UMNO Pahang in large-scale stealing of flood relief aid PDF Print E-mail

In another estate area with almost 600 Indian flood victims, the UMNO 'volunteers' delivered just one sack of rice to be shared by 600 Indian estate workers and their children.  Many of the Indian estate women became hysterical and screamed how 600 people were going to share one bag of rice.

By Little Bird

Today, Sunday, 23 December 2007, we were in Pahang helping a NGO with flood relief work. We collected food and blankets from warehouses and trucked them to a distribution centre. From there the supplies were bagged and packed up. Other volunteers and village people then came to pick up these supplies. Over the past six days, many of the volunteers had been working until 2.00am packing and sending the flood aid directly to the kampongs.

The mainstream media like NST, Star and Utusan Malaysia have been making false reports that all the flood relief work is going on smoothly. This is the farthest thing from the truth. There is widespread stealing of flood aid going on in Pahang, carried out by UMNO Pahang in a very systematic and organised manner.

In Temerloh, two trailers full of rice went missing three days ago. The two trailers were despatched from the Bilik Gerakan Banjir or Flood Relief Operations Centre which is manned and run entirely by 'volunteers' who are from the UMNO Bahagian Temerloh. Rice wholesalers in Temerloh informed our staffers that some people came by later and offered to sell them a lorry load of rice at 'half price'. More on the modus operandi of this stealing later.

NGOs have also stopped cooperating with the UMNO run Bilik Gerakan after a very sad and disgusting incident. Staffers from different NGOs had accompanied some of the food and other flood aid from the Bilik Gerakan to some villages. At one particular badly hit area, people of all races, i.e. Chinese, Indians and Malays, lined up to get the food. However, the UMNO 'volunteers' informed the people very crudely that the food and other flood aid was only for the Malays. The Indians and Chinese did not get any. The staffers from the NGOs which included Indians, Chinese and Malays were shocked and left in disgust.

In another estate area with almost 600 Indian flood victims, the UMNO 'volunteers' delivered just one sack of rice to be shared by 600 Indian estate workers and their children. The sack of rice was left at a flood relief centre located in a Tamil primary school near the estate. Then the estate workers were asked to initial a list acknowledging that they had received a complete set of flood supplies (rice, oil, canned food, sugar, salt, bottled water and blankets). Obviously the remaining supplies had been hijacked by the UMNO 'volunteers' and sold off for cash elsewhere.

Many of the Indian estate women became hysterical and screamed how 600 people were going to share one bag of rice. The next day when other volunteers went to the same Tamil school, the Indian women screamed at them and said 'Melayu jangan mari tolong lagi'.

In other places the aid was given to UMNO members only. Other Malays, especially known Pas supporters, were denied aid. These stories are not being made up. They are first hand reports from Pahang that were told to us by flood relief workers themselves.

In another area, about 250 Orang Asli were promised 50kg bags of rice. This was clearly a false promise because most of the rice was delivered in 5kg or 10kg bags. The rice destined for the 250 Orang Asli was despatched by the Bilik Gerakan but it never reached the Orang Asli. When the UMNO ADUN from the area visited the Orang Asli the next day and inquired if they had all 'sudah makan', they jeered him and said 'awak semua penipu'. Again the rice had been hijacked by the UMNO 'volunteers' and siphoned off elsewhere.

For the first seven days of the floods, the Member of Parliament for Temerloh, YB Mohd Sarit bin Haji Yusoh (Tel. No. 03 - 77266005 and 03- 7726 4468, address: Pangkal Melati Sdn Bhd, No 18-1, Jalan Wan Kadir 4, Off Jalan Damansara Bypass, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, 60000 Kuala Lumpur), Anwar Ibrahim's one-time political secretary who became a millionaire within a couple of years, was missing from Temerloh. He had not visited any of the flood affected areas. Flood victims put up a banner in the Temerloh area asking 'YB where are you?' This banner was later torn down by the Police. All this news was not reported by the mainstream media.

The Chinese MCA ADUN from Mentakab has been one of the few Wakil Rakyat doing the rounds diligently in the flood affected areas. The Malay UMNO ADUNs have made themselves scarce or helping themselves to the loot from the Bilik Gerakan.

