Let's make the boycott of Batu Caves a success PDF Print E-mail

Malaysians together, let's send out the message loud and clear to the Ruling Administration and to the Temple Authorities that we can no longer be pimped by the small scraps that get our thrown our way.

It has officially been declared a Public Holiday for Thaipusam, for Federal Territory and Putra Jaya. Why has it take 22 years for this announcement to be made? Do you recognise the complicity, merely to win the ballots this election?

Word has spread among the Indian Community to boycott the Thaipusam celebrations at Batu Caves, we hope that the significance of this boycott will reach out not only to the Temple Authorites but also to the ruling regime. Malaysians, it is time for ALL OF US to stand united and ensure that we make this Boycott a success. Don't let apathy and complacency take over us, for this is what the administration wants from the people.

Looks how they are doing their best, employing the telephone providers, media, to make certain that this boycott is a failure. Have you noticed how the phone companies have been employed to send us messages reminding us of the celebrations at Batu Caves? – such wasteful expenditure!! The media is already publishing that the event is going to be a success.

Fellow countrymen, it is up to us to make sure that this boycott is a success. Do we have it in us to spread the word out to our relatives and friends as to why it is necessary to stay away from Batu Caves?

Primarily to send out a strong message to the Temple Authorities of their deplorable act of calling on the Police/FRU who water cannoned and tear gassed the unarmed devotees. In addition to arresting 31 of them and charging them with murder, caused undue suffering and agony to affected devotees and their families. Not to mention, imprisoned the leaders of the movement rather unfairly under the draconian ISA.

For years now, we have seen these temple officials being arrogant towards the devotees, these so called temple high priests are also embroiled in politics and charging high fees to the devotees performing their vows. It is timely now, to send out message of disapproval from the devotees who have been loyal to the temple thus far. The Boycott will cause further embarrassment to the ruling party and to the temple authorities for their act of betrayal to their people.

This message should go out to the ruling regime, especially to the MIC, that its time to stop pimping the Rakyat for we are tired of being scammed with little scraps to appease us. There are more important issues than for the PM to celebrate Ponggal or giving a Public Holiday for Thaipusam.

How come MIC can get approval for the assembly, on 20th in a show of support to the PM, when Hindraf, Bersih, Bar Council and candle light vigils are denied police permits? Do you see double standards out here? How the police work hand in hand with the Government, they need to know that the Rakyat's taxes pay their salaries.

How is it that we the people, cannot even walk or assemble to hand over memos?

To top it all, we are even labelled all sorts of extreme names and put the leaders in prison without trial, in an attempt to intimidate us into submission. Definitely a comatose population is easier to govern than a thinking, assertive and civil society!!

To the Indian community, you did it once on 25/11 at the Hindraf Assembly, the media and the world community were highlighted on the sorry plight of the Indians. This time, let us do this for all minorities, can we remain united and send out a clear message once again to the ruling establishment that we are seeking change and change in the realm of education, employment, religion and politics. That we no longer can be left behind nor can our appeals go unheeded. Brothers and Sisters, together we can make our voice be heard, it is up to you, to make the boycott a success.

However, this should not scare the majority, we are not seeking your share of the education funding, or your employment. If the country is administered in a rational and responsible manner, there will be enough for all races and all segments of society.

We the people need a Government that will care truly for its Rakyat, one that is clean, fair and accountable to its people. Hey we are tired of an administration that reeks of corruption, nepotism, cronyism, con, spin, wasteful spending and the self interest of politicians.

To ALL Malaysians, with elections round the corner, its time to make a stand, and if we elect the current administration, they we deserve all of the above, for this is what we got for putting them in power in the last elections. Putting it crudely do we have the balls, the guts and the gumption, to send out a loud message in one voice that we desire a responsible and accountable Government?

Fellow Malaysians lets make this boycott of Batu Caves a success, you can celebrate Thaipusam at Kuala Selangor Sri Subramaniyar Temple. There are more more places where we can celebrate Thaipusam... Penang Thannir Malai, Pandamaran Murugan Temple, Kuala Selangor Sri Subramaniyar Temple, Ipoh Murugan Cave temple, Ringlet Cameron Highlands Murugan Temple, JB, Mersing, Kulai etc. etc.

Shopping you can do at Klang or Masjid India, a small sacrifice to ensure that the next generation won't loose out like us. If you want to see them have a better future, will it not be worth a small sacrifice? Time has come for each of us to play our our part, we need to make a co-operatively united initiative to make our voices heard.

SAY YES TO THE BOYCOTT AT BATU CAVES AND SPREAD THIS MESSAGE TO THE PEOPLE IN THE KAMPUNGS, IN THE TOWNS.

BE UNITED FOR A BETTER MALAYSIA

I support the boycott and i propose to all Indians to go to some other temples to celebrate Thaipusam.Let Samy and his buddies know that Indians are no robots where Samy can control using his remote control.

