This election may end up the dirtiest ever in Malaysian history. But let us the rakyat show the powers-that-be that we shall no longer tolerate the rigging of our elections and the denial of our fundamental right to free and fair elections. We refuse, any longer, to be robbed of our right to determine the government that will rule over us

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

At 3.00pm tomorrow -- Friday, 22 February 2008 -- BERSIH is organising a rally at Batu Burok in Kuala Terengganu. This rally is even more important than before considering the Twelfth General Elections is now upon us and many incidences of fraud have been detected all over the country.

Malaysians love screaming about satu bangsa, solidarity, and all such slogans. Well, let's not confine ourselves to just screaming empty rhetoric. Let's really show solidarity in the spirit of satu bangsa in support of those who are putting life and limb on the line in Kuala Terengganu tomorrow for the sake of a better Malaysia.

Wear yellow tomorrow. Make tomorrow a YELLOW FRIDAY. And at 3.00pm tomorrow, come out from your homes and offices wearing yellow, stand on the street, and make your presence felt. Or you can get into your car, switch your headlights on, and drive around the block while honking your horn. Whatever it may be, just show solidarity tomorrow, in particular at 3.00pm.

Of course, if you can make it to Kuala Terengganu at 3.00pm tomorrow that would be even better. If not, then show your support from afar by just wearing yellow and at 3.00pm do something as a mark of support.

At 11.00am the following day -- Saturday, 23 February 2008 -- we shall be launching the PEOPLES' DECLARATION at the Blog House in Bukit Damansara in Kuala Lumpur. The six political parties who have endorsed the declaration will be invited to attend together with civil society movements, NGOs, and members of the blogging community. Those interested to witness this event are most welcome (address: no: 66, Lorong Setiabistari 2).

Lunch will be served and we have prepared seats for 100 people. If the crowd exceeds that we may have a problem but I am sure you are not coming for the food but to see the birth of a united opposition and a better Malaysia for our children (and as for me, grandchildren).

On Wednesday, 27 February 2008, Blog House will be organising a MEET THE CANDIDATES session. The time has not yet been confirmed but considering it is a working day it would probably be at 8.00pm. This election will see the most number of bloggers contesting, so Blog House would like to introduce all those  from the blogging community who will be contesting the election.

Of course, there are 505 State seats and 222 Parliament seats (total 727 seats) up for grabs but Blog House is only focusing on the candidates from the blogging community, which may prove to be quite a number in the end. Never mind if they are Barisan Nasional candidates or opposition candidates. All will be invited and all are welcome. So, if you want to meet the candidates who are also bloggers then stay tuned for further announcements and keep your Wednesday night free.

Then, on Saturday, 1 March 2008 (1 week before Polling Day), we shall be organising a MEET BARISAN RAYKAT function. The time and place have not been confirmed yet. In this function we shall give the members of BARISAN RAKYAT an opportunity to talk to the people and explain their policies and strategies in the event the opposition coalition forms the government, whether at Federal level or in one, two or three of the States. There will also be a question-and answer session for participants to ask the members of BARISAN RAKYAT anything that may be of concern to them. Stay tuned for more details.

Many incidences of fraud have already been detected all over the country and this election may yet prove to be one of the dirtiest ever. A team of lawyers is being set up to gather evidence of fraud/vote-buying and to file an injunction to stop the 8 March 2008 general election. There is still one more year before an election needs to be called so the election should be postponed until the electoral roll can be cleaned up and the phantom voters flushed out. If not, the opposition can garner 60% of the votes but Barisan Nasional will still form the government, and probably with a two-thirds majority as well.

The team of lawyers is offering a reward of RM10,000 to anyone who can deliver evidence of fraud and/or vote-buying that leads to a conviction. I would do it for free but if some of you are more concerned with filling your pockets rather than fight for a better Malaysia -- just like the Barisan Nasional politicians we are trying to kick out -- then this is the opportunity for you to make some money.

If the coming general election cannot be stopped and it still goes on as planned, the team of lawyers will then use all the evidence of fraud and or/vote buying to file election petitions immediately after the election to get the courts to declare that particular seat where the evidence has been procured as null and void.

So, keep your eyes open. Gather as much evidence as your can. Documents will be good but if you saw something but have no documents to support it then your testimony in a signed Statutory Declaration or Affidavit will do. We shall inform you later where to send your evidence or who to meet to get your Affidavits drafted and signed.

Yes, this election may end up the dirtiest ever in Malaysian history. But let us the rakyat show the powers-that-be that we shall no longer tolerate the rigging of our elections and the denial of our fundamental right to free and fair elections. We refuse, any longer, to be robbed of our right to determine the government that will rule over us.

