the evildoers in the murder of Altantuya, the hands that shed her blood, and of those that plot her downfall, we ask that You O God, hasten their demise. Let them prosper no more. That they may know there is a God who is all knowing. Let their hearts faint, those who have done this terrible deed. Woe unto you.

Once again O God, watch over RPK and his family. Watch over all of us who wants to see justice in this country. Move in our midst O God. Move quickly and remove the evildoers.

Let us all say together.....AMEN (regardless of your faith)

Dear RPK,

I asked an honest question to a friend of mine yesterday : will u do what RPK has done by choosing jail instead of bail when u know u may be beaten up or worse killed inside or that ur family will be worried sick about u? Will u make that ultimate sacrifice to ignite back interest in a forgotten injustice?

He paused but before he cld give me an answer I told him frankly I won't. Because I am not at the level of RPK yet. What you've done is what I wld term the ultimate sacrifice. But these r not early Gandhian times (even he was assasinated later) n in that jail there r many elements who r just waiting for a chance to finish u off.

When that happens we rakyat Malaysia will lose our beacon of truth and information. Thank you RPK for finally accepting bail because I know how difficult that decision was for u (although the fasting thingy did make u fitter figuratively speaking). Thank you for getting back to doing what u do best coz in my opinion ur few days in jail has actually given a lot of publicity to ur plight and Altantuya's. That part has been achieved so it's best if u spend time "outside" where u can achieve more for the nation.

What this episode has shown us is BN is still the same after 8th March. Leapords can't lose their spots. What this episode has also shown us is that Lions also don't easilly lose their manes. RPK u r the "Lion of Cyber Malaysia".

Dear Raja Petra,

This is my first comment posting after following MT for 1 year. I am writing from abroad. I just want to say I am happy you to see you released and wish you a peaceful rest with your family. For the ordeal you have to put through the sake of justice, accountability and democracy, you owe no own an apology. We average Malaysians and our children owe you our gratitude for standing up to what is right and even making personal sacrifices for the sake of our nation. Many of us talk the talk but only few dare walk their talk.

You are one reason why I see a glimmer of hope for a better Malaysia and am still proud to be a Malaysian.

I hope you have a peaceful rest as many more battles lie ahead.

Hello, it's the other way round - the authorities owes you and the nation an apology laaah!...

Pete was arrested under the wrong Act - the authorities don't even know the meaning of "sedition" which should be applied to Najib, Hishamuddin and the rest who incite fear, hatred and divide the nation. For that matter, RPK's arrest holds no water and does not even come under any Act!

We, the rakyat, want to know:
1. WHO gave the order to arrest Pete?
2. WHO gave the order to dispose Altantuya?

All eyes are on Malaysia again thanks to the authorities for arresting PKR. We do not wish to be known as a nation that can get away with murder. Period.

High time the authorities stopped the circus, stopped trying to sweep things under the carpet by the court delays, look within their souls and did the right thing in the name of God, King and Country.

Those who took the law into their own hands have put the entire nation to shame. Have the guts to face the consequences. You can run, but you can't hide for long. It'll all come back, one way or another. No two ways about it.

With this arrest fiasco, it also brought out louder the voice of conscience of the people to see justice done and to ensure nothing is swept under the carpet. Malaysia Today, the True Voice of the People will not be silenced. More people are standing up to be counted, taking responsibility and ownership of our homeland.

Let's put things right and move on to heal and rebuild the nation as Pete is doing and expressed in all his articles under his columns The Corridors of Power and No Holds Barred. BTW, where's the link to the archive of past articles for new subscribers interested to read them?

I note that Pete still wears yellow. Lets follow suit. Wear Yellow every Saturday in solidarity with Pete to heal and rebuild this nation together.

Pat Lu

P.S. Hi Marina, I love your love note to Pete, "I want you home"... and he's home. :p Thank God! Much love and continued prayers for your family.