Hindraf's sacrifice must be remembered and instead Indians and all Malaysian must rally behind Hindraf to ask for the release of the 5 leaders who are being held under ISA.

Yes this holiday thingy is just to get votes for this comimg elections. Dont be fooled by this please. Najib is saying that the Malays in Kampong Baru were sharpening their knives and were going for the Indian blood and because of this they had to use the ISA on the HINDRAF 5 - WHAT A LIE.

Fellow Malaysian INDIANS cannot be fooled by the racist UMNO and its running dog MIC.

Malaysian INDIANS must now boycott the Thaipusam celebrations at Batu Caves to sent a clear message loud and clear to the Ruling Administration and to the Temple Authorities that they can no longer be fooled and treated like dirt by the UMNO led BN government.

MURGAN is everywhere and he would understand why this measure is taken.

Let's hope this call reaches those devotees who use to go to Batu Caves for the Thaipusam. I was told 180 buses have been chartered to bring devotees to Penang for Thaipusam. Even if a total boycott may not be possible if there's a noticeable drop in devotees at Batu Caves it'll still be a slap in the face for those stooges

lets all go to our Masjids,Temples,Churches and all other houses of prayer, and perform a small prayer in solidarity to all Malaysians, This can be a sign of protest also to show the government that WE THE PEOPLE OF MALAYSIA MEAN BUSINESS, another thing they can't do anything about this. if the tamil community can pull this boycott off, this will be like a coming of age for the community.

don't get me wrong, some of my best friends are tamil hindus. i've great respect for them. but it has always been apparent to me the tamil's selfdeprecatory tendency. many need to pull themselves out of the plantation slaves mentality of listening only to the boss, and selling yourself short!

it has been 50 years. you deserve better! show them you are boss now!!

A way to reach the grassroot ppl is important to make it a success. Its these ppl who can make it a success.Use the net and sms to reach out to all Indians. It must be a concerted effort by all of us.If the indians can pull this one off.It will become pretty clear to BN.We mean business. Many a eyebrows will be raised.Ppl will take us seriously too.We must find a way to persuade and convience the weaker and undecided ones. Some are blissfully living in total ignorance of what is happening around them and need little persuasion, cooperation and understanding. We must send a strong message to all concerned..enough is enough...We are not insignificant nor inferior to any of our Malaysians ..we are indeed the kingmakers. We have the power through our votes to bring down states and even MPS.We must learn the skill of unity for our continued survival and success as Indians. We must stop being indivdualistic and care only for our own folks. This must change. The time is now or never.Dont miss the boat.It can be a long wait.

Hindraf has empowered the Indian community and exposed the thiefs, charlatans and crooks in the MIC and the BN. ithout Hindraf there is public holiday for Thaipusam, PM meeting Indian reps, external condemnation of the government and no more than one billion contract for India. All this is due to the Hindraf and the gathering on November 25. Indians, let us do one more thing. Let us boycott Batu Caves, if you go do not part with your money, if possible make some monkey faces at Nadrajah and Samy Vellu. Go to other temples, there are many. We should call for the reform of the temple committee not only in Batu Caves but everywhere. We must expose the charlatans and crooks who feed on people money. We must remain loyal to Hindraf leadership. They sacrificed for us. They fought for us. Let us do them a favour, Boycott Batu Caves. Let us remove Nadrajah and com. Let us get rid of Samy Vellu and his gang. Let us vote against BN inthe coming elections. Let us elect people who can fight for the community
Indians are no more cowards. We have been empowered. If we want, we can shake the governmennt.

All Malaysians, including Hindus, must boycot Batu Caves, as a show of defiance against the BN. They have taken us for a ride for 50 years, and now by giving the Hindus a holiday, they think all is forgiven.

Don't forget what AAB promised us 4 years ago, with his slogan of work with me, not for me. While you were working, he was sleeping, and his colleagues were milking the country dry ! Suddenly he realised it's election time. Now, he intends to go round the country, promising to work very hard if given another mandate !

Unless you are a pervert for punishment, go vote the BN, and suffer another 4 years !!

Hindus, should start the wheel of dissent turning, and drive a clear message that we will NOT be taken for another five years ride !! Soon the others will follow !

May Lord Murugan give you the courage !

As in the past, many non-Indians too will gather at Batu Caves to join / watch the celebration of Thaipusam. These non-Indians can play their part too by not going to Batu Caves on Thaipusam day or even any other day. At the same time, discourage foreign tourists too from visiting.

Truth is, extremism exist and it thrives in all religions here.

The dominant race will continue to dominate the political landscape ... and the dominant race/religion will squabble among themselves.