Me too. I will also do it for free. I would assume evidence of vote buying and abuse of government machinery comes into effect after nomination day. I would assume Ministers using official cars and helicopters would count as abuse.

This is a very good idea. It is amazing what a mobile phone can do for you these days; video, audio or both. Be creative!

Also, it is time to have more 'Lingam' like videos on YouTube. It is time to ridicule BN, especially UMNO for all their misdeeds.

The RM10,000 reward will certainly raise some eyebrows - yes, for those who do it for the money, at least it is worth their while.

Sell this strongly in Sabah, to the less educated in the interiors - they are the ones who are exploited every GE. They get chicken feed 20 bucks for a vote. Tease them with RM10k and let them do the evidence gathering - we need it on video! Time to nab the bastards who buy votes!

Is there resources on the net that we can read "election rules". I think we need to know which is fraud, which isn't.

Gotta catch them red-handed.

Gooday Pete,

The other day I had a friend complaining that despite registered to vote at a Post Office online on 16 Oct 2007, her name was not in the voting list and on enquiry was told that the registration up to Sept 07 is the cut off. Any registration thereafter is not entitle to vote this coming election. Although I know the voting list need to be gazetted before allowed for vote I think in this age of computerisation she should not be disenfrancised just because of this silly rule.

Can anyone help?

No need for monetary incentives. Booting BN out will be the biggest reward for everybody; except, of course, the BN bootlickers. Everyone seems to be trying to put their sons to take over the so-called dynasty, esp. CSL, Ling Liong Sik, OKT (brother), AAB (SIL), Lim Keng Yaik, Zak Deros, etc. etc. Get these BN goons out and bring in the opposition. It has happened in Australia, Thailand, Pakistan; we can do it!

Can I suggest that Meet Barisan Rakyat be made a nationwide event so that people outside the Klang Valley can also participate and take ownership of the campaign.

The component parties of Barisan Rakyat have the resources to do this. If they seriously wish to tap the immense energy available in Kuasa Rakyat, this is a golden opportunity. Identify suitable venues in each region and let the Rakyat meet their prospective Wakil and ADUN.

If the Rakyat can see the forces of Barisan Rakyat thus united and coordinated, it may well stir a response that can blow BN off the map!

Wouldn't it be easier to get all Oppossition Parties NOT TO CONTEST. Trying to get evidence and produce them in court would sounds like It Looks like Me, Sounds Like Me But I can't be sure it's Me ! Moreover, they can then change the Presiding Judge as many times they so wish.
If we want to tell the world, then if there is no oppossition contesting, I'm sure the whole world will KNOW. smilies/grin.gif

Along these campaigns, The Barisan Rakyat must set up "TV election entertainment centers" and publicize via VCD players of their election message. (similar to shops screening wrestling shows). This is economical, effective and just spontaneous crowd.

An effective mechanism (I think); any suggestions or comments.

This is amazing. Thank you RPK, for this incredible effort at making the elections clean. I did mention about class action against the Election Commission, but this is the procedural beef of it, which is by far most important.

The cash incentive will certainly make more voters attentive. May I suggest going one step further that instead of having just 1 group of lawyers offering RM10,000, we should let this opportunity spread with multiple groups of civil society offering cash reward as real evidence.

This is it guys… We have to do it and not just talk about it. Let’s give the UMNO goons and BN’s Versace clad low-life’s a run for their money. Let the other part of Malaysia know that something will happen. The other part is not us, nor is it the ruling government but the rest of us Malaysians who has no clue or zero interest in where the country is heading to. You want us to yellow..? Hell, lets paint the streets yellow.

I work in the main road in Bukit Bintang. I am so bloody wearing tomorrow. Ask your friends or family to come out at 3. They need to know that something is happening. You want us to vote opposition..? You bet your last dollar we will. You want us to film corruption and malpractices…? Sony’s camcorder division is going to see a rise in revenue. You want us to speak and have the balls to say enough is enough..? We will risk mouth arthritis speaking about the truth forever..!! No more excuses..! No more bullshit..! No more lies..! Enough is Enough, Vote BN out..!

Let’s not depend on the rest to do something. This is for the average Joe(people like me) out there reading as well. Let’s go crazy on these assholes. We have to be heard..! BN, get out.. ! BN, Get Out..!!

Not even close to nomination day, and bn mobile containers are already being placed on road shoulders of real busy roads. Complete with banners, flags and posters. Impossible for the local authorities enforcement officers to miss them. Dirty indeed.

Nothing wrong with offering cash rewards, and claiming them for a job well done. I would take it and hand it over to our barisan rakyat leaders to distribute among the needy.

