(The Star) - MALAYSIA has about 500,000 active bloggers, ranking the country among the highest in the world after Indonesia and the European Union, Utusan Malaysia reported.

According to Universiti Malaya media department lecturer, Dr Abu Hassan Hasbullah, this showed the power of blogs in influencing the thinking of the people, especially about politics.

He said blogs currently had a wide reach considering how many Internet users visited these sites everyday.

“Our research shows that 70% of the election results were influenced by information in the blogs,” he said.

Dr Abu Hassan said the ruling government could use blogs but pointed out that it would take a long time for it to be popular.

I beg to differ. It would be an instantaneous hit IF they allow comments and publish it too.

Hear our voices. Our angry voices !!!

What research? Where did the figures come from? Hope Abu could enlighten us. Supporting the BN lost cause on why they really lost by recruiting an unknown academician (comedian) to publicize a fictitious figure.

Hi Pete, what about offering Malaysia-today to them ??
I suppose BN will be willing to pay you really big big money for this... smilies/wink.gif smilies/grin.gif smilies/grin.gif smilies/grin.gif

I can imagine.. a BN blog ? all the goodies about their leaders, even bad news can be seen from the bright side, right ? ..opposition bashing...in short, mirror of Star, and NST.

Please don't let me know what blog address. I might throw out my last week's dinner if I read it or worse, my notebook might end up smashed up.

As I have said, most Malay academician still has the most unprogressive mind in Malaysia. In the first place, the media and the press should be independent. The journalist should be independent. And all news should be publish base on facts.

Malay academicians are the obstruction for Malay race to be progressive.

I can't remember where I read this (but it was somewhere on the net).

It said that Korea were the top bloggers and I remember that S'pore beat us in the ranking.

So how did they come up with the ranking for the study that was done and where can the listed rank be seen?

Hi MALAYSIAN... it's time for you to voice out. Now our voice being hear!

Send email to Tony Phua - MP for PJU
http://tonypua.blogspot.com/

There are now 82 opposition parliamentarians as opposed to 140 from Barisan Nasional. What is more interesting however, is that there are 67 front benchers (i.e., Ministers & Deputy Ministers), which leaves 73 backbenchers for the Government. That means that excluding the Ministers, who are often absent from Parliament, you may end up with opposition parliamentarians outnumbers those from Barisan Nasional. That should certainly be interesting ;-)

The first session of the 12th Parliament will officially commence on the 28th April (Monday) with the swearing in of the new MPs. The session will last for a month til 27th May.

The second session will be held over 23 Jun to 15 July, while the 3rd and last session for the year will be held between 18th August til 11 December.

My first task at hand is to submit 15 questions (10 for oral replies and 5 for written) to the Parliament secretary for replies by the relevant ministries by the 8th April (next Tuesday).

So for those with key questions of national interest which you'd like me to bring up in Parliament during the question and answer sessions. (Note that the questions should be fairly specific and directed at a particular ministry) ;-)

i don't believe 500,000 is a realistic figure. it's very difficult to calculate. how do you know that a blogger is from malaysia? maybe he's a foreigner who's vacationing in malaysia? or an expat? or maybe malaysians just registered for blogger account but never ever use it? or maybe just one post per year? or many even use it as an advertisment page.

this article is TOTAL CRAP

the Umnoputras may be having the most expensive communication and computer systems in place at each of their homes ----- wonder if their children ever login or know how to login and use the systems to tell their leader fathers and mothers .

The fact is --- if they had ever accessed these things --- they would have done better on the 8th without opening their rotten mouths in the wrong places --------- oh yes !---- they may be only seeing the stock movements , and checking their bank accounts , for money transfers etc !!!!!!! the reason i say this is ----- with reference to the comments of some of the so called leaders of the Country about blogging , internet and the negatives they spoke about it .

A little child today who accesses the net at age 5 would become a top PC specialist---- thats the crave etched of the wonders of the web, and here we have half baked politicians saying the opposite ------ no wonder they spit out rot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those who are familiar with free market principles (the BN certainly aren't), it would be very simple. Saturate the market (the mainstream media) and other competitors would simply go elsewhere (the internet).

cheers

BN will never be able to use blog, they will be worst off becasue they could never be able to honestly answer questions and no reliable topic that benefits them. They can't bring up corruption as a topic, they can't bring up efficiency as a topic, what can they talk about?

This is plain BS - as if .... we have lots of "perasan" people talking crap to inflate egos and advertize the "IT revolution" as a result of "BN policies".

Anyway, Malaysia has the only Plastic Toyol in the world with a blog, and claims to be a blogger without really saying anything in it!

Half a million bloggers??? This guy is nuts or what? Or he simply plucked figures from the air.

Anyway, what do you expect from a cheap comedian who came from a half-past-six university with no ranking?