Most criminal don't like to commit crime if they have food to eat and a comfortable place to stay and with a job to do. The numbers of people lockup in prison is a result of the government failure to provide a manageable living for the rakyat. Same as if my son steal I have to be blamed because I did not educate or provide enough food for him. Malaysia is rich in resources yet the people are poor. why? because 10% of the people took 90% of the country wealth and 90% of the people fighting for the left over 10%!

And there's no one who does it with as much style. smilies/wink.gif

Aiyoh, fight in court laa, why fight in prison?? I thought it was rather silly of you not to post bail and be a martyr and stay in prison till October. For what?? If it's ISA, then ok lah, no choice, can make a statement. But this, you'll have your day in court, and then you can hantam mereka kau-kau. Why endanger your health and life and suffer for nothing in the meantime? You'll get your day in court whether you are in or out of jail. You are more dangerous outside than inside, so stay out unless they force you! Lucky your wife has a cooler head and didn't let you bakar the kelambu!!

Actually when I went for DSAI's Black 14 gathering I noticed the same thing.

The police officers near me looked really moved by Anwar's speech. There were times when I wondered whether they were the government's police or Anwar's police.

So when RPK says the prison guards support him, I was a bit surprised, but looking again it does make sense.

Welcome back RPK. You could have got a lot of us into serious trouble if you stubbornly refused to post bail and leave that hell-hole.

If we riot due to something bad happened to you, and I guarantee you some of us will, chances are some of us may get killed, or seriously injured, thrown into jails, get sodomised front & back by other prisoners, gang-raped.... and you surely don't want us supporters to suffer because you want to stay there to prove a point. At times like these, better to listen to us, than to your principles. We all just want you ALIVE, WELL and KICKING ASS!

That was the reason why we are so afraid thinking you were there in the lion's den. What is there to fight for when the odds were everything against you, Pete? Please do not think that we are disappointed by you choosing to get out from there. You'll be much better fighting from the outside where all infos could be effectively made known to us rakyat in an instant.

For the first time I am writing without reading your article, but only your heading. There is no need of a formal thanks. You have done so much by giving us courage, hope and solidarity. It is we who should be thankful and grateful for all the sacrifices you have made for this nation and Rakyat.
God Bless you are back safe and sound. Take care and this is also from the bottom of our hearts. I am sure many (if not all) on this page will agree to this.

YM RPK,

And why should you be sorry? If at all, it should be us, as your suffering was much more and this was a result of speaking out for ALL of us. It is a wise move that you have made and I am sure your family and your extended family (us!) are very happy to see you safe and sound.

You will, no doubt take this fight to a higher plane and continue to fight the injustice that is happening around us.

As for the money, it is meant for you. I like to think that the rest of the contributors will agree, you can do whatever you wish with it. I don't see anyone will object to it. Anyway, YM RPK, welcome back!!!

Sorry No Cure! Your apology not accepted, so here's what needs to be done: Marina, re-arrest Pete with the following punishments:

1. House arrest for 1 week: no going out to meet people, just shuddup and rest and follow rest of punishments.

2. Daily 5 meals punishment. Must eat 5 healthy meals with lots of green vegetables and fruit juice.

3. Daily 8 hours sleep punishment. No visitors allowed to disturb during sleep time.

4. Computer usage punishment: not allowed to use own computers, must only use computers/laptops/accessories provided by MalaysiaToday readers via funds donated. MT readers reserve right to add additional punishment in form of more IT equipment to be used by Pete at anytime they deem fit.

5. Cigar punishment. Pete only allowed to smoke the best cigars. If you got to kill yourself smoking, might as well do it in style smilies/smiley.gif

more punishments to follow, Marina to re-arrest as above as often as required.

and lastly: NO APPEAL. NO BAIL!

There is no need to apologize for being steadfast, strong and gracious going through such ordeal under the politically motivated aggression by the people who are abusing the governing machinery.