The Barsian Nasional candidates are already setting up operation centers with flags and billboards/posters of their candidates all over the country. NO ONE is a candidate until they file their nomination papers and their nomination papers are accepted and not rejected. Photograph these, and immediately after the nomination closes, you have 2 hours to file a BANTAHAN to get the candidates disqualified for breach of election rules. Billboards/posters of candidates can only be put up after Nomonation Day and after the nominations are accepted.

I call upon groups of professionals, lawywers, doctors, accountants, etc., to get together to set up joint bank accounts (to demonstrate transparency) and then publicise these so that the rakyat can donate towards the legal effort. Though the lawyers may be prepared to work pro bono, they will still need funds to photocopy documents, filing fees, stamping fees, etc. Let this be a rakyat's 'class action' suit of sorts. This will be like the rakyat taking the cheats and frauds to court (SPR included).

Calling all lawyers and Malaysian Bar Council members who wish to offer their services and join the team of lawyers preparing civil suits and election petitions to get in touch with Harris Ibrahim (Sam). We need as many lawyers as possible from all over the country to help file these election petitions. There are 727 seats (Parliament and State combined) being contested so we can assume that there would be something to challenge in each and every seat.

Is there a collection of topical and compelling videos available that can be downloaded and burned into CD for distribution? This can be our answer to the onslaught by the MSM. Video is a very powerful medium.

I have already done this with the Makkal Sakthi video. I'm sure I can trawl the WWW for other clips and put together a better balanced message. But someone who is already doing online videos would probably do a better job than I can.

If these videos can be made available online, the power to download, burn and distribute will be multiplied.

The opposition also need rebranding. Calling themselves the Alternative Front means that well... they are simply an alternative to BN. You think rebranding is unimportant? That's where you are wrong. Calling yourself BA will lead others to think that your agenda is simply anti BN and your policies are simply counter to them. What the opposition needs is to create a united front not just an anti BN front but an alliance where they can stand on their own based on solid agendas. Show the people that they stand for the country such as rebranding to Barisan Rakyat (to show they carry the Deklarasi Rakyat if they decide to carry it) or Perikatan Malaysia (to show that they want a united country).

Then later...
written by delCapo, January 11, 2008 | 15:45:56
For a start, don't us e the name Barisan Alternatif... the word Alternatif, in my humble opinion, makes one feel like u don't really have your own ground, but just a flip-side to others...
a name like Barisan Rakyat maybe more powerful..

Which was later picked up by... cruzeiro, January 11, 2008 | 19:28:09 in a following post.

If the term was created somewhere else, then I don't know anything about it. But before that I have not heard of Barisan Rakyat being used. Next thing I knew it started appearing in this site and also in articles' titles. Simply interesting to see how things can evolve on the net.

All the best to all candidates. For those candidates who can't access to a large number of their voters, make full use of the opportunities. Come prepared and act professionally when faced with the public. Answer questions as if your bread and butter depends on it. What I hate is when people yurn up for presentation unprepared.

On further cursory web search, Barisan Rakyat has appeared on the net since 2006. A poster called LB posted this idea on Anwar's blog dated 01/01/2006.

http://anwaribrahimblog.com/2006/12/01/ke-arah-memacu-barisan-rakyat/

It sounds like the beginning of an idea here but still not a rally cry for the opposition then as elections were perhaps far from the public's mind.

The BN goons are under attacks from all fronts.

Can we invite foreign observers to ensure a fair, clean and transparent election ?

I call on all true Malaysians to open-up the minds of your friends and relatives on this election.
This government has destroyed the future of one generation. Please vote to safeguard the future of our next generation.

I have suggested before and I will suggest again.

Please compile all the wrongdoings and misdeeds of the BN into a VCD and distribute to the people to see and judge for themselves.
The cost is minimal and will be an effective means to transmit messages to the people.

There is no way the opposition parties can fight the BN through the mass medias.

What we are up against is not easy. Their machinery is bigger, heavier, and waaay MEANER!!!! It is about time to show THEM that BLOGGER's world and POWERs are a force to be reckon with. Let us support the call of Raja Petra like we did when we did OUR BERSIH walk!!!!!

We may think we are a minority in the cyberspace. But think again, how much do you think Colgate spent on advertising that their products are HALAL. Why were Colgate sales effected? They had to come up with an Islamically inclined ad similar to a Zaitun ad just because of the deteriorating sales of a TOOTHPASTE. That is millions in print and media ad. New ad, new billboards bla bla bla..
How much did it cost them do you think??
How did it all started?

ALL BY THE POWER OF EMAILS. It all started by one email to another and it passes by words of mouth. And it affected one of the longest selling brand of TOOTHPASTE in the country. Now people that is only TOOTHPASTE!!!

Think of what we can do if we start spreading the TRUTH!!!! We may not have much but INFOMATION IS POWER and that is what we have.