Because of the dishonesty and outright stealing by the UMNO 'volunteers', flood victims are very angry and tensions have been high in the affected areas. The mainstream media have not reported that when Fu Ah Kiow, Deputy Internal Security Minister and MP for Kuantan, visited the affected areas, the flood victims screamed and threw stones at him. The Deputy Minister had to leave the scene in a hurry.

Here is how UMNO Pahang is stealing the flood aid. They are using the Bilik Gerakan or Flood Relief Operations Centres which are manned by 'volunteers' from the various UMNO Bahagian. These UMNO runners control the lorries and also the list of recipients in the various areas. More importantly, they are in charge of purchasing the food supplies. The millions of Ringgit of taxpayers' money that is being dumped by the Government is channelled through these Bilik Gerakan. The UMNO 'volunteers' are asking suppliers and shopkeepers to issue them false receipts overstating the money that is being spent. For example if a 5kg bag of rice costs RM10.00, they ask the shopkeepers to write a receipt for RM60.00.

This means that upfront they steal RM50.00 of taxpayers money. Then the rice is stolen or hijacked and never delivered to the flood victims. Instead, the rice is taken and sold elsewhere for 'half price' like RM5.00 per bag. So, in total, they steal about RM55.00. The rice never reaches the flood victims. This widespread stealing by UMNO Pahang has been going on in Temerloh, Pekan and other areas in Pahang since the floods began.

Malaysians will be totally disgusted that things like this are going on in this country. But the worst is not what is happening on the ground in Pahang. After I returned from Pahang today, I visited the 'Portal Rasmi Negeri Pahang Darul Makmur' at this location :

http://www.pahang.gov.my/index.php?option=com_poll&task=results&id=21

This is the official website of the Pahang State Government. There, in the corner of their official website, the mother f*****s are running this opinion poll about the worst floods to hit Pahang since 1971: "Does flood effects our national economy?"

This is exactly the stupid English they have used. Grammar tak betul and wrong spelling.

Who gives a shit now if the floods 'effects' our national economy? Are the flood victims being helped enough or are they being fleeced?

Anyway, the total votes cast in this asinine poll is 30 of which 25 (80%) answered yes, 5 (16.7%) answered no and 1 person (me) answered 'No Comment'. P*ndek was not available.

A few NGO's and good Samaritans are doing a wonderful job contributing money, food and clothes and delivering them directly to the flood victims. The Orang Asli are especially grateful for the clothes that have been provided to them by one group of NGO volunteers from Kuala Lumpur. Honest and hard-working volunteers of all races, Chinese, Indians and Malays are still on the ground in Pahang helping flood victims of all races.

The flood waters have receded substantially in Pahang. Kampong people are able to start their lives again, tapping rubber or restarting their small businesses and so on. The best aid that is required now is cooked food. Kitchens were submerged, gas and dry firewood is still not available and stoves are all water logged. People still have problems cooking food. Mobile kitchens or volunteers who can cook and distribute food are still needed in Pahang and elsewhere. Temerloh is less than two hours drive from Kuala Lumpur. Please pass this information around.

Not surprised about the food supplies being 'hijacked' and sold to third parties for a profit. It has happened before. This is the kind of society that the UMNO government is breeding and yes the Pahang Government website's English version is a real embarrasment. The operators should be sent back for English language classes. But this started since the 1970s when the Education Ministry disbanded the Overseas Senior Cambridge English levels in replacement with the Bahasa Malaysia.

When will they ever learn?

As long as UMNO is in power, aids in any form will be hijacked. Still can't forget what happened to aids for the tsunami victims back in 2004/2005.

Thieves and robbers masquerading as helpers. We can draw many similarities between UMNO and the Triads which we,Malaysians are all too familiar with from watching movies.

Who else would have allow the triad chief out of jail if they are not actually buddies?

Robbing relief for the sufferings? Nothing new. It happens shamelessly all the time. This are the 5 times a day people and they would be the first to proclaim their superiority as a race, defend their religion.

Something that falls into the category of "Ethnic Cleansing" - as HINDRAF claims.