If the situation is reversed where the really guilty ones are charged, the scenario would never be that gracious.

Right will always be right. Wrong will never be right, no matter how the guilty would like to twist, turn, play and delay, using whatever power they have.

All in all, the guilty no matter how powerful they are now, WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO FOOL GOD.

Yang Mulia RPK, The suggestion of putting aside the remainder funds collected for bloggers who might get in trouble in future is the right thing to do and would be agreeable to most M2day readers who supported you in your righteous intentions for the country. Funds for the purpose of charity will and has
always been well taken care of by the Malaysian public. More so, we too have the BALKIS, BAKTI and the Government to take care of charity for the needy instead of their own pockets. Go to HELL with them; charity for the needy is their responsibility. You and other Bloggers will need funds for any unforeseen circumstances and this will come in handy. If there is such an account for this fund for this specific purpose, I think many will donate on monthly basis. God Bless You and Your Family...and All righteous Bloggers who speaks for the country and for all Malaysians.

Dear RPK
Lakh Lakh Shukur Alhamdhulillah that you are safely back in your own home.

I have to tell you, in my lifetime I have not seen someone with your integrity and courage in Malaysia.

When it comes to the crunch to stand up for what is right I don't think Kerismuddin, Najis or KJ will do what you have done thus far, even if it meant saving thier beloved party. They are just hot air. You are truly a national hero.

There are lessons to be learnt from your recent experience.

You said
1)
Nevertheless, I decided to consent to this request although I had legal grounds to refuse to do so.
. From what has happened we can conclude that it does not pay to go out of the way to go along with request by PDRM.

3)
I asked to see a copy of the police report plus the statement from the person who had lodged the report but they admitted they did not have it nor has the police officer who was to take my statement seen it yet. For all intents and purposes it did not exist.
Isn't it your right to be shown the police report?

3)
In my case, they had not served any summons, nor had they served a warrant of arrest, and my case was not even registered nor the charges prepared. For all intents and purposes, I was in court on my own free will and I need not have gone there if I did not want to.
Lesson - do not go to court on your own free will. The courts are there not to uphold justice but there to protect the sorry a*ses of the "rich and powerful".

After a lot of last minute preparing the charge, registering my case, and the magistrate on sick leave finally coming back to work, etc., they charged me, to which I pleaded not guilty. They then set the maximum bail of RM5,000.
Was the police report available at this point? If not what were the police basing the charge on? Why didn't your lawyer do anything in your defence and advice you to go back since there was no case registered there in the first place. I just don't understand all this.

I will say it again, I totally admire your courage. Forgive me for saying this, but refusing bail and opting to go to jail was not exactly a very smart move no matter how heroic it was.
Although you may not have been aware of the possible threat and risk from the other 2 hooligans detained there you knew about the DSAI's arsenic poisoning when he was in the same prison. What were you thinking when you originally decided to stay in jail until your court hearing??? Everyone here was so worried for your safety.

So please here is a piece of friendly advice: no more silly heroics and don't go out of your way to coopertae with PDRM. Just go by the book.

Anyways I like thousands of others here, am totally relieved that you changed your mind and decided to post bail. Insya Allah you will become victorius in your struggle with this issue. May Almighty protect you and shower you with blessings. Ameen

Among your midst are 2 murderers who have threantened RPK. They do so because they think they are protected by the powers to be. They murdered because they followed orders. How can one do that is unimaginable? They must not have any conscience nor regard for life. And they threatened to kill again even while in prison. As RPK said, he has a lot of supporters among the inmates. And everyone knows there's a "justice" system in jails. I hope that these 2 murderers get their justice from within. They should now be watching their backs and everywhere at all times as they won't know when some Zorro will strike. I hope this information gets disseminated to the proper ears.