This "sudden" holiday kind of put a business meeting with an Indian biz partner in limbo. Whilst on the phone, he was still trying to commit to the meeting .. but I kinda sensed his "restlessness", so I said "let's play it by ear, if not we can do the meeting on Thursday. Why dont we do what we have to do during holidays ?"

As far as my life's experience in Malaysia is concerned, the different races have ALWAYS supported each other .. SOLIDARITY (even with our various differences) through thick and thin .. EXCEPT FOR ONE THING ..

Try justifying to the rakyat why any one race has to tolerate intolerance from another race ?

It is a fixation in the minds of most Indians of Tamil origin that Lord Muruga only resides in Batu Caves and that is the only place that gives solace to Man's griefs and problems. That God is Pure Consciousness and exists everywhere is difficult for most to comprehend. However, MIC is now attempting to USURP the efforts of HINDRAF and going one step further to use it as a tool thinking that the average citizen is a dimwit. But the problem does exist. You can buy a Tamil for RM20.00 and a free bus ride. Maybe even lesser if Toddy or Samsu are also handed out.

It is a singular tragedy that whilst the HINDRAF leaders languish under themost uncomfortable of positions with every form of comfort or facility denied to them, the crowd that went to the Cheras Stadium had no inkling or thought for those men in unlawful anarchic custody just for having attempted to hold peaceful rallies to project the problems faced by Tamils who probably are the decendants of Estate workers driven out of their natural habitats by fragmentation of Estates and the 'marginalisation' carried on by the Little Emperors and Josephines in the Civil Service, the Municipal Service, the Armed Sevices and the Schools. Tamils can be bought for a song. The Right Hon'ble Dato' Dr S Samy Velu knows the minds of the Tamils far better than anyone else.

What the Tamils did in Cheras will be repeated in the National Elections. Trust them and the Political parties that are relying on their support are going to see the wisdom of having trusted the loyalty of these citizens who claim 'marginalisation'. When Judas could disown Isa Ben Josef - why can the Tamils also not do that to those who are relying on their support - along with a smattering of other Indians keeping trail with them.

Maybe, how Batu Caves turns out may give a better indication on how things will be at the National Elections. The Indians should by now have learned that if they miss this opportunity that there is no way that they are going to find redemption till the "last syllable of recorded time". The people at BN are masters of the political game and the Tamils are but knaves. Something tells me that it is going to take a longer period of marginalisation and sufferings before they learn not to 'trust' the politicians. Maybe GOD in his infinite mercy may open their minds and show them the right path when the crunch comes.

Just heard it from the grapevine that a directive has been issued to all MIC members from all over, to be at Batu Caves. So it will be a repeat of bringing in people by buses to make up the numbers. So MIC can have their General Assembly over there, since the rest of the Indians have made the decision to stay away!!! smilies/wink.gif

Anyway, dont be too happy with this Thaipusam Public Holiday, we are not sure if it is only for this year.
What the minorities want is a fair percentage of us to be represented in Universities, fair share of the economic growth, ofcourse a fair representation in the Civil Services, welfare for our needy bretheren.
We are just asking what every citizen is entitled to receive in any modern democracy.

Don't see much point in boycotting. People need to fulfil their religious rites...and the rest are there to support them. Perhaps what could be done is to have concerned citizens showing their concern by flooding suggestion boxes with what they really think about the committee.

As of now, situation reports say that the crowd is approximately half of what it was last year. Of that about 20% seem to be bangladeshis and indians enjoying the holiday.

Saw the news on Al jazeera where they had a short video clip. Seems the crowd is extremely small compared to previous years where there were almost millions of people. Probably not even 100,000. The steps were not crowded and no people pushing, could see lots of empty spaces in between people on the steps of batu caves. In previous years you would not be able to see even an inch of empty space as the crowd was so huge, everyone would be pushing each other.

Seems the boycott is a success. As temenggong said, I believe at least 20% of the crowd were tourist and bangladeshis enjoying the holiday. Funny that the local news have yet to cover anything on thaipusam in batu caves. I guess they are ashamed. Well lets see, if the evening news covers it.

Was at BatuCaves today morning. No traffic jams, no drones of people. No fire crackers, no constant messaging of missing children, no vegetarian ice-cream stalls... no nothing.

For all intents and purposes, if Hindraf never existed, I would say, something was wrong with the turn out for Thaipusam.

Fact: Last year(s), it would be so packed, getting out from the train station would be a problem.
Fact: Thaipusam is more widely/colorfully celebrated here than in India- but not this year
Fact: I wouldnt be surprised if local news says that Thaipusam was a great success, while showing last years pictures.

Nearly 100 plus ppl i have asked directly on their opinion on the holiday says: Hindraf got it for us, not Samy Vellu.

I request Malaysia-today to start a poll on who the Malaysian public will acredit the holiday. MIC or "others".

Statistics speak volumes.
Thanks