The NEP (1971-1991) - was formulated so that economic & wealth distribution - would cover all races - and no distinction between the race and their vocation/job they do.

But we can see how - it benefited one race many times more than the others....
and amongst/between the Malay-Muslims -- only those of UMNO & proUMNO gets the most benefits!

This Little Bird's article - shows how the NEP & Ketuanan Melayu abuse(s) -- has double & keeps on (re)doubling as time goes by.

Apartheid! - of the UMNO kind!

I suggest that the NGO's are well equipped with camcorders and cameras in order to provide real time information without filters through the mainstream medias. Only this way can the truth prevail. Unless of course the Government even deny that the recording is true or it has to set up a commission ala Lingam to verify the authencity of the tape!

It is disturbing to learn how low can some people go. We don't need Robin Hood. We got a bunch UMNO hood will rob the poor and feed the rich. How do we work this out? If we look at the other flip of the coin. Someone must be buying the stolen goods.
You have to ask yourself. The people that buying are just as bad as the people that are stealing.
If we can't stop stealing at least stop people from disposing them.

Hi, if you are upset about this. Do something. Organize a pick-up truck of rice, water, and canned food (sardines, ikan bilis, dried fish, etc). Send them to the Orang Asli villages, the Indian estates, the Chinese New Villages, the Non-UMNO villages. Even the UMNO villages, I m certain they dont get everything. Only certain items. Lets show them that "Civil Society" looks after all its SIBLINGS.

" ...... large-scale stealing of flood relief aid"

There are ample & enough evidents & proof to warrant an investigation under the Penal Code
for theft.

ACA can investigate this case under "fraudulent claims". ie falsified receipts, etc, etc.

Can somebody lodge a 1st information Police Report ?

Hello, I'm a regular reader, but first time commenter. The reason I am commenting here is because a member of my family is slandered in this article and I feel it is unfair for me not to comment.

My name is Razman Mohd Sarit, son of the Member of Parliament slandered in this article. Why am I revealing my own identity here? I don't think it is fair that my father is slandered as he is a dedicated member of parliament of Temerloh. Sometimes I feel that he loves the rakyat of Temerloh more than he loves me and my siblings, and I feel it is not fair that the author of this article to comment him in such a way, that belittles his dedication to the rakyat of Temerloh.

He spends at least 4 days a week (sometimes even more) in Temerloh, come rain or sunshine, for the past 20 years. This started when he was ADUN of Semantan and he still goes back regularly, missing important events in my life, e.g. first day of school, countless sports and family days. He also did not want to attend my graduation at the University of Birmingham in the UK in 2004, for fear that he might not be able to go on his normal rounds in Temerloh, but was persuaded by my mother to come.

Whilst I cannot argue about the 'large scale' stealing of food alleged by this article, I would like to implore that Mr/Ms Littlebird, please quote your sources and not leave them anonymous, as it is impossible to confer the truthness of your article, hence jeopardising the credibility of this article.

However, the main and only reason I am writing this comment is on the matter of the "missing member of parliament for the first seven days" issue.

I strongly disagree with this matter.

In the name of Allah Almighty, I can attest that my father was one of the first in Temerloh when the floods occured. We live under the same roof in KL, so I can certify that he was in Temerloh when the first news of flood in Temerloh reached us. He was not "missing" from the scene as was allaged by this article's author. I take slander or fitnah as a serious issue and this is a blatant fitnah.

Mr/Ms Littlebird, even if you are not a muslim, where is your sense of moral dignity?