smilies/smiley.gif Hey there Pete..Back in the saddle again..hunh!! I'm sure you had heard it all, but needless to say..it's a really a "good" thing you're back. What really fascinates and strikes me from your very first entry..is your experiences for the short moment you were there. An Indian soul who happened to be either by choice or by force seen in this god forbidden place looking out for you, an Indonesian transvestite giving your free body massage, and a Chinese brotherman asking for your autograph. These are the mere glimpses of life pain and sufferings, and yet a little bit of compassion from your angle really made a big difference to them..I hope. I'm really touched by your move, and wish something drastic could happen where there's a win win situation for "all" of us. Once again..it's good to hear your voice again..and I don't know if you've any interest in pursuing other avenues to have your voice heard, but the blogging communities in the US as well in UK will greatly appreciate your contribution, perhaps even leading to different horizons for your passion in blogging. Pete..I see your smile on your face, and I'm truly greatful you're out with us..and on that note..here's the boy howdy and hee haw to sing.. Back in the saddle again...Take good care of yourself guy..we really miss you, and thanks for been back with us.

Looking at the picture which you were hand-cuffed last Monday, I think you really need to do some serious exercise and diet control!

BTW, what really inspired that Indonesian "man" to call you sayang and to offer you a good massage? Your charm? Your sexy bald head? Your intelligence?

Who instigated Azilah and Sirul?

In the first place they must have had access to the Internet and are avid readers of Malaysia Today to have been aware of the article. Secondly, what RPK has written are not new to them as these information has been mentioned in open court so why are they so upset with RPK?

Unless someone wants RPK in the prison to be conveniently finished off and these two would make good scapegoats. Hence they need to be instigated to be agitated enough to display their emotions openly. Thank God there are still decent people among the warders to warn RPK of this and tried to get him out safely. But I am not sure RPK is really that safe outside either. Maybe only the scapegoats may be harder to arrange. If someone can stoop to using C4s, nothing is too difficult to arrange.

Assalamualaikum dear Raja Petra,

It is indeed great to hear that you are in high spirits but more importantly safe and sound. Please take heed from this "warnings" from within Sungai Buloh and ensure that you are also watching your back when you are moving about. As much as you know, the powers that be may even be able to carry out their evil deeds since you are now out in the open.

Anyway, there is no reason for you to apologize but instead we are the ones that should be apologizing, for not being able to gather as many supporters as possible to show, indicate that bloggers and/ or rakyat will never be intimidated by all these actions. Please have a good rest & anticipating further hot, spicy articles in the very near future.

Daulat Tuanku & God Bless you, Marina and kids.

Tie a yellow ribbon for RPK and Syed Akbar Ali.

You can tie a yellow ribbon on your gate, car door handle, wiper blade, aerial etc. Let’ show support for RPK. Go out and buy a roll of yellow ribbon and cut into shorter strips and pass around to your friends, neighbours and office colleagues to do the same.

Let Saturdays be a yellow T-shirt day. Go shopping in yellow T-shirt. Take a stroll at Dataran Merdeka in the evenings in yellow T-shirt as a sign of peaceful protest.

Let's do this until the October hearing.

Pass the message on to as many as you can.

Dear RPK,
Glad to have you back safely home. Many of us were bewildered and puzzled as to why you did not want to see even Marina as well as "Mogok lapar". We do not want you to suffer or sacrifice your life, my friend. You suffer, we suffer as all of us are in this together.
Many of us were at the 9pm candlelight virgil at Sg Buloh and more would have turned up had notice been given earlier. I contributed a little bit by supplying some of the candles ( smile). There were a few ladies who composed a song which they serenaded for the crowd..wonder if you heard..
Most of us were there not for publicity or for fun but to lend you our support...that was the least we could do for a person who has given selflessly to Justice and Fairness in our beloved country.
Take a break and by George, we are glad to have you back!!

There’s reason for everything.Trust Him only.

As for the two cops who threatened youat sungai buloh, just a reminder , Don’t forget to make police report.

