Joint Press Release of 10 MPs In Wilayah Persekutuan PDF Print E-mail
Posted by admin
Wednesday, 26 March 2008 12:20

The 10 opposition Members of Parliament (namely Bandar Tun Razak, Batu, Cheras, Wangsa Maju, Kepong, Titiwangsa, Lembah Pantai, Bukit Bintang, Segambut and Seputeh) met last night (25-03-08) at Federal Hotel.

The following resolutions were unanimously resolved:

  1. We, the 10 opposition Members of Parliament in Kuala Lumpur, note that two months prior to the 12th General Elections (GE) DBKL was very relax in taking actions against the hawkers, petty traders, DBKL tenants and others.

  1. We also note that immediately after the completion of the 12th GE, resulting in the clear rejection of BN by the KL residents, DBKL swung into actions to victimize and/or punish the hawkers, petty traders and threaten to victimize and/or punish the DBKL tenants in the opposition held constituencies, for the miserable performance of BN in the GE.

  1. We strongly condemn DBKL for involving itself in politics and taking such concerted actions to victimize and/or punish the hawkers, petty traders and DBKL tenants for exercising their democratic rights in the 12th GE to elect the 10 opposition MPs from PKR, DAP and PAS in Kuala Lumpur.

  1. We call upon the Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur to immediately stop the political actions in victimizing and/or punishing the hawkers, petty traders and DBKL tenants for exercising their democratic to elect the MPs of their choice.

I believed if what DBKL did is just enforcing the law, then it is fair. No one should be above the law. But if what the DBKL did is punishing those traders way above what is required by the law than there is a case for us to take necessary action against this abuse

Any possibility that the running dogs of the old regime can be replaced? Their sudden enthusiasm leaves a lot to be desired. Like their old master they too need to be castrated.

1) Get the head honcho out. The officers are only acting on instruction. It quells all punitive revenges on the poor people.
2) Go for local council election. Get them to work their worth.

I'm seeing the days of Lee Lam Thye era now coming back and being carried out by the People's chosen REP. Lee LT was the Hawkers' champion irrespective the races in KL. Great Job and good move to stop the 'tic for tac' tactic by DBKL. The mayor must be sack too.

Dear Shamadz72, its very glaring why they did that. Once they do not get what they want i.e. the hawkers and traders vote, they will go and make things difficult for these innocent victims. Thats the practise in every election. We had cases before in Sarawak when civil servant who was suspected of voting for the opposition were transfered to the interior away from their families. Even canteen operators had their licence cancelled. All this is no better than day light robbery!!

Though the people of Kl are under represented because there is no adUN for KL, 2 of the KL reps are part of Selangor State EXCO. They should form a Similiar Exco for KL and run KL like a state. Whats the point of winning the KL when its run by Zulhasnan of the Opposition in KL and Mayor who dont give a damn.

Its time Kl citizens take Back Kl into their hands through their MPs. This is a superb showing by KL that they reject BN but BN still controlling Kl through proxy. its most unfair and most indemocratic. bring back the local town council elections and let The MPs voice strongly in the selection of Mayor. why should KL be neglected?

Pah Bodoh, you sid you will listen. This is not listening. Punishing voters for exercising their legitomate right right is not listening. YOu and the UMNOputears will be blown away in the next election. Citizens of KL, just be patient.

As pointed out by someone here, we also have to observe the law. If action is being taken because the law has been broken, we have no grounds to protest. Where it is unjust, fight them all the way.

With 10 out of 13 parliamentary constituencies in Wilayah Persekutuan being held by the non-ruling government, it seems a very odd situation that the adminstrator of these areas is an appointed minister from the ruling government. How can this MP's collectively have a say on the policies in the areas that they represent without having the authority to shape the policies? Can anyone shed some light on this in from the legal aspects of it? Personally I find this situation very odd as the majority voice is governed by the minority.

The residents of Kota Kinabalu are facing bigger problems, hawkers in and around the city are monopolize by illegal immigrants.DBKK is fully responsible for this and the Mayor should be SACK for encouraging and allowing this to happen.
But,oh yes slip my mind, the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu is related to the Pakistani Musa Aman. The "FILIPINOS"now are MyKad holders and protected by these BN morons.

Perhaps our BR MP"s could lend a hand by speaking for us in Parliament. We don't trust BN MP's in Sabah, this could have change had Sabahans voted them out.Sadly this didn't happen, hence the Sabah Syndrome of Corruption and Greed.

We thank you in advance YB BR MP's.

I guess I am wrong about the 90% not only they are bad/corrupt but also idiot/arrogant/ignorant and still thinking they are going to win everything back in the next election.
What make you think by punishing the rakyat is going to make you get elected again in the next election. Don't forget you lost five states and alos the 2/3 majority in the Parliment. If you are not careful you guys are probably going to be history.... smilies/angry.gif

Any lawyer here?

Want to know if there is a legal way to sue the DBKL and declare them ILLEGAL ?

The people living in KL are also citizens of Malaysia. They have all the rights the rest of Malaysian citizens have. They ought to have the right to NOT BE HARASSED by the DBKL.

Any lawyer here can help out, please?

Thank you !

KL is wilayah persekutuan. KL is under the Federal Government, just like Labuan and Putrajaya.

Because of Mahathir, the people in KL have lost their right to govern themselves. They have NO VOICE in the running of their own city. It's the Federal Government that is calling the shot.

That is why, we have a "Minister for Federal Territories" and then a DBKL, all appointed by the Federal Government, and all are cronies.

Still remember the case where hawkers have to pay RM4000 to a big-shot's son just to get a place in KL to sell things during the Ramadhan, several years ago?

That happened precisely because KL is under direct control of the Federal Government.

Again...we the oppossition the professional. Put those people under Inquiry and if they are not doing their job as per their role and responsibility we should ask them to resign and if they do not then we sack them all. UMNO/BN still thinks that they can act like in the past. As they are all living in the PAST just like KERISPUttING with his Keris....
WAKE-up UMNOputras just be what the BR leaders are. Cukup lah wang yg kamu dah corrupt tu. It the money is not yours please leave it alone and let it grow for the benefit of the country and its' people. Not you guys Ninkampoo.....
Sacking them maybe to harsh but give them more responsibilities and spend more time in the field and make reports. Or lets put up the CCTV all oveer KL and monitor them...

I find it very frustrating that we, the rakyat, cannot do much other than voice our displeasure at the public officials who are arrogant or corrupted. From city councillors to the Prime Minister, surely there must be a way or a process whereby, the people can maintain the right to recall or impeach the public officials for non-compliance with the aspirations and interests of the people.

We scream, yell and shout for Abdullah to step down as PM, but nothing much we can do beyond that. It's just plain frustrating. Recall the PM. And if the Datuk Bandar of KL is not reining in those DBKL officers from harrassing the petty traders, and they are found to be vindictive in their actions, recall the Datuk Bandar.

How come we cannot do something like that? Can some legal brains provide and insight on this? Are there any provisions in the Constitution for such?