This is the first and only time I will comment on this blog. If it is deleted, than you are censoring me, and I believe your site is for freedom of opinions.

its good that there is still the community spirit between the rakyat..and during natural disasters like floods...we all gather to give a hand to those affected...that is what a healthy society will do...being responsible for each other...

until of course we have vermin among us who like parasites.. rear their ugly heads to pounce on the unfortunate..feeding their grotesque forms with the life-blood of their victims...
somehow i surprise myself in NOT being disgusted or surprised when i read this article...wonder why?

perhaps becos none of these stories of abuse and blatant stealing by those in authority from the community or the country...surprises me anymore...

if u analyse the umno-foodchain...those at the top have their billion $RM projects to steal from..the low(er)scum do have to cari makan...and where better than when disasters stike...

one can have all kinds of video evidence of the pilferage...and do u really think Krisshamudin and the like r not aware and even condoning this action?

do remember my breathen...this is systemic and institutionalised stealing...everyone of those leeches have to survive...

and what can we do about it? not a lot...but we must as suggested by a contributor here...to get out there...with our own trucks filled with food..and hand out to our fellow rakyat..the sustenance they need desperately...irrespective of race or creed...

we know we cant rely on the authorities for anything...we have to take action ourselves...

owing to geographical contraints...i will not be able to turn up with the aid...but if there is a charity (not linked in anyway to the state or national govt) where i can contribute some monies..do let me know...

also...while we are all working our arses off to help our rakyat in pahang... i wonder what the sultan and his family r doing to help? perhaps we shouldnt disturb them while they enjoy their christmas holidays abroad..all safe and cozy..while his peoples lives r wrecked and made worse by his state govt who are supposed to be there to HELP them in their hour of need...

may GOD help us all...

ps. why bother with taking the matter up with ACA...they r in the UMNO-foodchain and therefore benefitting from this anyway...

Dear Aexis,

Maybe perhaps you ought to address this issue with your dad and have him give you a reasonable respond that you can accept - and report back to us MT readers. I'm not doubting your fathers 'dedication' to the job, but it would be nice to hear his side of the story regarding this issue... This will make some healthy conversation/debate - since we have a direct source from the MP.

As a anak MP - what are you doing on your part in ensuring all is fair in this issue? Since you have the direct link in debunking this whole issue? Again, how sure are you that Littlebird's sources are really slandering your dad's reputation? How sure are you that your father is really the first one there, unlike stated otherwise by littlebird?

Do please enlighten us here... We would like to know. Also, admins, perhaps you can get littlebird to clarify this issue with us here?

I still remember last year's flood disaster in a Johor. Some policemen on duty were bringing back provisions like Milo, condensed milk, biscuits etc, as well as, "kain sarongs" donated by companies and individuals for the flood victims back into their homes for their families and friends! I was so shocked that these people who were supposedly safeguarding and distributing these rations to the flood victims were instead pilfering from them. I will not be surprised if they even sold them to the shopkeepers at low prices and keep the $$$ for themselves as they were on duty for several weeks during the disaster. Just like our politicians, "Harapkan pagar, pagar makan padi". That's just the bottom of the chain...can you imagine how much they can "steal" at the top......

Hello readers,
Please do not side track the issue. If the report and finding by Little bird is correct...it is a shame and degrading act on whichever party or individuals who have hijacked needy relief supplies for flood victims, regardless of race, religion or creed. What is happening to this country? Where is the moral obligation and conscience? If people want to steal or make money from such desperate situations I do not know what else is going to come out of our country.

The best way for you to find out yourself whether what have been said is true or not is to do some simple arithmetic by extrapolating how much your father wealth at the moment versus his supposedly salary as an ADUN. Please listen to the "common people 's views". -

" STOP " repeating your 20 years mistakes --

Tun Dr M exploited these AF weakness before.

The present leadership will definitely ,secretly welcome and pray that the AF will repeat their mistakes all over again. History always repeat itself unnoticed.
A few news postings indicates this tendency to repeat one's error all over again...-

BN versus AF ( alternative front).

1. If DAP is tipped to "perform better or 99% sure win " in that "Parliamentary" or "State " seats,
"PAS & PKR should not field their candidate there".
To do so would confuse the common people and dilute DAP (AF) chance to win both seats.

2. If PAS is tipped to "perform better or 99% sure win " in that "Parliamentary" or "State " seats,
"PKR & DAP should not field their candidate there".
To do so would confuse the common people and dilute PAS (AF) chance to win both seats.

2. If PKR is tipped to "perform better or 99% sure win " in that "Parliamentary" or "State " seats,
"Pas & DAP should not field their candidate there".
To do so would confuse the common people and dilute PKR (AF) chance to win both seats.