Physical threats by “Sirul and Azilah,” can be classified as “Malice and Threat to cause bodily harm “ and as such, a police report must be made for future reference and legal action.

Dear Brother RPK - Firstly welcome back. Now do you believe that things happen to all of us for a reason? That trip to the Sungei Buloh prison opened your eyes to a new perspective. The fact that the Police and inmates there to gave you the thumbs up means support for your cause.

You also discovered that there are two types of cops in there, many of them are just like you, they have ideals and dreams too but some are rotten and will do anything that their master's or superiors want without questions asked.

Those two involved in Altantuya's case, they probably upset that you brought the case into the light because they were probably told by their superiors that they will be let go from prison for good conduct after two years or so when the case up ends with a guilty verdict of Azilah and Sirul. You never know what they were promised, probably told to take the wrap or die!! Which would you choose if you were in their shoes?

Now that you brought it up it might end up that they will die in prison that is why they want you dead first because you cut their chances of freedom short so to speak.

What do you think will happen to Azilah and Sirul if they come out and told the truth in court? If they decide in court tomorrow to reveal who gave them the instruction to kill Altantuya? They will probably find themselves dishonorably discharged followed by the C4 treatment too.

You see our men in uniform have a code of conduct that they have to live or die with, they are trained that way, they will eat shit if their superior tell them to eat shit. I bet Azilah and Sirul prefer to live to the ripe old age of a pensioner. The problem is will we ever find out who the real killers are, who gave Azilah and Sirul the orders? This is where our people at law has failed the rakyat.

Brother watch your back, take their threats for real, because it's even easier now for bad thing to happen.

Dear RPK Sir,

Welcome home!
While we are all grateful of your return, I think we ought to look at what is likely to happen 5 months from now.

You are going back to court in 5 months time, to the best I recall, the winning chances of defendant lawyers in cases like this is one is less than 5%, if not zero. (Sorry Karpal!)This doesn't mean the defendant lawyers are incompetent, but rather no hakim will have the balls to reach a verdict of not guilty (with those correct, correct, correct arrangement of course)

Therefore, you might be sentenced to jail. Question is, how are we going to fight this one? Guys like LKS, LGE, DSAI etc all fighted like hell and ended up all went to jail (of course they are with ISA case, different from yours). We need to think hard and act now for 5 months is not a very long time, below are my projected scenarios if we were to prevail.

1. Intervene by DYMM, our beloved Agong.
2. DSAI throws out BN gomem.
3. Number 2 not longer in power.

4. Heroic judge to deliver a verdict of not guilty (sorry, I rule this one out!)

Just my 2 sen worth, take care!

What defines a leader is his attributes and principles. Many would choose to pay any amount even millions to stay out of prison, many would choose to change their stance as long as they could be spared of inconveniences but in the current age we could only see individuals very rarely opting prison solely for principle.

I can't predict the future, but if history were to retain in Malaysia I'm sure at least a page of notes stating " there was a man known Raja Petra who was born as royal, dedicated his life and fought for the rights of Malaysians to freedom of speech and common justice." But there will also be another stating how the top people in power misused and abused their power and how the innocents were victimized by them. Raja Petra, those in power now and us may not be around to see that but our chidren and grand children will be there; the difference is while RPK's will be proud, the others would be full of shame.

You have nothing to be sorry about. Remember, we need you to be healthy and be around for many many years to come. You are more effective alive and out here than sick and in there. We know you did it with your heart and we trust your heart.

I am not sure what is your objective of opting not to be bail and go to jail. If your intention is to bring visibility of this case to more people around the globe, you have met the objective 100%. The news spread like wild fire around the country and the globe.

On the donation, we have contibuted and we leave it to you to decide how you want to use it. No restriction. Suggest you use part of the money to buy your self a good notebook, change your other computers if necessary. Suggest you establish a permanent bank account for all of us to donate to you to pursue making Malaysia a better place to live. We want you and your family to be free from any financial difficulty. We do not want financial distraction in your pursuance of your goal, which is Malaysians goal. So keep the door open for more donation as you will need alot more money in future.