Dear people, I am just saying "Let's fight!" I did not say, "I guarantee we will win!" So we die, so what? The important thing is we die figthing, not die running away. After all, we all have to die some day anyway. Why not we decide when and how?

whoai nasi lemak... i think u better stay in brickfields and remain a nasi lemak seller... if 10 Million, let me rephrase 10 million, that is 6 zeros after the the digit 10 ok, sepuluh JUTA.... if they voted for opposition BN will still win? I think u are crazy!

Msia only has 22 million people, half of them are maybe legitimate voters.. Msia doesnt hv a population of 1 Billion like China.. if 10 Million voted for opposition, Lim Kit Siang or Nik Aziz will be President of Malaysia..

YM RPK @ Barisan Rakyat Supporters,

Yes, THIS is it. I have been waiting for a positve action plan like this. As regards the " around the town free drive, I have previously also suggested that we first fill up our petrol tanks, stock up our cars with enough supply of food and drinks and fly yellow rags as flappers on our car before we drive. There's no telling on how long we are going to be stuck on the roads. As for the collection, I am prepared to contribute a token RM 100. See you all at the various events.

Hi Guys,
I did send an email to RPK way back on 29 Nov 2007 after the HINDRAF rally mentioning the need for an United front for the Oposition ie. The Peoples Front(Barisan Rakyat). I am Happy that it has become a REALITY Thanks to RPK & Company!!Keep up the Good work!!However I believe the term Barisan Rakyat may have been floated around even earlier but never really took off before 2008!!
Excerpts from my e-mail to RPK:
Dear Mr Raja Petra,
Just wanted to share some of my thoughts with you. Based on the 2 demonstrations in November 2007, we can see that there are lots of people who are dissatisfied with the BN Govt policies. However I fear that the opposition groups & NGO's may get too caught up in the hype and spend too much time condemning the Govt policies and continue too many street rallies instead of emphasising what they actually want & stand for.Furthermore street rallies alone will not guarantee the people's support in the coming election.

Currently there is no United Forum/Channel to inform the people what are the views/official stand of Opposition Groups & NGO's regarding various issues affecting the country.Every group seems to be saying their own thing and there are too many divergent voices being heard nowadays.Even Barisan Alternatif does NOT have a common Manifesto for the elections!!!

What I am suggesting is setting up a forum/website to Unify all those voices. We can call it The People's Virtual Government and and the members can call themselves the People's Front(Barisan Rakyat). ........"

Lets make BARISAN RAKYAT the voice of the PEOPLE and send a loud message to UMNO-BN!!

If giving red-pckets (money) & other gifts constitute fraud & vote-buying, then there should be a lot of photographic proof in the local newspapers. Newspapers are still carrying news of political wannabes distributing gifts and money in red-packets although Chinese New Year season has officially ended after the fifteenth day. Even ex-ministers & assemble-men are still doing that.

Why the hell are all you people arguing about who said what first…? Who gives a shit…? I mean, here we have a piece talking about solidarity and then we have “respected” contributors slowly negating everything they have said or stood for all because everybody wants to be given credit on who came out with the “Barisan Rakyat” term.. Gosh..! I am bloody disgusted…! Why can’t you people just say the Rakyat came up with it – end of story…. Idiots I swear…

Anyways, what’s the update..? I just came back from the main road in Bkt Bintang. I think I saw like 3 people stand outside wearing yellow (myself included…). How is it in Terengganu? Updates please..

Dear RPK

The demonstrate should be repetitive , you dont' worry about barriers . Me and whole of Malaysians who love solidarity on this bless land support the demonstrate . No BN but yes BR ( People's Front ) . I did'nt vote any political parties this 12th election although I registered as a voter . If Barisan Rakyat can become true as political party I wanna be a member . smilies/grin.gif

hi RPK/fellow concerned M'sians,
i hear that the ballot slips this time around will no longer bear serial numbers. while it seems to offer more privacy to individual voters, i fear this departure from standard practice is intended to facilitate ballotbox-stuffing by the EC in favour of BN.
can anybody here verify if this new practice is indeed in the cards, and if so, how may we take steps to mitigate or close up this loophole for potential electorial fraud?

The "Britain did not want Malaya to gain independence until unity" line is made up of half concealment and half myth.

There were already numerous cross-community actions, not least the 1947 Hartal.

What the British wanted, as most of the Western powers at the time, was a right-wing party to fight against Communism, which was the biggest of every evils for them then.

cheers

Demonstrating solidarity should be done on the day of election progress . From there , solidarity become uphold and restore peacefully . Futher more , on the day of election progress , all Malaysian will come out to voting and they might stuck with solidarity demonstration and chose to vote or not .