The common people want the AF to win . Since the Alternative Front ( AF ) are members of DAP, PAS, PKR,
it make no sense to confuse yourself . The common people know what they want.

Important factor to take note. -

Those who take part in all the last few " peaceful" demonstrations.
Please do not offer yourself as candidates. You can be "disqualified at the last hour" when the "Enforcement Agencies" may find faults and charge you in a Court of Law.

Technical disqualifications means BN win Parliamentary & State seats uncontested. Easy victory to BN .

Remember the last few General Elections.

A huge number of Parliamentary & State seats were granted and bestowed to BN on a golden platter, all due to AF carelessness, filling of forms in errors.

As a precautions, to avoid technical disqualifications, field or allow "single alternative Independence candidate" from parallel or same party to contest. Withdraw from GE if main candidate is not technically disqualified.

Remember the common rule .

" Do not and never try to confuse the common people ".

Never underestimate the common people' views....
..

If General Election is held any time in gloomy 2008 , BN sure "Lose 51% " seats at all level.

If the General Election is to be held in " May 2009, 17 months from now", the AF will have a very hard time. The economy may turn around and improve in 2009..

good and wise advice dear 'wisdom above'....

for that to happen we do need the AF to be united and have a common gameplan

it is convenient now to have BN in its sights...to deny BN the win...but do they trust each other enough to be a Front..which means fighting TOGETHER...on the SAME side...watching each others backs...and allowing each other the space and opportunity to win the seats contested...

that will be a major challenge...

and once BN is denied the majority then what? the 3 parties have such diverse objectives...will the Front be able to then direct the govt for the good of the rakyat?

it would be a disaster if after pipping BN at the post...the AF then disintegrates into disunity...macam 3 hungry dogs fighting for a bone...

have we got current leaders in the AF who r matured enough to discard egos and ambitions to stand united as AF WITH the rakyat...all the way to the finish?

to lead the nation from the brink of bankruptcy(if not already!!!) and destitution of its people...

changing the tide from Malaysia for the UMNOputras to Malaysia for Malaysians...

r we ALL grown up enough to make that happen?

i wonder...i really sadly wonder...

dear aexis..would u please do that for us? we r not questioning whether your dad is an honourable man who cares for his constituents...we r asking u to throw light on a puzzle which baffles so many of us common folk and that is...

HOW DO CIVIL SERVANTS AMASS SUCH INCREDIBLE WEALTH WHILE THEY R IN POSITION OF AUTHORITY(AND AFTER) IN A VERY SHORT TIME?

we all know what civil servants r paid...do u mean to say that these very honourable civil servants have SUDDENLY gained insight into financial investment strategies which would be the envy of Warren Buffet himself?

also its intrigueing that u r upset and responded about your dad being one of the first in Temerloh when the floods happened and totally ignored another of Little Birds points that your dad was an Anwar advisor who accumulated great wealth in record time during his tenure...

r u only accusing Little Bird of fitnah on the point of your dad being in Temerloh and not absent as claimed...and ACCEPTING the fact (and therefore not slanderous) that your dad made millions while in the employ of Anwar?

its such a shame that these matters have to be discussed in bloggs and hearsay...

u would feel totally 'in integrity' once u have cleared the air...if your dad did really make those millions by being a shrewd investor..with his hard earned civil servants gaji...then i take my hat off to him...and u can then walk tall...being the son of an honourable man...

wouldnt that be wonderful? u dont have to cower and hide anymore?

u r right aexis when u said in your comments...about 'moral dignity'...

strip away all our pretences...wealth...egos...facades... what really counts is...our moral dignity...

Sigh - so name one politician who is poor! Surely one is not expected to take a vow of poverty when one becomes an ADUN - though that is probably a good idea. The issue here is not whether an ADUN is rich/poor, the issue here is does the ADUN do work FOR the rakyat. The issue here is what should an ADUN do when he is aware of blatant criminal acts in the name of the government! Has it become the culture for an ADUN to turn a blind eye to stealing from the people by the government? Is that what is written in the government's book of politics binding on all ADUNs?

Concepts of honour, respect, duty is viewed in a different light by a politian.