People in power are making a mockery out of our law in the country. They twist and turn it into whatever shape they want to suit their own taste. You were put in prison because they want you to be in prison. Period. If they had wanted you to be free, they would have done it also. As simple as that.

They are worst than women..(sorry if l offended the women, not all women l may say.. ha ha ha )...

You drive slow..they said drive fast..
You drive fast..they said drive slow..

You make it tall, they want it thin..
You made it thin..they wanted it tall again..

You painted it blue..they want it red..
You re-paint it red..they want it yellow.

You got it medium..they want it short..
You try making it short..they want a long one..(this is for Rosmah)...

Ordinary folks like you and l are like a cucumber and a durian, roll over either way...the cucumber will get hurt.

Firstly, we are all glad that you are out. You'll never know what can happen in Sg Buloh Prison. Take the example of DSAI. You will be more effective outside rather than inside.

Secondly, we, the sensible Malaysian citizens owe you 'SO MUCH' that you need not thank us but we thank you for coming out.

Thirdly, no apologies is required as you did no wrong.

Lastly, the country needs you more outside than inside. We need to pursue the course of Reformasi for the betterment of each and every of our countryman ASAP. For this, I hope the sooner that PR secure the FG, the better it is for Malaysia. We are a vital link for this materialized.

We are always with you All The Way, Sir RPK.

Please do not apologise for accepting bail. We all wanted and wished that you would accept bail and get out of there...for very obvious reasons. You have championed the nations cause for freedom, transparency, accountability and against corruption. This is a God given role in this our poorly misguided country and that you shall show others the path too.

strange it is i see how justice works in this country. ppl who are fighting for a good cause for the benefit of the rakyat is being sent to the jail??? ppl like rpk, hindraf 5 and many other unsung heroes who fight the ruling party is sent for detention. But if you look at most of the be end leaders who are full of corruption and abuse the power like nobody's business, are called VIP's and having a cozy life & never have to suffer like the unsung heroes..STRANGE ISN'T IT????

Instead, we have to be sorry that we are only a bunch of cowards and selfish beings who have no BALLS to speak out for justice and freedom.

As the saying goes- when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Kudos to the Petras. RPK, you should not apologise for accepting the bail. Instead, you should apologise for not coming out even earlier ! I read from somewhere that "The journey of a thousand miles doesn't start with a single step. It started under your feet already, you just have to realise it" And to the Fellow bloggers, MT readers and General Public, we will walk with RPK and his family, regardless of whether small or big step. RPK, you will not be alone. Thank you for everything.

Good to have you back RPK. I think the greater good will be served by having you on the outside than the inside. Having worked with prisoners for the last 13 yrs. that wasno idle threat indeed a life is worth only a pack of tobacco sometimes even less.No purpose will be served by your death
Dont apologise for letting the community down,we rather have you outside than inside where your access to people on the outside will be limited.
Pls.take care as Karl Marx said the pen is mightier than the sword.

You have never let us down! You did the right thing! If you remain in detention, we will be left in the lurch and helpless.

So no apologies please, we should instead apologize for your detention! There are a lot of things we could have done that would have changed for the good cause but we have failed as voters.

Dear YM RPK,

It doesn't matter really so long as you are safe and sound. You are fighting for justice afterall. I am disappointed when you refuse to post bail. To me, it is better for you to continue your fight from this platform (for now) as it is your domain and comparative advantage...smilies/smiley.gif

As for the rest of the funds, your decision is a wise decision. I was more for the funds to be used to buy new computers and upgrade your website but clearly your present choice is a far wiser and selfless decision.

If I may, I would suggest you open the fund for further donations.

Thank you once again for revealing the truth.

Will support you always (am so glad I have the car sticker and proudly displaying it!)

Dear RPK,
You are one who rarely backs down, as you said, and it appears that yr wife is yr leveller(& I'm sure it's vice-versa). Like in this case of accepting bail. In my opinion, I strongly believe that this was in the best interest of the prison officials, guards, your family and the public.

It is a harrowing experience for any spouse who supports the others cause/quest for truth, esp. in Malaysia where the law is used/may be used in any contorted way. In yr case, it looks they did not know what to do really. No police report from the other party to start with.

God is with you. I thank God and God Bless those prison individuals who saw sense of what cause and effect would take place if they kept you in there. You have summed up nicely of the people you saw in there.

The affected and the ignorant are just being uncomfortable with the truth period. God help these souls.

I see clearly that trials and judgements follow those who seek to walk God's path. I shall continue to pray that God protect RPK and those others who seek and endeavour to walk HIS path in the interest and betterment of ALL Malaysians.

God Bless Malaysians.

Better late than never - for both your agreeing to bail and me being a late commentator here. Trust you have rested well. You belong there, at home with your family, and behind a computer, leading the fight for truth and justice. Just continue to give them hell!

And you can do whatever you like with the money collected. We know you will put it to good use. Just don't buy no police officer a beer with it!

Dear RPK,

The fight shall go on. Never retreat till the last drop of the blood. We fight for justice, and it is a great job in Islam. To fight for justice is an order by Allah to all mankind. If we don't and injustice ruled, they will be great disaster awaiting us. But fighting for justice is never been easy and pleasant one. All Prophets elected by Allah swt amongst their missions were to restore justice and never been easy for them. There were those been murdered, their he*** been sawn, they have been isolated, boycotted, taken away from families, jailed and war declared upon them.

This is just a minor test, a test so that you would come out stronger and braver. What is that 2 days as compared to 6 years by DSAI for no reasons at all. Hassan Al Bana, muslim great scholar, was hanged. So Imam Ahmad b Hambal was jailed, so Nelson Mandela for 20 over years, so Martin Luther King, murdered and many more fighters for justice.

All these seditious crap, is nothing and I am sure you shall stand tall just like DSAI after this. Even if you die in the struggle for justice, as a Muslim you are promised by Allah with great rewards. Nothing more happier life of the afterworld than the present, but we can't leave behind a world with dirt of injustice without fighting in any way within our strength.

Take an example of the famous story of Prophet Ibrahim as, when was thrown into ragging fire, there was a little bird (burung pipit)who took some drops of water by her mouth and dropped them from the sky. Ask Angel why the little bird was doing this whereas those drops of water shall dry up even before they reached the fire. The little bird said that that is all she could do to save Prophet Ibrahim as but to Allah it was a great deed and she would be able to answer her contribution in front of Allah later.

Pete, Thank God you're out. Your worst nightmare in the cell is as worst as in our mind thinking about your safety. I have done all I could to campaign for donations to bail you out in Sabah, KK in particular. Your idea of setting up Bloogers Defence Funds (BDF) is highly laudable....but who will manage those funds when the amount grows big. Can we have board of trustees ?

It's very obvious that those who weilds power is seen to have pressed for your arrest instead of coming up with a proper charges...instead of the implicated person coming up with defamation case, a third party moron came up with sedition case....what sedition case ???? A prosecutor blindly creating a case and yet doesn't know what he's up to even. This is Polis Raja Di- Malaysia.

Dear RPK,

Justice will not prevail if the oppressors are still in the helm of powers.

I have not doubts that this case may involved some hidden 'skeleton in the closet' issues which may implicate some top guns in the government. And they will do whatever neccessary within their powers to keep it wrapped as it is.

As a citizen of Malaysia, we have the right to know the truth and we want to see justice prevail.

May God continue to grant you the strength and wisdom to continue your fight against injstice and truth.

Kudos to you, RPK.