Assallammualaikum saudara Razman Mohd Sarit,

I salute you for defending your dad. I just wonder...did u grow up following your dad in his political works? I am sure you have seen the kind of people in the UMNO grass roots and middle leaderships. Your father might have done his job but his followers might have shit him all the way... If you and your father thinks that this is a defamation, investigate and catch the culprit and make known to the world at large... You and ur dad dare?

I hope you're not spitting up in the air which might fall back on ur own face.

Teo Swee Chin, nobody is expecting them to be poor (since their salary allowance they are entitle is more than what average Malaysian is getting) but as long as all their income when they are in office can be accounted for as obtained through legitimate means than that is all that we are asking. That is what I means by extrapolating their wealth against their income. I hope that wording is not that difficult to understand. Isn't it? smilies/grin.gif

Inspirasi, you are right there. This dude is only concern that the 'Little Bird' is wrong since he claimed that his dad was the 1st person to be there. Whereas the real point that the 'Little Bird' is trying to highlight as in the title of the article is "UMNO Pahang in large-scale stealing of flood relief aid". That is what his main concerned should be smilies/smiley.gif

ahhhhh Shamadz72 - you expect them NOT to be business-savvy then ? There is no denying the better contacts, better exposure, better chances of success in ventures once a position in office is secured. It is not wrong for them to capitalise on that so long as their duty to the rakyat is not neglected or worse abandoned in the pursuit of personal wealth. But humans being what they are, the richer they are, the greater the possibility of losing their humanity. Such is the power of money - something tangible: you can touch it, feel it, count it! Only a rare man is content with only patriotism, dedication, care and concern for the rakyat - rarer still a man who is in office.

Dear Aexis,

I'm following this thread very closely and like everyone here - very eager indeed to hear your response from you... are you keeping to "i'm not gonna post anything.." BS here?

Your silence from this issue speaks volumes and also discredit your fathers 'honor' - MT is a crazy place, i'm sure there are a few readers who thinks:

1. your a cyber-trooper
2. your dad bought you off with the latest BMW
3. ISA has gotten your whole family for being honest with integrity
4. another all talk no action post. complaining and condemming

pls enlighten us?

teo siew chin wrote..'It is not wrong for them to capitalise on that so long as their duty to the rakyat is not neglected or worse abandoned in the pursuit of personal wealth.'

im sorry siew chin...its ABSOLUTELY WRONG..to capitalise on your position while u r there to serve the rakyat...

why is one there firstly? for wealth accumulation or to serve the people...u cant do both!!!!

abuse of power is WRONG...probably even haram (can someone confirm this?)

a man cannot serve 2 masters...

it seems that a large majority of those in power r there to abuse their positions and amass personal wealth...and then im sure there is a small group who r there for the right intentions...but canot buck the trend...which isnt just a trend but a juggernaut of a tsunami wave of nepotism..corruption and abuse...

im sure these honourable men are not happy being tarred with the same dirty brush...but what is sad is that they didnt do anything about stopping this tirade...

'what can one small person like me do...all by myself..' is probably their cry...beating their chests in despair...

i will say it again...this is systemic and institutionalised corruption...it takes a very very strong person to fight it...

question: how do u fight a cancerous system that has spread from top to toe?

answer: to stop it spreading we chop off the toe...or indeed the top!!!!!

inspirasi - u are "correct, correct, correct". When u seek high office, u r pay a high salary and it also comes with all kind of perks. U r expected to serve the people, not to serve your own agenda which is basically what most of our politicians r doing right now.....and worst of all, their families and friends are also included in their fray to enriched themselves. The rakyat ended up losing on both ends....paying their high salaries plus perks and getting cheated by them. "Harapkan pagar, pagar makan padi!"

Well, this goes to prove a point that even if you are not high up in political office, joining politics for the ruling coalition side still pays.. it's a really good strategy to recruit rent seeking members

Aiseh mana sudah si anak tu ah? Hilang dan membisu pulak

anak MP Temerloh bila kena suruh banding kekayaan bapanya sekarang berbanding gaji tiba tiba terdiam pulak?

Kenapa tu?
